Hi all,

This board is specifically for the discussion of Dark Physics and Dark A.I. It should help keep all of the physics and AI related questions in one useful place, and will also be a useful spot for us to post code examples, demo programs, etc.

Off-topic threads will be moved out of here, as will non Dark Physics/AI related threads.

Cheers,

Rich

Perhaps Dark A.I. and Dark Physics ought to be in there own seperate boards?
I mean, apart from the first word in their names and the fact that they have been released at a similar time, there is nothing in-common about the two plugins.
Putting them both together like this is just begging for confusion. You know how easily confused people can get.

I thought that, but then I thought the two subjects covered are so utterly different, it should be impossible for someone to get confused as to which plugin the poster is talking about.

Besides, hopefully the Dark Physics exposure can rub off on Dark AI. There is a 3rd plugin I'll add to this board later on in the year.. more on that in the newsletter.

How easy would it be to do what you did in the Programming board - add a prefix to the title?

Just forum scanniing.

But does seem to me that dark AI, and Dark Physics should have seperate boards. And if not then all the plugins should be here.
(Ie Every plugin DLight for example, gets either its own board, or they should all go together)

(It still shocks me that FPSC gets 6 boards)

The thing with dark physics and AI board compared to the likes of FPSC boards, is Dark Physics and Dark AI will creep onto the other boards too, so it makes sense for these plugins to have a single shared board, these 2 plugins will be used in a mass of code, code that will appear in the snippits board and the 20 liners etc. Dark Physics is going to be everywhere anf the stuff that will be made with it will be radically different to the majority of stuff you have already seen done with DBP, its a whole new area of interaction and ideas. This is going to be a very exiting place indeed.

We could do without the pointless posts like.

"this is new." , I mean whats the point of that, let's have discussion, not state the obvious. (j/k)

cheers, Grant.

Yes it will! As you say, Dark Physics will open a whole new area for DarkBasic Pro.

I think we're gonna see a lot of exciting projects with it!

It is cool. I've only implemented the bare minimum in my game so far, and already my zombies inadvertently smashed a door off its hinges while chasing me about my level.

Just the sort of thing I hoped to see with DP .

You know what though, I'm guessing a few gamers would assume that's a bug . I'm guessing your project is quite free-roaming, so if for example, a door became barricaded by accident, leaving the player no way inside, it would not be the end of the world. That's the approach I'm thinking will work best, important rooms get a few ways in or out, but there's little chance of being trapped inside a room. The tense bits in these games are when your stuck, maybe barricaded in a room with zombies trying to get at you - there's a few bits in RE4 like that, personally I tend to barricade the windows then look for a flight of stairs to stand atop, works great until the zombies find several sets of ladders and start smashing through the upstairs windows too .

Took me maybe 20 tries just to beat that part.
