Newcomers DBPro Corner / snowboardin game help

i am using db pro and have put together this very simple snowboarding game.


but i need suggestions or help on adding features to it. maybe a snowboardin dude, or down hill, or ramps. and maybe help on adding levels.

Not bad, I like the particles I actually learned something from that-- thanks!

Anyway it'd be cool if you had a path that the snowboarder could follow of some sort. You made a post on how to change the color of cliffs before. I made a post there explaining how to do that if you didn't already know how.

Furthermore, there should be some kind of restart option if you fall in the hole, because you can't get out

Anyway, keep adding to this!

Okay then! I had help in this topic here:

Changing color of cliffs

As for making the box a snowboard, you will need a snowboard model. Models are external pieces of media that can be imported into your games. Usually they are if the ".x" or ".dbo" format. Anyway, to make the box a snowboard simply get a snowboard model, save it in the same folder as your code, and use "LOAD OBJECT" to get it! Say your snowboard is called "snowboard.x". Well, to load it you'd write this:

LOAD OBJECT "Snowboard.x",1

(This assumes that you want it to be object 1) Write LOAD OBJECT and press F1 on it in the editor for more help.

There's a post on the 3d chat board which has a list of 3d modelers. Some are free, such as blender. That is what I used to make this simple model if you want to use it for now.

I suggest Anim8or. Its free, and works great.

But if you wanna spend money on an amazing 3D Modeller, get Milkshape 3D. It won't let you down.

Well, a FPS snowboard you probably wouldn't see much, its more of a 3rd person.

Waaay back in the day, long before DBP, there was a snow/christmas/whatever competition. A few ppl made some nice snow boarding games. I might still have my code laying around somewhere. Mine only did simple things, like sliding down hills and whatnot.

set matrix 1,0,0,1,2,1,1,1
The 1st 0 in that represents the wireframe flag. Setting it to 0 will turn off wireframe.
Alternatively load in a texture for the matrix. Once textured it will automatically change to non-wireframe mode.

No probs.

@RUCCUS - Unless he has just copied that code then it would seem that he has at least a slight idea of what he is doing. I know it took me a while to get started. I spent ages making really simple FPSs. I never learned through tuts; I learned through trying and failing and asking for help or input as to where I went wrong. I'm not saying he shouldn't look at the tuts I'm just saying don't be too harsh.

thats ok teh_coderer because ruccus has a good point. its just some people learn differently than others and i learn better by trial and error. i like to find people's codes in the code bases and change things around to see what they do. and i have read your fps tutorial ruccus, it is excellent. i would just like to see it finnished.

Here's a punk model riding a snow board, sliding down hills. There's also a neat effect of a fading trail that follows behind the board. Study the code all you want, just make sure you understand it before trying to use it.
