I apolagise in advance, but this thread is for the good of the forums. In my previous thread, the title was incorrect (Mis-spelt Flashlight), meaning anyone searching for a thread with the word "Flashlight" in, might struggle to find my thread.

Click Here for the old thread.

Thanks for understanding (If you do ), and thanks to Fred for sorting this out.

Yours,
Dan.

nice contribution man. Though I think that the old thread was good enough. since most people here will have a hard time spelling flashlight correctly in the first place.

Really good torch dude! Just one mini nag, it looks like the torch is stuck to his opened out hand. Can you fix that please? Ta.

EDIT - Here's an entity for it.

Yea its looks good in the pic but for some reason it wont work for me either. I cant make it a starting weapon and when I try putting it in the map editor as a seperate entity it comes out big and grey...Then if i try testing it i get an error. any ideas? I think this is really good and i really want to use it, i just have that one problem.

Some pretty good ideas coming out. I quite fancy trying the binocs, despite them already being done. I think i'll do that today, and I'll keep you all posted.

It's a good idea, but there isn't much use for it, dont you think? It would just be animations... There would be no actual function for it, if you understand.

Haha that looks awesome
I have a little tip, though;
Open up that crosshair in your picture editor, and place an actual crosshair in the middle of the image. This means you will have the flashlight, and a crosshair itself.

A bit of work from me again;

Honest opinion required;
Would you people be willing to pay around $10 for a middle eastern themed pack, with buildings like above, entities you might find around the street, perhaps a few weapons/tools.

I am wanting an honest reply from people, as I dont want to waste my time making them, and no-one being interested
Be as ruthless as you want!

Yours,
Dan

Can you make people, Smitho? if so, could you make some cyborgs, they'd be useful!
If not, (this is a weapon idea) do an EMP22 - a gun I made up. Look at the screeny!

@Mr Love Its just a weapon, and the crosshair is just a decal, to make it look like the beam.
Its great to see you around here again - Not seen you in a while...
Also, I would love to see what you get done with the new texture

@Phlum No. Never made a character, and I want to make a realistic gun. That gun isnt very useable - Look at the size of the handle
Edit;
@Seth Black Thanks for that, buddy - Looking really cool

I think no-ones after the middle eastern themed pack, so I'll release the villa...

I know everybody that has downloaded the flashlight has asked themselves...

"Wouldn't this be great if there was a pickup for it?"

So now I figured I would tell everybody the quick and easy way to make a pickup for the flashlight.

Now I am sure you know there is a torch pickup in the scifi\items folder in your entitybank...there is also one in your WWII\items folder.

Either one will work.

Copy the .fpe file for the torch and paste it back into the folder.
Rename it whatever you want.
Chnage the aimain line in the .fpe to this:

aimain = weapon.fpi

Since I know you all downloaded Smitho's test weapons and you place the torch weapon files in the smithos folder in your gamecore\guns folder then you just add these lines at the bottom of the .fpe file you still have open:

isweapon = smithos\Torch
quantity = 1
speed = 100

Then save and close your .fpe file.
Now when you pick the torch entity (it will be the one your renamed not the original if you followed my instructions) and place it in your level when you pick it up you will have Smitho's flashlight.
Make sure if you put the Torch folders elsewhere in the gamecore folder that you specify the proper path.
Hope you all like it.

For some reason I can't turn of the fog, so I'm unable to post a good screenshot..
It does fairly good, though (As long as you place the shaders in the right places). If theyre just plonked around it, there isnt much of an effect

Edit; Thanks fred - it sounds pretty solid! Im just about to try it out

Well... as if there was any doubt - It worked prefectly...
Just a point to anyone who doesnt understand the concept of this.

When you make a copy of the Torch's .fpe, it will reappear as Copy of torch.fpe - When youve saved all the edits in Copy of torch, rename the original torch.fpe something like oldtorch.fpe.
Then rename Copy of torch.fpe into torch.fpe.

Fairly simple if you read carefully enough - It does work!

hey, smitho. I know your really sick of ppl doing this, but i was wondering if it would be possible for you to make the light from the flashlight a little more transparent, to see through it more. really srry for asking but i tried using it and can barely see thru the light. but so far its the best ive seen.

i married acow,

Greetings. Remember that this is just an illusion.
You are looking at a displayed HUD image, not actually through a lightbeam.

Transparency of the beam is more pronounced against darker backgrounds, and almost nonexistent against a very light background. Both are realtive to each other.

Smitho's reached a pretty happy medium with his offering.

Transparency can be increased, but the illusion will probably lose its effect. Over a black background, it'll look more like a dying flashlight, and over a white background...well...you probably won't even be able to see the illusion at all.

I'm assuming that you don't have Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, or Gimp skills. Tell you what, I'll whip up a more transparent version of the beam, and share it here.

If the current level of opacity is considered 100%, what percentage would you like me to reduce it to?

Thanks,

Seth Black

This would mean that you'd like the beam to be even less transparent than it is now. Opacity is the opposite of transparency.

Pick one: 1. 80%, 2. 70%, or 3. 60% opacity.

Pick one: 1. I want the red crosshair , or 2. I don't want the red crosshair version

Thanks,

Seth Black

i married acow,

Greetings. Please find the attached 70% Crosshair.zip file. It contains both a plain 70% beam, and the version with the red crosshair, for those that might want the option.

Thanks,

i married acow,

Greetings. It sounds like you don't have a crosshair image available in your folder. Make sure that you rename the file you downloaded above to crosshair.dds, and place it into the gun folder that you wish to apply the effect to.

If this doesn't remedy your problem, I am sorry to inform you that I have no further suggestions that I can offer you. I've tested the download, and the images are indeed 512 x 512 24 bit.

I did mention that if the transparency was increased that the effect would begin to be lost. Perhaps this is what you're experiencing? I have not used the 70% crosshair, so I can't be sure how drastically the appearance may have changed ingame.

Should any other issues still exist regarding this topic, you will need to experiment on your own to find the answers that you seek. I won't provide additional help.

Good luck to you, in your endeavors.

Thanks,

Seth Black
