FPSC Classic Product Chat / [LOCKED] Entity Workshop ( Work in Progress )

I'm never the type to start a Work-in-Progress thread, and I have delayed the urge to make one until I got my current project working, but I couldn't contain myself any longer

Introducing...

The Entity Workshop is a program which provides the ability to produce custom static entities and to export them into FPSC.

Though the program has simple editing tools it enables the rescaling and texturing of imported model templates.

Here is a demo below.

Step 1 - I import one of the prefab entities into the workshop:

Step 2 - Using the edit tools, I increase the models height and Decrease its thickness along the X axis:

Step 3 - I apply a wooden texture to the model:

Step 4 - I Export the model to FPSC:

I still have a lot of work to do, the idea of this tool is to provide a simple custom entity platform for people who either can't afford, or do not have experience in 3D modeling applications.

So far i need to work on the GUI and start creating a nice library of entity templates and textures - the bottom line here is that, currently, it does what it says on the tin

Very nice. I'm assuming you will be making a wall, half wall, floor, etc model besides the basic shapes?

Nice work.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

Wow.. looks sweet!
If I had no idea how to make entites/position correctly, this would be great. I think this would be a great addition!

Use Delgine, it has a free version and can manage the .x format.

@fallen one
the advantage of this is that it exports straight to fpsc stopping the "how do i import" threads.

Hi folks, Ill answer all your questions....

Quote: "Look nice! This could be useful. Made in DBPro?"

Thank you, yes it is made in DBPro.

Quote: "I'm assuming you will be making a wall, half wall, floor, etc model besides the basic shapes?"

My aim is to create a library set of primitives and templates, so hopefully there should be plenty of items to play with upon install.

Quote: "looks like Magic FPS ?"

They certainly have a similar approach to 3D, but MagicFPS caters for both segments and entities. Workshop only caters for entities but has some editing abilities.

Quote: "price?"

This program will be free.

Quote: "looks good! and i havent seen you around here in quite a while, hows things going? anyway, sweet prog!!"

Thanks! Yeah I'm good, cheers

Quote: "does it UV map or not?"

No UV map feature I'm afraid, however that could be an area to explore if the program becomes popular.

This looks really good. Great contribution and I am sure it will be very popular. I think this is a good program for advanced and beginners. It cna make creating entities much faster.

It could have check boxes for the entities propities so one can do lots of entities at quick speed.

why not make it to be able to do segments as well, two in one, that would be super.

Hell do weaons as well, youd be the king of content tools

Hi folks

New Feature! - Snapshot
Not much of a feature I know, but by clicking the camera icon, Entity Workshop automatically saves a jpeg of your screen and current project into the Workshop program folder. Ready for you to to slap on the web and show your buddies.

Quote: "free= even better. By crowded interface i meant that the x and y buttons have two buttons each but it still looks nice. Import mesh feature?"

Accessing the Entity library is done through a standard windows dialog box so yes, you can use your own .X files. However, im predicting there may be certain issues with scale when it comes to user imported X files. I have to do some experimentation but hopefully I'll get any problems ironed out.

Quote: "why not make it to be able to do segments as well, two in one, that would be super"

Well, I have a freebie segment tool floating around the forum somewhere, my mission statement for this program was to concentrate on easy entity editing and exporting. Too many features spoils the broth

---

Currently I'm working on the entity template library, created a mixture of common shapes and primitives for you to distort, I'm aiming for 20 with the possibility of future entity template packs.

GREAT!! Now people can stop bugging me that I have to make custom media for Failure to Cooperate! Can we apply multiple textures to an entity? And will you be providing some textures for us, i.e. metal, wood, plastic, etc?

This is Mad-Man. Copy Mad-Man into your sig so he can rule the FPSC boards. How to do it? }+:+)+the message after the smiley=domination!

No multi texture support I'm afraid, but there certainly will be a range of seamless 512 x 512 textures for you to play with.

Quote: "EDIT: bored so decided to make you a logo attached"

Nice! Thanks for that, it'll make great desktop wallpaper

This week I'm concentrating on the library of entity templates and textures. This is where you folk come in. List me your favorite generic textures and shapes. For example, good textures would be brick work, wooden panels, metal etc. Good shapes would be pipes, railings, walls etc. I cant promise to put them all in, but it'll give me some direction to move in.

I have 3 more functions to add before i see a release, but 2 of these functions shouldn't take too long. Hopefully I'll have some more pics to show in the next few days

The latest edition is the Arch template:

As you can see, some textures work better on different objects, that's where the joy of experimentation comes in

Thanks for your ideas, ill be sure to consider as many as i can.

New Feature! - UV Scale

The UV scale tool set comprises of 2 buttons, Divide by 2 and Multiply by 2. These controls allow you to scale your objects texture as you see fit. You can keep pressing the button to perform the calculation repetitively.

The results can be exported to FPSC by the click of a button.
