Now, do something female. We need to see the true power of X10's babe-rendering techniques!

They are keen on that one too, so hopefully yes

Ive pushed my future custom take on a G36C back too long, which will be free eventually, which i think is gonna turn out awesome

Quote: "Now, do something female. We need to see the true power of X10's babe-rendering techniques!"

how do you know that alien isn't female?

...

i like to think of it as 'in between'

Anyway back to business, i was having some problems testing my models in X10 for the past week or so until just earlier today i found out it was a mistake of mine (eek) but anyway, its working fine for me now so i thought a video is in order!

unfortunately no alien as of yet, i want to finish the other variations

I thought while I'm at it i may as well go and make a You-Tube account (i could use it to host some short video tutorials as well when i get off my arse )

so here's a link to a video of a juggernaut onslaught

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMkzzD-xq9c

nothing too impressive but nifty none the less (you get a glance of the changed strafe animation that's about it.

that shows the second variation, i forgot to set random on

Hm, you've got a good point there.. It's not the type I'd get cuddly with anyhow, so it doesn't matter, lol.

Btw, the new vid looks awesome. I really like it.

Transparency is back in the engine now so i can show some other variations.

Ive scaled down and cropped the images for quicker loading but made up for the downsize blur with a sharpen filter, besides from the white outlines it looks pretty awesome!

Ive shown this one before, but i just thought the lighting and bloom on the very left side of the character looks brilliant

This ones kind of like a rebel/terrorist, or an 'Elite'

I think it turned out pretty darn cool.

Kind of a 'standard' soldier, I'm seriously thinking about removing all the lights to make him shine less I'll post an update if/when i do.

There's one more but i forgot to take a screenshot, might show him soon, but to take his place, are a bunch of dead juggernauts

(you can actually see a fraction of the last variation, the blue one)

and just another screenshot i like:

They're the same model, but the shoulder pads and cloth have been alpha mapped for those variations to give them a slightly different form, which is pretty cool.

Lookin' good, Jon. I don't think I could yell at someone for making a game out of stock media, if this is in there. Fantastic work.

You know what? I might start working on a scifi game right now, shaders and all, just so I can have this guy fighting that alien. lol

When you said they where the same model i thought huh?!?

Because of the shoulder pads, but then you said that they
where alpha mapped great idea and its looking great!

But in my opinion i think the soldier has to many lights.
But still its great to see what you can make of just one model.

Cant wait to see the blue version what you where talking about.

I hope you say a cheap one and not the 8800!

that was probably just because of the screen capture lag at the time,

they tend to move around a lot and i was hitting F11 every 1 or 2 seconds

also there was loads in the room at the time, not just 2 (although that doesn't really affect the frame rate too much)

EDIT:

oh your talking about the first shots, that was several Beta's ago, it has sped up ALOT

i decided to try something "new" and although this isn't FPSC X10, i found it pretty cool

i got the alien into the Doom 3 engine

without a doubt, it appears to downsize or compress the textures, but pretty neat, i had to tone down the specular map quite a load (still sucks).

though i am glad i managed to do that (wasn't hard, just annoying to look up) as now i can begin to test things in commercial engines, for more convincing shots and shows of the model, though D3 is a tad outdated, so its oblivion next!

that right, get ready to see this alien dude running around the imperial city blasting beggars

end of spam.

i have some 'personal errands to attend to' this week but later then i shall have all of the alien texture variations to show.

edit:

couldn't resist:

now it really is spam

sweet, a screen grab of jugg and that alien were in the august newsletter shame they weren't later ones, still cool though.

some more, nothing new, just different angles and 'scenarios'

more explosions, this time with jugg:

more subtle light from explosion:

Nice shots, Jon, as always. Is it possible to edit the explosions live as well? I find them to be a tad bit saturated for my taste in some cases. But I like the more discrete lighting on the last shot. Great models, Jon, I can't wait to see more.

Btw, what's that segment in the back on the last shot? Is it something you added or is it stock media. I can't remember if I've seen it before..

thanks,

I've looked into changing the explosion, i too think its a bit too saturated, if its in the form of a decal, you should be able to edit it but i haven't found it yet, if its in the code it should just be a selection of hue, in which any case, i think it shouldn't be hard to make this an option/adjustment from within the program/real time.

I'll ask lee about that, as i wouldn't mind trying out some stuff for different explosions, such as blue plasma grenades etc.

i know this has nothing to do with x10, or even anything close to it, considering its specifications, but Ive recently been inspired to start on some really LOW poly characters similar to the World of Warcraft universe, at around 300 triangles and a 512 texture, here's work in progress on a funny goblin:

fully painted.

i love the goblins in WoW, they have to be the coolest game characters Ive seen in a while. The good thing about this model is its pushing me to really put the work on the texture, as the lack of triangles wont make up the full physical shape, which has always been the amazing advantage of WoW art.

i will be releasing that model for free when finished as an "SDK" so people can practice texturing on it.

thanks,

variation 2 of the alien, i don't think I've mentioned, which seems weird but i have decided to name it 'Raknos' (don't know why, has a kick to it)

currently downloading newer beta, so I'm showing a max screen grab temporarily.

looks like that one might just have to be the 'elite', black armour = pwnage

there's a chance i may scrap that other variation i showed earlier as im not too pleased with it, whereas this takes its place.

Nice looking screenies.

And great version of the alien!

Now he is looking alot more evil then the other 2.
Not that i am saying that the others arent any good.
Because they all are good, but this one looks dangerous.

But really the normal maps on them is just amazing.
And its also amazing that x10 will include this.

It opens a whole lot of possibilities.
And increases the level design.

---EDIT---

Also nice model of a goblin!
Very low poly and great texture.
When i saw it, it remembered me of something (the style)
And then i readed the post, and saw that you where going for a low
poly World of Warcraft kind of style.
It is looking great.

no not the first one, that other black one with black/white armour (first picture page 3)

i still like the original loads

starting to think whether i could do some camo patterns, but that might just look stupid on an alien...

shame there's nothing to alpha map though, like the juggernaut, thats what made those variations so unique

the look around was part of the cautious script in the X9 version, not actually part of the animation, rather forced on by the program, so even in x9 this is entirely optional. But yes i have made a custom idle stance (with no weapon) nothing really special or really long though (best to keep is short and less memory consuming)

yes, it is quite sad that i don't think much is going to be done to that section, Ive already got a workload on my back that is quite enough for the moment, i think after this alien and an 'unannounced' model i might call it over for x10 and get back to personal work and the fantasy model pack.

3rd variation:

im not completely sure of it, i know as much as anyone else does, there might be some work going on in that area by another artist, but like everyone appears to be thinking, it does look unlikely.
