EDIT: 24th January; Update! Check page 3!

Hey people of FPSC. After keeping myself for too long, I finally gave in and decided to announce my upcoming model pack.

The model pack will feature various segments and entities, most of a grungy nature. There is no specified "timeline-theme", but the objects fit in with most projects between modern day and cyberpunk settings or similar. I've not yet decided a price for it, as I have only come around a fourth way with all the stuff I want to get done for this.

The model pack is set for release sometime around fall this year, no promises made though, since I am working as a one man army of modelling and texturing on this, and a lot of summer parties might get in the way, ahem..

Here's some screenshots of a few new segments, more to come soon:

(These screens do not demonstrate any of the ceilings or entities that I have made so far in the pack, screenshots of them coming soon. BTW, those are not texture seams, but seams in the lighting, I only used quick light mapping for the screens.)

One last note, I want to let you all know that I'll still be making free community stuff every now and then as I used to, so all those short on money won't need to worry about not getting ahold of a few of my pieces. Why anyone would worry about that I don't know though, lol.

Anyhow, I'm taking requests both for stuff that fits the theme of this pack, and for free community stuff. Remember, for requesting community stuff; no organic objects, no animated stuff and things that many might have use for, not only you. Any good suggestions that end up in the model pack I'll give credit for, in the 'sources of inspiration' section.

That's all for now, keep on developing everyone.

I'm not sure yet, but if I manage to get together as much stuff as I have in mind, perhaps 12 dollars wouldn't be too shabby, I hope?
Any realistic and serious price suggestions are welcome. The money'll be used for good purposes too, so I'm not doing this mp just for funny-money, I'm moving away this fall and need some extra funds.

@Roger Wilco Nice looking set so far, I realy like the 3rd image. Nice use of combining the glossy surface to a grungy surface; its not as easy as some people might think to get the two to blend so well . Looking forward to seeing more WIP.

@AlanC: Thanks dude.

@Saint: Thanks man. I feel like I've accomplished something sucessful for once.

Thanks for the encouraging comments. Now, a little insight on what's in the pack so far:
6 room segments (one added today)
4 ceiling segments
9 completly custom entities

I plan on making at least 15 segments along with 20 or more entities. If I have any time left over in the end, I might make some environmental entities as well, such as buildings to put outside of the play area and stuff like that.
Here's another screenshots that shows off some the entities along with the most recent segment I made:

Enjoy.
Oh, btw, the transparency issue with the ceiling light has been fixed.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

As for your question, Leaning (or whatever to call you ), I've not yet set any date for release. At the rate I'm going now, it'll probably be done within two months, maybe earlier, maybe later. Time will tell, and I'm not making any promises, because set release dates tend to be a pain in the rear because I never finish things up in time then.

Nice to hear that you're interested in the pack.

Today's update; I've made a new room segment and a ceiling segment, and am currently mapping a little environmental/decorational object as I gathered inspiration on a road-trip yesterday. I've finally bought an amplifier for my guitar, so progress has not been major today. But I'll try my best to keep myself from strumming too much, so that I can get this released soon.

Phew, got another two wall textures done now. Just gotta get some ideas for what kind of floors would possibly make good company with them... Well, I've had it with this computer for the day, so I'll have to do it tomorrow. That means there should be another two or three segments done tomorrow, so I might showcase some more eye-candy for you guys then.

I know you guys love screenshots, because pictures do speak more than words, so here's one of the latest segments, with semi-cheap lightmapping again.

Any advice, comments, requests and/or criticism is always welcome.

Thanks, Drew.

I've got a few more screenshots to show off recent segment working. The pack is progressing steadily and all looks well so far, imo. You can judge for yourselves.

Another interior segment. The wall was entirely improvised, and then an idea came to, and thus, the basement was born. This also shows off the new concrete ceiling, which I'm quite satisfied with. You can't see it very well on this screenshot, though.

This is one of the exterior segments. So far I've made 2. I came up with the idea of making seperate exteriors, both to save polys for indoor only areas and to get more variation, as you can use any exterior with any interior.

Another screenshot coming up soon, until then; any advice, comments, requests and/or criticism is always welcome.

But It still looks amazing, good job.

@Duplex: It's just a normal wall, although I do wish I could get custom meshes working for segments. Then I'd showcase a different degree of depth fo' sure.

It's okay, thanks anyhow. I know how to put them in but I've had major trouble getting them to work for reasons I can't figure out. It's been killing me with the door I tried to add in.
I'm gonna try once more to re-export the meshes, this time through Wings. If it doesn't work, I'll get in touch with you, Duplex.

Great news, everyone. Well, for me and my to-be-customers at least.
I've got custom segment meshes working. The problem was actually in Milkshape, the static meshes didn't export properly with the JT-exporter, I might've done something wrong. Anyhow, I re-exported them with Wings3D and they worked! Now I can finally get to making doors and windows and stuff. And less flat walls.
Btw, Duplex, I've "unlineared" the brick wall like you said, looks much better now. Thanks for the advice.

I'll have some screenshots up before thursday of the most recent segments, maybe even som custom meshed segments, that's a promise. On thursday me and two of my siblings (and their respectives, so to say) are going to Stockholm to see The Who. My first ever concert, yay.
So I won't be back until around Sunday again to work on this properly. I'll make sure to work my arse off these last few days, though.

Anyhow, updates since last time:
Two new room segments and one nearly fully functioning door. Just gotta adjust some settings in the fpe and then I can show it off too.

Until next time; any advice, comments, requests/suggestions and/or criticism is always welcome.

Thanks Luke, I've got some cool ideas going about in my head, just have to realise them.

Anyhow, so far I've only come up with some minor new elements for custom seg-meshes. I've made a flat corner piece (instead of the usual curved ones) for use in areas where the curved corner doesn't fit. I've also made tilted floor/ceiling pieces for nearly all floor and ceiling textures that I've got so far. Here's a demo shot of some of the new stuff;

And one more, but that's all for this time, going on a trip and won't be back until around sunday. A demo shot of some other new stuff, a seamless 1x1 terrain segment (enemy collision works!), tilted ceiling (basically the same as tilted floor) and a new, industrialish door.

I have some issues with making the terrain the right size, but it's nearly perfect now. I will probably have about 3 variations of the terrain seg for use, along with variations that include the external walls (bricks, wood boards etc.)

Anyhow, that's all for now, as always, comments, criticism, requests/suggestions and/or advice is greatly appreciated, as it will help me improve the pack for maximum quality.

If you have any ideas regarding custom segment meshes, feel free to inspire me.

Hehe, thanks again dude. But you could've used the edit-button.

Anyhow, I plan to release this around this fall. Perhaps sometime between September-October. It all depends on how intense my rate of inspiration is, lol.

Anyhow, I'm doing this pack because I enjoy it, there's nothing better than running a test-game and satisfyingly study one's work of the day, especially if all works as it should.
As for the price range, I'm considering something between 12-15 bucks, if I get all planned stuff in. I'm mainly charging for this because I need a bit of spare money now that I'm going to live on my own soon and go to school quite a distance away from my safe home down here for three years.

Anyhow, now for a little update. I've edited the wall-mesh for the nuclear isolation segment (see screenshot above), so now it has a bit more depth and doesn't look nearly as flat as before. I was thinking about making something similar to Doom 3, with stone tiles surrounded by lava, walls with pentagrams and stuff. But perhaps I should make that for another, smaller freebie pack? It has been a while since I posted a freebie, and I feel a little bad about it, lol.

Oh, and as always, feedback of all types and suggestions are very well appreciated.

Lol
Well, I'm usually under heavy influence of Nirvana and/or Alice in Chains while working on this. Sets the mood well, I might say.

Thanks. And yeah, I'm starting to have second thoughts about the curved walls. But I think I'll include them for the heck of it, if anyone finds use for them. They fit in fairly well with some segments, but I'll include diagonal walls/flat corners for most segments anyhow, so the choice is yours.

Heh, thanks dude.

So, a little update, I'm gonna upload some screens of the most recent content in a bit, then I'll go to bed. Was up very late last night, had me lose motivation some for my other project, luckily not for this though.

Anyhow, I've been expanding the pack a little bit every day, since last time I think I have around 3 new segs, a new ceiling, and two new entities. I've made a huge toxic waste container to be used for environmental purposes like the industrial tank pictured above. I'll include one version without waste/fluid and one with, and an animated decal to place at the top to simulate toxic steam coming from it. I imagine if one places it a bit below the player with the green steam coming from it, it'll look pretty cool. I think I'll include two steam-variants, one viewn from atop and one from below the entity. I also made a laundry basket. Fun to throw around.

So, right now, there is:
14 segments, all with accompanying corner pieces of either curved variant or flat variant, depending on the segments mood
14 floors (obviously ;P) and 7 ceilings, all with accompanying sloped/tilted mesh variants
2 industrial/cyber/sci-fi doors, one which doesn't work that great yet
Bumpy grass terrain, for use in outside environments
2 external segments, with variants to include the more hi-poly bumpy grass
14 entities, of which 2 are for decorational/environmental purposes

Also, I'd like to know, if you were to purchase this pack for say 15$, would you feel tricked if there were simple color variants included? I thought about doing this to extend the pack a bit, so that the textures can be used for different moods sort of. I'll of course make more segments than the 14 ones I have now too. But I dunno if it's worthwhile with the color variations, so I'd like your opinion on this idea, thanks in advance.

Allright... Seems to be little interest in helping me make this as much fit for the community as possible, so I guess I'll just go by routine then and keep on making stuff that I Think people would need.

Here's the most recent segment, with custom mesh. The screenshots doesn't show off the illumination map, though. I can't get the shaders to work properly on this computer.

Here's the same segment close up, so that you can see the custom mesh. All works well without lightmap-seams now that I got the materials smoothing corrected, now I just gotta fix the texture seams on the floor and ceiling pieces.

Here's a shot of the second most recent segment. A combination of industrial/grunge nature, with a yellowish light to set the mood right for the screenshot.

And here's renders of the two most recent entities. Bear in mind that the container looks blurred because I rendered it close up, the entity is supposed to be used at distance for best effect.

Any comments are welcome, as long as they're somewhat on-topic and not violating the rules. I'd greatly appreciate if you could air your opinion on the matter in my previous post too.

Not to bad. The texture composition don't look to bad. Perhaps desaturating the colors a little. Many of the textures though seem a little mis proportioned. Tiles in some cases seem a little large. Sizes one would never see in real life, and therefore something game players will pick up on. As an example, in some textures there are 5 tiles per segment before they repeat. This would make the tiles 20 inches². Though this and bigger tiles are available in the real world a 20 inch tile is usually imported Italian marble(something expensive anyways and not very common). The grate texture you have has the knurling of the "diamond plating" is like over 10 inches long(as they are on a diagonal and 10 per segment which is 8'4" or 100")the biggest diamond plating I've ever seen in a commercial setting was like and inch or two long and ½ to one inch wide.

I'm certainly not downing your work, and I wish you the best of luck. I've said this a few times before to older members so I'm certainly not trying to pick you out for a 'downing'. I just know that when people see textures in a game, they will know theres something wrong even if they don't know why they think something is wrong. Proportion and the muscle memory of the brain will pick out these discrepancies from a mile away. I only say this to help you.

Best to you,
Loc
