I experienced that when deleting a sprite a while ago.
I haven´t used sprites in dbc since then.

I'd recomend using DarkEdit as your editor. It's way easier to use, and when DBC unexpectedly quits, it doesn't close, so it's easier to find the error. I usually get that kind of thing when my syntax is off somewhere obscure and DBC doesn't catch it, or I have a line over 255 and somehow DBC misses it. zzz could be right though; I've just never used sprites.

I think it's about time for a new demo!
Most of everything works fine, but there are a few glitches:

When Mr. Bear gets a caffiene rush, his arms start moving up and down and don't stop for the rest of the game. His legs become slightly offset, too.

When you reach the second mini-game sphere, it simply goes to Nutt's level. There is no finish to Nutt's level; also, it's very early on in development.

I still haven't done the "midair fight" and "timing is everything" minigames.

If you play minigames before playing the full game and you're saved on the second Mr. Bear level, Mr. Bear mysteriously falls through the floor. I know how to fix this, I just keep forgetting.

I need a "locked" image. Mine is currently made out of squares and circles.

I think that's it. If anyone finds any other errors, could you tell me about them?

Enjoy!

I cant get past bear meadow, I also had to keep saving and replaying the level to get enough coins to buy the snow gear, which I never got to use. Still fun, by the way, are you using dbc 1.2 yet?

Your about to get pwned.

Not yet. If you walk toward the camera, you get to the snowy place. After that is the Nooblands. There's no spheres there yet, but there will be.

Man, I can´t clear the "tap spacebar to run"-minigame, if I tap too fast he just stops.
I noticed the inverted mr. bear floating in the air(0,0,0? ) in the intro of the game.
You should also add some sort of outlines to the platforms, especially those in the first nutt level.

Great job, keep it up!

I kinda like the Mr Bear black outline, but the ambient lighting for everything else makes it look odd

The outline is messed up at some parts. Maybe it's just me. For example, when I first start the story mode, theres a black version of Mr. Bear up in the air. Also when he's moving his arms up and down the outline stays.

Try tapping slower.

Quote: "I noticed the inverted mr. bear floating in the air(0,0,0? ) in the intro of the game."

Oops, I meant to fix that. I don't know why he's there, because the place where Mr. Bear starts is 0,5.5,0.

Ok.

Does it "teleport" you to one of the sides? Or can you just not find the bridge?

I hate Vista
Does anyone know if there is a way to make executables compiled with DBC work with Vista? Does the new upgrade fix this?

Yes, the new upgrade fixes it. To make it compatible, use d3drm.dll. Finally, it works perfectly for me on Vista Home Premium and Vista Ultimate.

I think the upgrade covers that, don't you have to manually make all the objects sensative to ambient light or something?

Quote: "The outline is messed up at some parts."

I thought I fixed that! Bah, it used to be worse. I'll keep working on it.

Okay, I finally got past the minigame, but when I entered the new level mr. bear started under the ground and I just kept falling. I restarted the game and loaded my save file and then it worked.

I then was told I could use the gun, but when I went into sniper mode the screen became black and if I moved my cursor the screen started to flicker.

I explored for a while and found a new minigame, where I was supposed to find a button. I explored the whole level but I couldn´t find anything that looked like a button. So I loaded my saved game, but instead I had to start all over from the very first level and some objects from the minigame were still there(see attached screenshot).

Except for the bugs I think this game is really good, I hope you´re planning to have a background instead of the default blue colour?

Wow. That's a lot of bugs.

I've fixed the error with loading the Nutt level.

Quote: "I then was told I could use the gun, but when I went into sniper mode the screen became black and if I moved my cursor the screen started to flicker."

I've never had that error before... Could you try it again and take a screenshot?

Quote: "I explored for a while and found a new minigame, where I was supposed to find a button. I explored the whole level but I couldn´t find anything that looked like a button."

I addressed that in my "has a lot of glitches" speech. I'm going to change it.

Quote: "So I loaded my saved game, but instead I had to start all over from the very first level and some objects from the minigame were still there(see attached screenshot)."

Heh, I forgot how high my object count went. I'll fix that.

Quote: "Okay, I finally got past the minigame, but when I entered the new level mr. bear started under the ground and I just kept falling. I restarted the game and loaded my save file and then it worked."

I'm going to fix it, I just need to make the floor thicker.

Update!

I've been working on the Nutt level, and now there are several new features. There is a "shadow nutt" who isn't really explained as of right now, but he charges at Nutt and sends him flying. Nutt has 3 "lives". If he dies once, his hat falls off (more detail later), and he gets full life again, but he's weaker without the protection of his hat. If he dies again, his shell falls off, leaving what looks like a copy of him behind. Nutt is then just the white part inside of an acorn, and he gets damaged very easily. If he dies again, he's dead.

When his hat falls off, usually when he's in midair, it drops to the ground, bounces, and if Nutt walks into it, it bounces away from him. It's kinda fun to play soccer with it (until it bounces through a wall and is never seen again)

Edit: the odd-looking sphere thing is Nutt, by the way.

That's nuts.

I'm sorry.

I think I've seen this before.

Just wondering, is the "odd-looking sphere thing" just a placeholder, or are you going to use a modeled nut later?

looking better every day
If you are using DBP you could use cartoon shading, that'd make the kind of look you seem to want.
liking the mr bear outline.

[edit]
tried out the story and got further than last time, got past the nutt's plank route! yay

Medium-Sized Update!

After hearing many complaints (in the real world, of course) about Berry's lack of reaction when hit with a plunger, I finally decided to do something about it. You can see the results in this screen.

Also:

I fixed the problem with falling through the ground
I fixed the outline problem (there is still a slight occasional error, but it's much better now)
I fixed the error with saving at the Nutt level
I fixed the error with deleting objects at the Nutt level

That's about it.

Medium-sized reply
Well, I've been thinking lately. How would I reply to a post as the one above? I've been planning out a course of action, but decided against using either plan A) - extensive critics and plan B) - FLAME.

Are you aware that Mr. Berry falling over could result in some unpleasant encounters between Berry's hind quarters and a toilet plunger?

Looking good.

That's about it.

Medium-sized response

Well, I'm glad you didn't pick either of those courses of action. Just five things:

1.) Berry flips completely over, I just didn't know how to capture it in a screenshot.

2.) If Berry was a guy, he would quite obviously be gay.

3.) Berry is not a guy.

4.) By "hindquarters", I assume you mean "frontquarters"

5.) Berry does not need to worry about such contact. See statement 3.

Seeing point 3, wouldn't contact as a toilet plunger against the "frontquarters" give this game an 18+ rating, seeing Mr. Bear is a guy?

Thanks, everyone. I've tried to post here several times, actually, but my computer keeps overheating, etc.
So, I'm not going to type the same post again, and instead I'll give
Yet Another Little Update

I decided that Mr. Bear was in urgent need of some sort of trail. I tried dust at first, then realized his legs were so short it looked like he was farting. Now, I'm trying footsteps. What do you think?

BTW

In this screen, Mr. Bear doesn't have an outline. This is because, after upgrading DB, I realized that the light had gone nuts and it would be almost impossible to keep using it, so I took the cartoony effect out. Then, I realized that without the cartoony effect, the outline looked weird, so I took that out also. I'm going to have to find some way to make him look better without changing the graphics drastically.

If you use a texture, I think that if you add some sort of downwards emboss or bas relief on the texture you use, that it might look better.

Besides that, I like it

Several tips/opinions:
1. Don't add outlines. Makes it look queer.
2. Do add a little noise to each texture, it gives you the ability to see edges etc.
3. Don't use DB primitives. They SLOOOW framerates.
4. Make sure the prints fade out over time.

Also...
Progress on Mr. Bear has slowed. I think I'm going to drop this thread for a while until I can amaze everyone with the renewed awesomeness resulting from me working behind the scenes. So, enjoy the holiday season without feeling obligated to post here!

Thanks for the crying, everyone. I don't know if I'll release a new demo before I leave, because it's currently full of features designed for testing purposes that I don't want to remove, but would kind of spoil the game's secrets for the demo-players.

@ Bizar
I've considered that possibility, too. I'm going to decide what to do when I'm ready to post the update.

Until then, some things to look forward to:

I have a few more mini-game ideas, including one called "Yellow" where you type dumb insults to launch at books. The dumber the insult, the more points you get (the score will be determined by a dumbness algorithm).

Bear Village will be much more advanced, and full of bears. A few of them will be having conversations, which Mr. Bear can butt into by saying things like "I have to go to the bathroom."

Instead of dying when he falls off the edge, I've decided to make the game more realistic. Nobody dies repeatedly, right? So, instead, Mr. Bear gets rescued by a large, odd-looking bird. I have already began modelling it, and the programming part is almost finished.

More levels will be textured. Also, the general look of the game will be improved.

... and more! Of course, I won't be posting any screens or anything until my super-sized update, coming soon.
