You have to texture it first in the modeling program then export it with that.

Oh, well, I have no idea what a correct UV map is, so I just UV map it in the program and export it with it.

Well you can manually adjust how the UV lays on your model, but it does look like you didn't unwrap it properly.

Well, your UV map should look something like this:

But you just have it as a square so its not taking the tops into consideration when it is throwing the texture on there. Well, as far as I can tell.

Maybe you should have downloaded a simpler program to learn the basics with before spending $3,500?

Don't think that he spent $3,500 *cough*

But if you have then I'm wrong!

3DS Max costs $3,500!!.

NO offense, but from the pictures, I think Blender is better, and costs $3,500 less.

Yeah, it probably does, I am just saying, from what I saw, I think Moncho could do the same thing he is trying to do on 3DS max, twice as fast in blender.

I think 3DS Max is more ment for the HUGE companies who need many extra features.

Maniac, it doesn't matter what software you use to model, if you have enough skill you an model anything you can model in max in for example, wings 3d.
It's just that 3ds max is one of the line of the most advanced and full featured modeling softwares out there. That's why professionals use it.

Yes, that is what I mean, it has a lot of extra features. Doesn't it have that hair thing where you can manipulate hair and create hair so it looks real? I know Blender just got that, and it is AMAZING!!

Yeah, its so much fun to play with too! I love adding hair to stuff for fun. But if your going to render an animation it takes forever!

Speaking of back on topic, just follow a 3ds max unwrapping tutorial like this. http://www.oman3d.com/tutorials/3ds/unwrap_uvw_mapping/ It's not as scary as it sounds. No one here is going to walk you through how to do this step by step.

You open the material editor, then you hit the little grey square next to the diffuse color swatch. After a menu pops up you find the bitmap option and double click on it, find your UV map and select open or whatever it says. After that it will automatically fit itself to the model, but only if you unwrapped it correctly.

To add things together you can group them, look in the menu bar for an option to group, just select the two or more objects and click group. Alternatively you can use the attach function if you already converted the objects into edible polys.

No, you shouldn't get noob slaped because your asking for help. Although please don't post in all CAPS. Sorry I don't have an answer of how to fix your problem but it looks like you need to evenly space this lines in the can or you will get stretching problems.

Edit:
Not in the can itself but in the cans uvmap

Click the little square next to diffuse, then select BITMAP. Then browse for your texture. Then you can drag your texure onto the object. You just haven't put the actual texture on the object yet.

Also, you SHOULD be noob slapped for taking pictures of your computer screen with a camera.

I just realized that.

Well, Moncho-

Press Print Screen on the keyboard, AKA print scr to take a picture of the screen. Then go onto an image editor you have, Gimp, photoshop, etc. And press ctrl+v to paste the image. Save the image afterwards.

If you already knew this and just wanted to go through the extra hassle of getting the camera- Why would you do that?

You also have to click on the little checkered square in the material editor window, or else you have to render to see anything. Its called view material or something.

Heres what you do: (this is straight out of my 3ds max schoolbook)

1) press the "M" hotkey to open the material editor.
2) click the small gray square next to the diffuse swatch like the others said.
3) select "bitmap" from the list.
4) browse to your iameg file and click "open"
5) drag and drop the material sample directly onto your model in one of the view ports.
OR
5) use the "assign material to selection button" on the toolbar, directly under the material sample slots.
6) Click the "show map in view port" button in the toolbar. (I think thats what you're missing!)

That SHOULD work. If not, there is something else wrong here.
