Just a W.I.P of my new weapon, its allmost done, just needs a proper UV and some animations. But I suck at UV mapping
Here it is, K-Pist M09
K-pist is a shorter name for "Kulsprutepistol" in Swedish, wich means Submachinegun. (That was a quick swedishlesson )





What do you think? All C&C are welcome.
And if someone wants to UV map it, then please go ahead. Or e-mail me and I will send you the file since I may sell it

P.S. Its 2067 triangles. And its a fictional weapon, it doesnt exist, yet

I really like the design, BVG. It looks very believable and practical...

Looks like a sub-compact Glock with a heavy slide (to reduce ROF and improve usability or counteract a high powered ammunition type) with the slide lengthened to the rear which increases sight radius while maintaining compactness. The iron sights are well suited to a SMG though presumably a shoulder stock of some kind would fold up into the section at the rear seeing as how the rear sight is closer to the shooter's eye like a shoulder-fired weapon and peep sights would be more difficult to use on a handgun. It would also be cool if it had the fire selector on the slide in the same relative ergonomic position as on the Glock 18 and the option of an extended 33rd magazine to make for a great PDW

You could satiate nitpickers bu putting an ejection port on both sides with the implication that the extractor could be flipped to the right or left hand side but this particular specimen has the extractor on the left for whatever reason.

One small crit from me is that the ejection opening is about four grid squares too far to the rear. On this kind of weapon, the barrel is the part seen through the slide opening which means there would be no way for ammo to make it from the magazine to the chamber opening. You can see in youw wireframe how the opening should line up with the magazine.

Ok, I agree that stock would be a nice addition, byt IMO you should add a frontgrip (i think EAI made a automatic Beretta or sth like that, so it's possible for a pistol to have a frontgrip) and/or make the front a bit longer to make it easier to hold even without a frontgrip. And also it's a SMG, not a pistol, so I think it should have the upper part (I'm not good at all this name etc, so forgive me, I'll be copypasting some words, so they may be used wrong) shouldn't move with only ejection port opening, like in other SMG's and AR's. I couldn't imagine fireing a SMG shooting with high rate of fire and the sights going front-back all the time...

Really, it's more of a machine-pistol like a Beretta 93R or Glock 18. In both examples the slide opperates as such and ROF is much higher than most SMGS (usually about 1000RPM). They aren't meant to be all that accurate at any sort of distance. MOstly to just put as as many rounds at possible at point-blank ranges in an emergency. It's a little bit bigger than a common MP but not quite SMG sized so it falls more into the modern PDW category with company such as the HK MP7. He has the small section of rail at the front where a front grip could be attached. If the barrel was fixed to the receiver, the suppressor could also act as a forward grip (like a Mac10) but one would assume this uses a Browning action which means the barrel cams downward slightly to facilitate feeding.

It would be cool seeing it modeled/animated it in both roles. One as-is and more machine-pistol-like and another with front grip and stock extended to be more SMG-like. As an interesting side-note the iron-sights used by German SF on MP7s have both kinds of sights on them. In the down position they are low-profile pistol sights and flipped up, they act as SMG peep sights for increased accuracy when using the stock fully extended and the front grip rotated down.

Vague description inder the short recoil header here:

Basically, most autoloading pistols use some form or another of John Browning's design (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Browning)in which when the muzzle is indexed by the reciever (the bottom portion of a pistol with the grip and trigger mechanism) upon opening, the barrel cams slightly so that the muzzle point's up a few degrees thus tilting the opening where the fresh cartridge goes downward towards the magazine for more reliable feeding with bullets having a blunted nose such as the .45 ACP or hollowpoints of any caliber. Sorry, I don't really have the a simpler explination. It's easiest if you have access to an autoloading pistol just to have a look. If I wasn't 7000 miles away from my Glock, I'd snap some pics and show you.

edit: Yeah, the MP9. Same here. I guess that's why I imagened it might have some sort of stock incorporated.

First, thanks everyone for the comments

And I get yout point Errant, I will move the ejector a little bit forward. Didnt think of that

This gun is mainly as a support weapon, when you are out of ammo on your primary or just dont have time to reload so it´s not made for accuracy
I will make several different versions of it:
-Basic
-Basic with silencer
-Stock and frontgrip
-Stock and frontgrip + a silencer
-Basic with some kind of grenade launcher

But untill I cant get it textured I wont go further, fells kind of unnecessary to put down lots of work on animation if it wont be textured

That's actually my recommended work-flow pipeline with FPS weapons. You'll get better texturing results if you get it animating and ingame before UVing and texturing because it's better for seeing where you need detail and you can allocate pixels accordingly. You can also make final mesh tweaks without worrying about messing up your mapping. As guns are all hierarchy animation anyway, it's not like it's a hassle or anything compared to a character or something with vertex weighting and that sort of thing. If you have to export to another application for UV mapping then I guess it's more of a hassle but there are always workarounds.

Since I use Milkshape for this, I dont have any proper UV Mapper built in. I have to use UV mapper classic or some other "3rd party" tool. And it will surely mess up my animations etc so I prefer to have it at least UV Mapped before animating.
Maybe I will have a try at UV later tonigth.

sorry to be a downer on such a good model, well not really just nitpicking lol,

you could easily shave off a few polys in the barrel (top) theres a small cluster up from the trigger and right slighty (most likly from the bollean-ing) and the frount hand gaurd, unless the triangles and there for a reason,

dident see a wireframe before.. but hay am fussy

dose look nice, like darmic said they have funky textures on the bullets. i dont think in most clips the bullets are supposed to be on the outside either.

I think it's just the exaggerated horizon line. I believe the cartridges are twice as tall as you perceive them, judging from the barrel diameter.

Looks like a translucent magazine to me. Nothing too odd about that but you should remove the bottom two or three and put a spring and magazine follower (the little platform that pushes up the cartridges).

The transperant mag was just a test. I will make one in metal since it didnt turn out as great as I wanted

I mean it looks strange being a bit brighter than everything else+these dark dots. IMO it should have the same texture as the gun's body.
