Cheers for the comments. Latest updates:
Most of the way through the gore engine - blood splats from bullet wounds, pools of blood, blood drips down walls, players are knocked about and howl in pain.
Currently working on the gib engine, so can create limbs and heads and other bits that fly around. Aiming to have many death animations.
The collision system detects the body zone, so head shots are possible allowing decapitations and 1 shot kills. Explosions have an epicenter and also a shrapnel based damage system, which is quite cool. Stakes stick into people.
I'll upload another vid soon, once the death animations are complete.

I started a big scrolling game with this kinda engine a while ago. But it was just too much work for one man to juggle with real life, which is why I work on smaller games now. The WIP is here:

I've made a simpler version of this game before. The keyboard locking isn't an issue as the controls are very simple, and the mouse has no advantage as it's not analogue (i.e. when you move the mouse right, it treats it as a keypress until you stop moving the mouse. Therefore it has no aim advantage). But the controls certainly aren't ideal.
However, the intention here was just to make a game for me and my mates to play. I'll release it as a 4-player-on-the-same-compo type game first, and then if it's well received, might try an online version!
