Hi guys, after reading a bunch of posts and threads it seemed like some ppl thought tht fpsc was too limited and you couldnt make a good horror game with it. but its time to prove them wrong. so here is the contest make the best, scariest horror level.

Rewards: bragging rights that your the best horror level designer on the fpsc forums. thanx to crispex and Indy Dude, you also get free webhosting for a year from crispex, and Indy Dude's model pack

what im looking for is: level design, lighting, and how scary it is.

Scoring: scaryness 1-50pts. lighting 1-20pts. level design 1-20pts.
how well it runs 1-10pts.

Edit: the new deadline is febuary 1st.

P.S. the scarier it is the more chance you hve of winning!

well in the title it says Horror LEVEL Contest. so its a one level contest. you can enter as many times as you want. what i love about fpsc is the trigger zones so in your entry i'd love to see unique ways of using trigger zones. the level can be as big or as small as you want it. but if the level runs too slow points will be deducted. a major part of this scoring system is how scary it is. you can hve awsome lighting and amazing entity placement but if its not scary u hve a signifigantly lowered chance of winning.

Your Demon Sun demo freaked the life out of me with the movies and all that! And I'm not that easy to scare (I've played Dead Space on Impossible, BioShock on Hard and Resident Evil on Hard, none of them scared me lol)!

BTW, I'm not entering, sorry. I prefer to make something & show it off without having to be in a contest, sorry. And that account for every game I made, lol.

well now I guess am in execuse me I removed my previous Ideas though I guess everybody read them by now but still got some new..

just have a couple of questions though
- can Ply's mod be used?
- is there must be a story for the level?
- should I waste time designing a menu to make it like a full game or that won't be taken in consederation?
- can use models I designed myself or just the original model packs are allowed?

I was interested in this competition, until you said that

So story is not important, menus and other presentation devices are not important, and level design is less important than scaryness???

That's a pity...

It seems that this contest will just determine who is better and implemented Bloodeath's Horror Game techniques.

If you want to get more people interested, do the following things:
1) Have multiple judges, if possible get CoZ.
2) Have a proper scoring system
3) Award extra points for custom content, if this is menus and intro movies then so be it.
4) No one likes a level where you don't know why you're there; mark entrants of their storylines
5) I would say 'no' to all mods too (if you've already got them, fair enough, but you're not allowed them if you know I mean).

im srry AE but the rules and setup of the competition are not going to change. if you dont want to enter this contest because of the scoring system and misc. then dont enter the contest.

Yeah, I checked out your demo CoZ, and I must say, I was truly impressed. You certainly are one of the best, so I would like to see someone even compare to yours. So far, I would give yours 10/10.

I personally think that games must be made from scratch, specifically for the competition, because CoZ's game was one he developed before, and decided to submit as a contest entry. People already favor CoZ's games, which sets a biased mood, so let's eliminate any chance of advantage, and make everyone submit a game specifically made for the competition.

Don't assume that, I remember when CoZ was criticized for when he tried to make models, or something to that degree, then he made a nice game and got appraised for it. Some might not like the style he makes his games, others might.

Woah!!, hang on Guys! To be completely honest I have nothing to prove here. I have a BOTB award which most of the people who are trying to drag me down dont have, and considering this comp is being hosted by someone who me personally would consider is new to FPSC and the forums, Im not exactly taking it seriously. And by saying I have to make a level from scratch, is just giving me a chance to make something better, due to my current entry to this contest is a Alpha release, which I released pretty much half done in my opinion, and with glitches that have reently been fixed, so I would class my entry as pretty poor work by my standard, due to it has all been changed for the better.. so everyone wants to "beat me" now is probably your easiest chance, and I will no doubt congratulate the winner of this comp, but to be honest I have nothin to prove. I am just doing it for fun, and due to this, I have entered a sub standard demo by my standards due to im not serious about this, but to everyone who is trying to drag down my skills, Put your game dev where your mouth is

If you want do to Sci-Fi, no-one is stopping you!

The theme is Horror, not modernday horror, therefore you can have a horror game in a sci-fi environment!

I'm sure some of bond1's TGC store work like his seeker, shroudling and zombies would be horror, and fit nicely with sci-fi..

To me, a BOTB award is not as cool as being able to have a game with many sales. It's not that a BOTB award isn't a great thing, but it's only known locally to this forum.
