Dang, how am I late for this? I guess this is up for grabs then eh? I tried being sneaky and beating you all to it, but it backfired!
Quote: "Otherwise Sid would be a good candidate, though maybe he's a bit busy with college and all."
Thanks for the nomination! Nah, school has me busy, but I frequent this board at least 4 to 5 times a day, with occasion of course. I would love to be a mod! I believe I have a lot to bring to the table, especially energy!
Quote: "Alucard and Sid both seem like great candidates--they are easily the most frequent and constructive posters around here, and also talented artists, although tbh I haven't seen that much of Sid's work so I can't be certain."
Your quite right AndrewT, I have not shown much of my work, so you would be right to question my expertise. There really hasn't been a need to show my work so I haven't really bothered with it. I have thought of making a "my big debut" thread, but I'm not really one to toot my own horn. It's fine to show off your work, but my work is constantly evolving because I am constantly getting better. I have a very high work standard for myself. I have modeled plenty of things, but very few in which I am proud of. You must understand, that after only 30 weeks of animation classes, there isn't a whole bunch of high quality work I can show. By the time we figure out one thing, we're on to the next. An associates degree is only meant to get your feet wet. My knowledge is a mile wide, but only six feet deep. Every day I wake up and dig as deep as I can because I want to know, so badly, everything there is to know. Now that my Ani degree is coming to a close, it's very interesting because I can tell how much I have come to know, but I also have realized how much I don't. It's a scary feeling, like being on the edge of the world, but it's exhilarating and I live for it.
Having said that, I am at the top of my class. My unquenchable thirst for knowledge and my determination to refine my talent is what excites me about this field of work so much. Listen, every twitchy fingered teen wants to be a game developer, but only a select few make the cut. I believe I have what it takes and I am working at 110% to make this dream a reality. I get to wake up in the morning, dream up something, and then set out to create it. What can be a better line of work than that?
Anyway, a bit about me and why I think I should be mod. Also included is the note I sent Keith starting this whole idea off.

First, a few samples of my work:
WIP! This is a Subway train model I am currently developing for my capstone project. One of many models actually. This is the first model of the project, and is probably one of my best pieces so far. This model will go on to be completed, textured with help of a diffuse (with Ambient Occlusion bake in) and normal map.
WIP! This is a turnstyle for the subway entrance. More work is needed.
Chair render I needed to do for my church. We just bought a building, and their is a "buy a chair for someone you would like to see at church" campaign going on. The more chairs bought, the more I fill in the screen. This was only day one.
Screenshot from a model and texture I made and used in an Unreal Engine map for my game design class. It's a sci-fi partion door.
A dog house I used for my animation principles project.
These are both modular pieces to a hallway that can be used in game engines. They aren't lit very well.
About me: I am currently in my last semester of college before obtaining an Associates in Computer Animation. Currently, a small team and I are working together on our capstone project, which is a next-gen Unreal Tournament 3 Mod. We just came out of the pre-development phase and are several days into the development phase. Follow my work and find out more about the project at
http://strewnfield.wordpress.com. This will be, by far, the work I am most proud of so far. The subway car you see in my work is not completed yet, but you can tell it's on to a great start. And that's only my first model for this project!
I am also president of my college's Computer Animation club. My responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning and scheduling meetings, organizing fund raiser events, bringing in guest speakers, helping students out with their problems, designing the club banner (draft found
here), and other dirty footwork for the department chair. In fact, Baker would not be with an Animation Club if it wasn't for me. I was the only student to have enough motivation and dedication to get such a massive undertaking underway.
Why do I feel as though I should be a mod? Well, I said it in the message in the code brackets above, and I encourage you to read that. But in short, I have a vision for this board, just as I had a vision for my college's club. There is a great deal of potential here on the TGC forums for fresh starts and growth. Whether I become a mod or not, I will help this become a reality. But really... read the message in the code brackets. In does a good job at summing my feelings up. You guys are awesome, and I really want to say that I was able to come along side all of you in a way that the 3D board has been needing someone to come along side it for a long time now!
And before I forget, I do freelance web development work for a living right now. It's not much, but it gets my by month to month. During the summer I plan on doing freelance animation work as well as promoting some models on turbosquid and possibly here.
