prasoc, damn you. I was totally going to do that. But, I was sort of hesitant to start because I knew someone would have the same idea

Looks like I'm a little late to start in this competition..Maybe next time.

For future reference, is it alright if my entries are watermarked? I'm learning Maya for school using the 8.5 PLE, so all renders and shaded viewports have "Personal Learning Edition" stamped across them.

A vertex in 3D modeling terms is a point in 3D space.

Just to be sure, are we allowed more than one entry? If not I'll post the second object I 'Sculpted' in the polycount thread.

Cheers!

Are we allowed to edit the edge flow of the model? Like making a quad's diagonal go the other direction?

I don't see why not, but I would guess you could only enter 1 of them.

Ok, sorry for just jumping in like this, but basically, because we aren't allowed to add any polygons, all we can actually do is move faces, vertexes and edges? Interesting concept!

Best.

here are the sample pics of 8 other models I made from the 5x5 cube starting block..

I have lots of other ideas too,.. but I'll leave my starcraft like bunker as my entry. the models and textures for these I have posted in my 3D Graphics buffet thread.

Cheers!

Edit: As I come up with more ideas of what to make from the initial 5x5 cube I'll just post the pic samples here.

is bridging allowed?

its pretty much the same as cap holes?

removing two planes and filling in the sides, same as making a tunnel in clay, ##

#################

i found a nasty way around the rules before people could cap holes delete a few polys cap hole again and get alot of extra polies, maby set an extra, 20 cap/bridge/intrude poly limit to stop this,

or tell you guys so its out in the open and no one can cheat?

cheers cb,

edit in///

might aswell edit this post to throw my progress of 50min work, ##

just a good old long sword, it was a pain to get the blade area right since the 5x5 box. am going to work on it some more, i briged the centre area like i do with most of my weapons, so overall its 154 polies

id like to argue that your not supposed to add polys and by bridging or intruding you are adding polys.

but, if remove a chunk of clay for a block, the clay is ''capped''

its not hollow, Clay Pottery style

This was the arugemnt i was bringing forward, and thats the reason i said limit it for simple things like ive done, and if people abuse this then simply tell the with a slap lol

ahh, we can argue all we want but its biggads choice

And he has already stated that you can't add any geometry. Which would limit what you are asking.

Feel free to delete as many polies as you want. The only adding that can be done is to fill(cap) in holes. So a general rule of thumb, if you're adding a face back to fill a hole and the polygon count increases by more than 1, that's not allowed.

Out of curiosity, can we start using some of the older competion ideas? i took a trip down memory lane/ and looked at the past compos, theres some really great ones out thier! like the mounted beast, which i was surpriesed to find Joh's work in, - the surprised part was that is from 05 and it still looks amazing.

the steam punk idea was a good one too.#
thiers a good few in there!#

sorry for jumping the gun a little lol

Up until now I had no idea what I wanted to turn that cube into, but then inspiration struck after watching re-watching the pilot of BSG.

Model is done! Now onto UV mapping then texture mapping!

Still need to do some editing, but the model is almost done.

These are all great looking entries, and in great quantities too!

Great work everyone, only a few more days left! Be sure to get everything posted in the final entry thread by the deadline.

Pretty good Neo, but I plan on taking your title this competition. Muhahahahaha!

Azunaki:
The cube has a good amount of polygons to create a detailed face. With a good texture map you can make it look really good.

Started to really fine tune the model. Unfortunately I can't get a decent top exhaust intake because there are just not enough polys. So I'm going to keep it with only two and dub it the MK Prototype.

I'm satisfied with the mesh as it is now. NOW I'm ready to uv-map this sucka!

Just my humble opinion, extend the deadline over the weekend? seems many have made entries but never uploaded the models. Officially the contest ended yesterday and I only see 2 uploaded models in the entry thread. (Mine and KeithMAN's entry have a download attachment) Others have posted screens and renderings of 'their entry' but I thought the compo also required us to upload our finished model for the judges to be able load and view them in different viewing programs. I sure hope this does not fubar the compo, with all those wip's that never got posted in the entry thread.

Anyways, it's just an observation I made, I'll let the judges decide if the deadline needs to be extended or not.

Cheers!

Deadline unfortunately cannot be extended, as I'd like to have the winners announced in this months newsletter. The judges will be coordinating today/tonight about the winners based on the entrants. So the sooner you post the better, even if you didn't get your entry in, there's a chance the judges may check the entry thread at a later time tonight!

*sigh* I didn't realize we needed to post the model itself.

If it's not too late, I've edited my entry post with a download for the .x model, the base texture and a baked AO texture.
