Well...I don't watch a lot of movies, but if I had to pick a top five then;

#1 Happy Gilmore

#2 Transformers

#3 Billy Madison

#4 Spider-Man 3

#5 Spider-Man

It's late so I might give images later. But I'm sure you know at least 3 of those.

-Pirates of the Caribbean (all 3, 1 best, 3 second, 2 worst)
-Lord of the Rings (best to worst: 3, 1, 2)
-Batman Begins
-I Am Legend
-The Dark Knight
-Iron Man
-300
-Black Hawk Down
-Children of Men
-Shooter
-Inside Man
-Shawshank Redemption

And I have a strong feeling Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince will soon be added to that list, because it looks awesome (and faithful to the book) .

Oh, definitively Dark Floors

Seriously though, I'm no good at pin-pointing favourites...
2001 was good though, and Close Encounter (if it was called that, can't remember) (yeah, I like space movies )
Most films I've enjoyed I've seen on tv though and don't remember the names of, unfortunately.

Oh wait, Braveheart was pretty good too, wasn't it?

I can't really think of many at the moment but here i go. In no particular order.

Shawshank Redemption
The Pianist
Saving Private Ryan
Godfather (yeah, yeah i know.)
Forrest Gump

Probably not my top 5 all time but those are the great films that come to mind.

I would say in no particular order:

The Shawshank Redemption : I loved it, it has some strong characters and good acting and was well put together.
Spongebob Squarepants: The Movie (seriously) : Funny as hell, childish, yes, but the only thing with David Hasselhoff I'll enjoy. Oh and the song at the end, I had goosebumps.
Battle Royale I & II: I felt they were interesting movies - it had some good main characters. The second one was different, but still good.
Machine Girl : Just because of the drill bra, pure genius
Survive Style 5 Plus: Perhaps one of the strangest. I never imagined Vinnie Jones in a crazy random Japanese movie talking to a piece of broccoli.
Children Of Men : I've never read the book and a friend assures me that it is a great book too. The film is fantastic, I quite like the ending too - first you think, "is that it?" and then realise that it could be no other way without ruining it.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show : Come on, "I'm a sweet transvestite from, transexual Transylvania!" As bizarre and mad as this film is (and considered erotic in the 70s, but it nothing now) it is a stroke of genius.
A Clockwork Orange : A classic film and a classic novel, though I've not finished the novel. I viddied the film again the other night.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas : What amazes me is that it's a true story and that the book was an actual piece of gonzo journalism looking at the effects of drugs. Johnny Depp does a good performance in it and you really do feel like you're on drugs afterwards. (not that I'd know what it's like, but your mind is perhaps a little warped by it) The film is very close to the book.
Fight Club : I've not read the book, but the film is well made and I quite like the twist at the end. I'd say more but I'd be breaking the first rule of fight club: do not talk about Fight Club.

[edit]

Oolite reminded me of 2 others

Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan. The latter is perhaps the best WW2 film I've ever seen and the former is just different, yet a really enjoyable film to watch.

I'm indecisive when it comes to choosing favourites when there are so many to choose from, so lists tend to suffice.

Ok, I've narrowed it down to 5. There are 5-10 which I took off the list to make it five, and I also got rid of the ones people had already posted, so I can't say for certain if this is really the order they go in, and there are some people already said that would go above some of these.

#1 FLCL -Possibly the best Anime ever made, even 9 years later. Of course, if you need to understand what's happening after one sit down, this might not be for you.

#2 Serenity -I'm going to have to say this is my favorite Scifi action Movie. Whoever cancelled Fire Fly was insane.

#3 The Man From Earth -A really excellent film, it's about a man who has lived for 10,000 years, and presents a lot of interesting concepts. It also is almost entirely a bunch of intellectuals sitting in a living room talking to each other.

#4 Pans Labyrinth -A dark fairly tale, and very metaphorical movie. A true work of art.

#5 Castle In The Sky -This is THE best kids movie I have ever seen, it's fun, looks great, keeps a fast pace, and has a big message.

I think basically he is saying that the sequels sucked so bad that they're not even worthy of being sequels. Cause it's pretty true. The 3rd movie was horrible... 2 was ok at least.

I'm a big resident evil fan, proberly because she has hot legs...and I mean dang! She really does have some hot legs! I can see why she attracts all them zombies! Dam fine sexy legs!

Anyway, Resident evil I love the matrix(all, except the animatrix, I didnt really care for it).

I guess I'm more into moden films rather than the good oldies ones as some above, although they are ok!

Dirty harry for example is great : ) Awesome gun he has!

Borat? Really? Well who am I to judge.
Someone reminded me of Back to the future, and those movies were all great. A rare occurence with them as I like all 3 movies equally, unlike the star wars or matrix movies.

UHF.

Quote: "Machine Girl : Just because of the drill bra, pure genius"

Yes, I bet it took at least 24 monkeys to come up with that. Which is almost twice the amount the common script-writer has at his/her disposal. Impressive. Almost equally impressive was the disease (I can not remember specifically if it was a disease) in the tokyo gore police movie that made people grow weapons out of missing limbs. Yes, biological chainsaws and things like that.

For Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which version?

1. Hackers
2. Matrix
3. Boondock Saints
4. Sin city
5. Pulp Fiction

Others that did not make my "favorite" list but are excellent movies: Battle Royale, American History X, City of God

Tokyo Gore Police has been on my Amazon wishlist after I read the summary, never knew anyone who's seen it.

Oh, and a few other movies I forgot about, Barbed Wire and Tank Girl!

5. Road Warrior -Fallout 3 got me interested and it's a really good movie to my surprise
4.Star Wars- Defined my childhood
3 Pitch Black- "Got it all wrong, holy man. I absolutely believe in God... And I absolutely hate the f#%@er."(I'm not satanic, but I always thought that 2 b a well-thought-out quote from the movie, good for its context)
2.Lord of the Rings series- I know it's sounds sappy but this was one of the few movies to make me cry..... Great action and storytelling balance.
1. Serenity - Words aren't needed to describe how perfect that was to movie. Firefly, why did you leave?!

my taste in music isn't weird, its just so amazing your ears haven't quite adapted to it yet.

Well I don't mean it literally, I just thought it worth mentioning as it's just one of those guilty pleasures. The movie was truly awful, but there were memorable scenes, notably the drill-bra. I believe it was you that showed me the trailer to that film...naturally it's your fault that I watched it.

Also, thanks for pointing out Primer, Jeku - that looks pretty damn awesome. Friends and I have just finished a bunch of physics and maths exams, so that looks like a decent film to try and puzzle out

Lemme see....

That one movie with the giant spaceship in the beginning, and this little short runt of a villain wearing a big helmet, black shorts and tie, and likes to fry the crotches of his subordinates with a wicked green beam... and he's surrounded by morons. Let's not forget the Druish Princess, the Prince of the Ford Galaxy, an alien who's his own best friend, and that annoying female 'bot.

Then there's the other one about an airplane disaster where all the pilots end up incapacitated and their only hope is a pilot with a drinking problem (he seems to be throwing his drinks everywhere except down his throat) and the flight attendant who happens to be his former girlfriend...

In the beginning there was nothing. There'll be nothing in the end...

Because as incredible as the show and movie were the idiots in their marketing department picked names that were not going to attract their target audience to watch them. Had the show been called "boobs in space" "Star Mercs" etc they would have gotten alot more people to watch them and those viewers would likely have been hooked.

My 5 movies (really tough no partic order)

The Fifth Element
Finding Forrester
Memoires of a Geisha
Miracle on 34th Street
Planet of the Apes (original)

close 6th Rocky IV

Most dissapointing movie of all time Matrix 2

Jeku, lazerus, you two just failed my geek exam - you don't read XKCD. Lazerus, that actually was pretty harsh of you. So I'll just go and assume you're not smart enough to grasp basic sarcasm. Jeku, come on man, it's a joke reference - do you know me as a guy who lurks for a flaming? I'm disappointed in you, seriously.

Now, for the fun stuff, XKCD.
http://xkcd.com/566/

Oh, and for the worst movies ever (some of those might be slightly violent and/or contain sex(ual references), by the way) I currently list Riki-Oh, The incredibly strange creatures who stopped living and became mixed-up zombies, Evil Aliens - but we're really trying to find the worst movie ever at school.

The best scene in Plan 9 was when one of the cops uses his loaded gun to scratch his head (trying to figure out something). The acting is classic.

I love movies that everybody else hates. So my pick for number 1 is Battlefield Earth (and no I'm not a scientologist). I love post-apocalyptic movies... and this technically isn't one but it's close enough for me since the Humans were stripped of modern technology.

#1. Battlefield Earth - You gotta love how arrogant the Psychlos are.

#2. The Postman - When my mom gets stressed out all I have to do is quote President Starkey... "Stuffs gettin' better."

#3. Planet of the Apes - The good one. Love the line where Zira doesn't want to kiss Taylor "All right, but you're so damned ugly."

#4. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - The one BBC made with Simon Jones as Author Dent. The only parts I liked about the new Hitchhikers Guide was the cameo of Simon Jones as the holographic guy warning them to keep away from Magrathea. And the original Marvin the robot waiting in the line.

#5. The Wizard of Speed and Time - Every time I see this I want to run outside and make my own movies.

3 was pretty bad, but it was not as much of a dissapointment as 2. I expected 2 to be something really good since the 1st was so great. 3 though really bad could only get better, it didn't but at least the fall was a few steps not the 60o story plunge it was from 1 to 2.

I saw 2 on IMAX, as my friend and I left I asked him what he thought was the worst thing about the movie. "that we paid 14 bucks to see that s@#!" and that was my exact thought. the only bright point of that night was that while we were waiting for the showtime in the bar there was a Red-Sox vs Marlins game on and the sox batted around 2 times in the first inning
