No it's nothing like losing the game (lol you lost the game), i'll try to work on it this weekend. What I have added before is a login/register system to the server which stores it as a hash (md5 will do I guess) with the kills deaths stored as well.

Holy crap everyone, I completely forgot about this! Got caught up with making my Xbox Live Indie Game :S (coming along quite nicely actually: http://dev-il.com/blog/programs.php )

I will be working on this in a little while (like, in hours rather than months lol).

edit: jesus, the code is pretty bad. I'll spend my time today recoding parts of it

Yep. Revamping the whole game fixing little things and adding other things like a dev console when the tilde/grave (~/`) is pressed

Lots is done. Basically, I'm revamping the whole thing. Ive recoded the health/respawn (now includes spectator mode), a class system like TF2s working on bots and basically adding a layer of polish which then it should be ready for a beta

the map on the end has orange textures that look like one of valves, if you've recreated the look then that's cool, but i think it looks just too similar mabey try changing the colour, green mabey

Im using 3ds max with a bit of my own level map files (to place objects, sky, lights, etc.)

edit: infact, in the game you will be able to mod it to place your own maps in and add new gametypes. A server admin will be able to mod the game as much as he wants!

Unfortunately, if I want to release a beta soon I have to take out bots as they are very very broken (all of the recoding screwed them up). This leaves online play with other people and making your own server which other people can join. In the full game, however, there WILL be fully functioning bots

I'd be willing to run a server for a few weeks so people don't have to set up port forwarding and create their own...

That'd be great (first I need to finish the server lol) I will also make a server "browser" like Valve has which would make people's life easier

Ok. An update on server progress: right now, you press a button and instead of sending your position to the server (cant be spoofed now!) it sends your button presses (like WSAD space shift) and it moves forward on the server and sends back the new position to the client 20 times a second. This makes it really jerky so I've added position interpolation so it smoothly travels between the positions

Could you post a link to the Models you use for the guns?

The games looking pretty sweet i must say, i've been trying to make an fps and i can't see it being anywhere near as good as this xD

Also, could you explain to me how you position the gun relative the the camera?

Thanks

Model packs 9 + 10 from FPSC. But I have reduced the amount of dirt on each of the guns in photoshop (before they are seriously grimy!) To position the gun to the camera, I position and rotate it to what the camera is at and I have 2 values in my guns bank file which has a "forward" and a "right" so I can position it to the right position for each gun seperately instead of all of them.

Thanks for the advice, and wow xD Your textures are a huge improvement from the ones included in the pack imo.

Also, I have a bumpmapping shader on the gun with dynamic lighting, so it would blend in to the level (usually there are 3 main lights per level allowing the gun to change colour, and look shiny, etc.)

This wip looks awesome. The graphics in my WIP suck, especially the textures. I know this is gonna sound like a dumb question, but how do you make the level look that good? What do you use for lighting (or lightmapping) and stuff? I'm decent at programming, but I'm not very good with graphics. My models are okay at best, and my textures just suck. Anyway

Awesome looking game, I hope you finish it Keep up the good work.

I use 3ds max's built in lightmapping tools ("Render to texture") and CGTextures. Basically thats all lol

edit: also, be sure to place the lights in spots where they will cast good shadows and make the level "cluttered" with misc. objects like boxes and stuff

Made a quick auto-updater with changelog screen. Will mean that I can post a beta very soon and everyone who gets it will be able to keep with the latest version quick bug fixes! Basically what I need to do now before a demo is getting bots shooting the player and making some levels look nicer!

edit: and fixed weapon pickups ^_^'

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

man i liked every part of it except the fire getting out of the gun while shooting, its looks too cartoony, add some alpha and dont make it "solid color", make it somewhat noisy, you get me right? :p

other than that, the game is amazing!
