I think he rather means theatrical and bombastic. However, most epic songs are long-threaded like you said, budokaiman.
I also like long songs, but they have to stay interesting. If not, the whole song is ruined.

Maybe that'll do the trick?

Make that 4 or 5 (depending on the number of bandmembers) and it's a deal!

It's not a bad idea, however, to much echoes can make the overall sound cloudy, I guess.

Yeah, not TOO much. I mean stuff that's fast and...Well, huge.

Like Dragonforce. I like them. Fast, epic, but I don't want a long song. You know, Power Metal. Hey, I just thought of a name. PWNer Metal. (it's a joke! Don't put it on the thread!)

How about epic as in Therion plays with an Orchestra, opera singers, a choir and their own instruments? Creating one epic symphony of awesomeness. I love how in the album they started of entirely with classic music, including guitar riffs and drums beats into the mix.

More people need to know of this band ^^ Sweden is doing a good job keeping them secret.

Another one - Mozart's Dies Irae...classical, but with guitars.

Another great Classical/Neo-Classical album is Yngwie Malmsteen's Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra in E flat minor, Opus 1.

I found a good example of what I meant by "Epic."

See:
Dragonforce (but shorter ) or the end of the Tenacious D song "Beelzeboss." Truly awesome.

Yeah, I see what you mean by epic now. Those guys can do magic with their guitars, hey? Guess it'll be a long time for me to play like that. It takes hours and hours and hours of practice, and someone who teaches them to become that good.

Quote: "Another great Classical/Neo-Classical album is Yngwie Malmsteen's "

Yep, another great gitarist wizard. Are you that good, budokaiman? Or are you (just like me) more of an average guitarplayer?

Glad you liked it Virtual Nomad!
Yeah, I forgot to mention 'Seasons in the Abyss'. I have all their cd's, so my bad.

Quote: "I just listened to your song intro, it was great! What program do you use to mix it?"

Thanx BlueKlayman, so glad you enjoyed it! I use FL Studio to set up the drum- and basspatterns, and that wave file I import with Audacity where the recording of the guitars begins.

Thanx to you too, Herakles! Yep, Hell Awaits does kick some serious ass! That's the place where we're all going!
I also like Necrophilliac and At Dawn They Sleep on that album. (actually, I like ALL their songs)
BTW, how did your recordings go? Anything finished yet?

Well, he's definitely one of the best drummers in the world (after me that is ), so it should be interesting to see what effect that will give on their music.

Great! I'm looking forward to it! I'll probably continue with that last song I did, and work on the heavier parts and enhance the drum pattern a slight bit.

Oh?? I did'nt know that???
Just kidding. I like them a lot too! Great musicians, I'm even jealous at some point. Their singer James LaBrie is'nt always that good (in my opinion that is), but they're technically and musically awesome!

Really? That simple? Guess it shows how awesome raw guitar recording can sound, eh? I am saving up for an M-Audio fast track USB. Imports the tracks straight into the computer/Audacity.

Yes, it's that simple. I did'nt do anything special to make the recording sound better. The only thing I did do, was cut out some unwanted sounds after I recorded the distorted part. My BOSS FX processor has a noise suppressor to limit those unwanted overtones and stuff, but I don't set it to the maximum, so that the sound is'nt too compressed or cut, you know what I mean? I still want to have that full rich sound, but without the unwanted noises. I'm very pleased with my FX processor, as it is (or was several years ago) frequently used on live performances.

Quote: "I am saving up for an M-Audio fast track USB. Imports the tracks straight into the computer/Audacity."

What does that Audio fast track USB do? Is it to record directly (like a recording program with amp simulation and FX), or is it to store the tracks, like a memory USB stick?
Are you also a musician, and what do you play for instrument?

@budokaiman,

About that last song I did, I would like your opinion on something. Shall I continue with some mid tempo riffs and slowly build up to a fast tempo, or should I directly start with a fast beat and have some slower parts in between? What do you reckon?

Any suggestions?

For the acoustic intro (I assume that this is the song that you are referring to) keep the intro the way that you have it, then get into a faster tempo, maybe have a slower tempo bridge before the chorus, have the chorus and verses be the same tempo.

It is a USB that plugs into the guitar and stops extra sounds coming from the background.

Yes, I am a musician. I am a beginner though. I play guitar. I also have an electric drum kit which I can play decently.

What style do you play? More like Guns 'n Roses, or do you have other styles of metal that you like and play?
So, you're a drummer? Great! Maybe you could be our drummer? Does your drum kit have a double bass drum, and can you play them at a rapid speed?

Haha, yeah. If you hadn't picked that up, Slash is my Favourite guitarist.

Oh, it was merely to connect your drumkit to your PC? It's not a device that needed to be fixed or something?
How many different drumkits (samples) do you have on your drumkit? Can you tweak the settings of those samples, or how does it work?

BTW, if you would just have another footpedal, would'nt that work to simulate a second bassdrum?

Well, I think you need two drums. The pedal hits a rubber surface that then detects how hard you hit it. And the drum is small, so it would not be able to fit two pedals. I would need an extra one, which is way too expensive.

It sounds great when I have it plugged into my amp, but I've been trying to record stuff, and when I play chords, they just come out too fuzzy and impossible to tell what they are. I'm going to play around with the settings some more, but I think that the poor sound quality is from my guitar, not the RP350.

Hmm, since your guitar is a B.C. Rich guitar (I assume it is a genuine model) I don't think the fuzzy sounds would be caused by the guitar. And like you said, it sounds great when you plug it into your amp. Have you tried to directly record from your RP350 to your computer, without the amp? Or is the incoming signal to your PC to loud? Because when it's to loud, the signal is beeing compressed and becomes a little fuzzy. And do you record from the line-in of your computer, or from the MIC?

That was what I was doing. I have the RP350 plugged into my computer via USB and in Audacity I set that as the primary input.

I'll check. If that doesn't work I'll just upload the less quality version.

Hm, I don't know if that's such a good idea (i.e. I've never tried it before). The way I record is simple but effective: I record directly from the headphones-out of my FX-Processor, to the line-in of my soundcard. Maybe you could try the same if all else fails? *hint* *hint*

Firstly, which soundcard do you have? Secondly, I should plug it into the line-in of your PC (soundcard).
Also, are the parameters to record set up properly? You can set the quality of recording (hz).

Hm, I see (or rather I hear) what you mean, budokaiman.
It's a very nice riff, but the sound quality is less.
Do you have a line-in or only a MIC-in on your laptop?
I don't know much about laptops, but that could be the problem of the quality beeing so low. I think the sound is beeing compressed to a lower frequency (8 bit, 22000 Hz).
Although mine also is an onboard soundcard, I can set the quality of the recording up to 16 bits, 96000 Hz (studio-quality).
So, you don't have a desktop?
I also noticed that you had a reverb or chorus effect. Did you try without them?
I played your riff and recorded it too. Is this what you wanted it to be?

Cheers

Don't use this port for anything other than a PC microphone, as that's precisely what it's designed for, and has a different impedance (and no doubt a crappy preamp) than the line-in port.

I have mine recording as 32-bit, and I've tried all of the different frequencies, 22050 is the only one that doesn't sound hollow and old, but it is still kind of easy to pick out the different notes.

Your sound quality is much better than mine.

Thanks, but I only the riff as a sound test because it had power chords, chugs and single notes

The riff is aweomse, it could use a scratch or something similar at the end. Perhaps similar to the one in Crazy Train? I was half expecting it.
