Well if there not judging gameplay at all, this might as well just be a short story comp. Sorry, i think thats a bit stupid.

We ARE judging on Gameplay a little bit. Just not as much as a story. For Example:

Judging Points-

Story 50 Points
Gameplay 30 Points
Replay-ability 15 points
Custom Media 5 Points

So out of 100, Story would be worth 50 Points. That is not really our system, it's just an example, and remember this is for FULL games, not just a short game.

Well yes, I would like to
add then when I said replay-ability, stale gameplay wont get you
that. We are looking to judge gameplay as well as story. That might
be the two biggest factors. The least we are worried about with is
mind blowing graphics.

If you can pull of a game that looks good = Presentation
Plays very well and unique = Gameplay + Replay-Ability
Has a great story involved and is SHOWN more so then written,
then you're set.

Mind you that we don't care if you tell the story to us in a big
block of text. We wont read it. We want to see it lived out in a game. Tell us the
story through the GAME. Don't tell us a monologue and then throw
us into the game with no support to the story via characters or
matching enemies, environment, etc.

So, I mean, it should be obvious. If you just tell us a block of
text and leave the game empty of story, then you will probably lose.
It would be OKAY to maybe head up the level with a loading screen
with a bit of text here and there but we want you to tell us
whats going on during the game, first and foremost.

Beyond Life would be your biggest example.

I mean, I just don't want to play a demo of a game. I would like to have the complete story. Do you get what I mean?

@SilverCrow

Sorry, thats actually a very fair judging system. I just thought it might have been something like 80% story. But no, thats a great marking system.

Awe pooey, I looked at this and though, "Hey! I could try!" But then I saw the quality if everyone else's work, and I decided not to waste my time.
Besides I have a project in development that I don't want to rush, so sadly I'll pass.

Will this sort of stuff be happening again, for when I'm older and more seasoned with FPSC?

I agree, I don't see a problem with using Stock Media. Some of it looks great, if you showed it to someone from another forum they would probably want to use it. It's only people here that have seen it so much that don't want to use it.

I kept wanting to post here to say thanks for sponsoring such a great contest. You are to be commended.

: OFF TOPIC:

I tried a "script" contest a long time ago and it really didn't work out too well. I just didn't know how to conduct or manage a contest. The idea was good. However, because Hockeykid won he wasn't too displeased. He got a certain amount of store points. Because I mismanaged the contest I had to forgo the 2nd and 3rd prizes. I still feel sad about that. Just needed to lament my management failure. I'll stick to programming.

I reject your reality and substitute my own!

I wish id known about this earlier I'm making a game right now that has a good story and gameplay idea the worst thing is I spent the money i could have spent on fpscX10 on a game for the xbox around the time this comp started... but anyways the stuff looks great so far really hope that whoever wins there will be a load of games with good storys and gameplay out there afterwards.

edit: please! i beg you do another fpsc comp like this in the future cause although ive never entered a comp i would like to enter one of these.

Yeah... but I am more of a horror/action survival guy than... well, what you call a hadcore Halo fan? Sci-fi dude? Smelly nerd? But you get the idea. It's always like this for me. When a new game comes out and it looks interesting, I am destined to buy it, if it's a year, 2 years, or 5 years later, I'll get it. And the wait time, to have the money and the game in the same place, is one of the best times ever.

@DJ Almix: The only thing I have against your images, is the lighting entities themselves. The one in the second pic should be re-sized; it's too large for that room (and in general). None of them have illumination maps applied. They should be lit up all over the bulb...FPSC has the ability now, it should be utilized. The levels themselves look good though, and the level lighting is great.

Also; the standing light in the 4th picture is floating.

Can I ask what you intend to do with all these games? I mean do you plan to put them on your site for download etc? Not likely to manage a game before the deadline, but just interested.

Make everything look random, life is not symmetrical and don't use segments that are so symmetrical. Everyone always makes the mistake of using the same dimensions for everything. Rotate scenery ever so slightly on practically everything and keep things that would be straight in real life, straight. Or decide which layout you will use inside your room. this is what I see in typical FPS Creator Games:

Boring, bland and everything looks like it's been over cleaned. If those were in fps creator they would probably need some sideways crates, or random piles of crap in them. Then use a proper light source. Afterwords give it a little bit of asymmetry and make the piles of crap on both sides different.

As for symmetrical non-trash rooms, use uneven things! I can't stand it when I see a game with just walls and roofs that are regular. SPICE IT UP! Add something that isn't a full wall or make a ceiling that isn't just a cube. Take for example this room:

Notice the pillars actually have depth, the cubbie's are not a full wall. In an example: pipes, not all pipes should be the same size, try different sized pipes! Use these tactics and try to use reference pictures, I do this technique a lot.

Try to go from this:

so you saying that the world is trash full, well you are wrong, and so wrong it hurts, look at your house, its your house all random?

no, there is organization, there isnt a tv pointing to the wall, or chairs looking at nowhere

You, think all places are abandoned?
well, wrong again, all modern day buildings have almost no things on them whatsoever

even in abandoned places, Organization is still visible

here is an example

or if you want to go to game style
Silent hill 4
dont ask me why almost all my references always refer to Silent hill

Basicly, if a place has rubble all lying, it might be because of an explosion happened, or maybe they tried to remodelate it, and left all loose

I'm saying the world is set up like a pile of trash or it's not, it depends on the game you want to make. Do you want a pretty organized room, or do you want a trashed up room. And find the distinction between the to and construct a realistic looking room.

This room looks boring:

This room doesn't:
http://www.kmpfurniture.com/newsletters/modern-furniture-and-good-design-create-style_10.jpg[/img]

I'm not saying make the world look literally crappy, I'm saying don't make it look to organized by making it organized. Like in a sci-fi game, wouldn't you find it more interesting if you map wasn't this:

And was this:

Running through only straight corridors, and all same sized walls and all same sized ceilings, just with re-textures gets annoying doesn't it?

Take for example, this picture from HL2:

The center is symmetrical, but the outside is asymmetrical. It's a mind trick, when both sides look the same you don't get that same feeling of exploration, or discovery.[href]null[/href]

so you say that horror needs to be with trash all over the place?

no sir, play Condenmed, or play any game of that sort, Dead space, Cryostasis, almost all enviroments there are abandoned, but they arent with trash all the place

Fear is really clean too

Silent hill homecoming has crap all over the place, but that doesnt give horror, its the simetrical that makes it scary, why?

cause even if a map was too square you can spice it, witha hole, just like in the PD in Sheperd's Glen, in Silent Hill Homecoming

or in silent hill 2, the apartments

or in silent hill SM, the school

or in silent hill origins or zero, in the hospital

so basicly many games have clean enviroments, and are scary

and yea, im a fanatic of Silent hill, so what?

anyway, the room you putted first was 0/10, but the other ones where 1/10, they werent nice, they were cubes with 'crap' on them

i think that simetrical and that is made by textures and the use of them, some will give depth, some wont, some will give height, some will give you the feel of cold or warm depending on the room, also lights, so basicly, the entities are just a small portion inside what it comes to Horror Design

PD: Play silent hill 1-7

and youill get me
