I'm going to have to pull out. My computer's playing up and I can't test any of my levels at the moment. I might be able to get it sorted soon enough, maybe not. Doubt I'd have much chance against the people in the competition anyway.

How do we submit our level to you?
Do we just put it in an attachment?

The usual way; nothing special. Just upload your level to megaupload, mediafire, etc, and then provide a link to the download server here.

Okay Kraven. I started composing the first song . I'm planning to do 2-5 songs depending on how much time and inspiration I have.

I also like to try new things and increase the size of my portfolio, so I'm offering one free exclusive custom song for the winner. This means that the person describes me what kind of song he/she wants, and I make the song just like the customer wants

@Juzi, sounds great. I'll add your contribution to the prize list. Thanks!

@anayar, thanks. And thanks for the donation! I'll add it to the list.

@everyone else, just over a month to go. Plenty of time to come up with something good.

Awesome Kraven! You named the prize a bit misleadingly though. I am more specialized in music rather than sound FX, so could you change it to "music composition"

i have decided to do a abandoned warehouse, working on custom content. Story is done as well and so far i like it.

Question: can we share the story or should we just keep everything bottled up?

I barely stopped drool from coming out of my mouth when
I saw those segment prizes. And I just decided I wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't at least try.

Add me to the list!

Bump. 3 weeks left to go.

Thought it might also be worth a mention that I'm using this competition to see whether or not participation is high enough to host them on a regular basis. If there aren't many or no entries submitted, then I'll probably hold off on hosting another competition for awhile (at least until FPSC can promise a stable build so entries can be submiteed)
.

i would probably join any comps. although i only really join comps that have rather easy generic themes such as: war, scifi, horror etc. none of this level design for my brain. xD

If so, I'm in. I'm new at this but I believe I can do this to win those extra prizes I need for my future games.

Ok, I know this is horribly off topic, but when I click on DarkJames' link, the top part of the TGC forums page comes up and below it a text saying "Nice try" is displayed. Weird.

Only today and tommorow to go. Haven't received any entries yet. If there is only one entry submitted, that person will automatically win the prizes, so there's really nothing to lose.

As I mentioned a week or so ago, I'm using this competition to see whether or not participation is high enough to make this a normal or monthly challenge with new and bigger prizes offered each time. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this one took off, so it may be some time before I host another one.

I would like to know, however, if people just aren't interested in the actual contest idea, or if FPS Creator is just giving them troubles to build their levels, etc. In which case I can either wait until 1.18(?) has been stablized, or come up with a new idea for a future monthly forum competion. Maybe one that runs a bit faster, like the screenshot competitions? Otherwise, I'll probably just drop the competition thing for awhile, altogether.

I would say its a bit of all worlds combined, Fpsc currently not stable (Depending on ver the user uses), Time constraints (Exams) etc. I love these compo's, And hope to see it keep going.

i wouldnt have a problem joining with builds or anything. Just that i dont really like themes like this. straight forward themes are what interest me. eg: horror, scifi, post apoc etc etc.

if comps have theme like that id be more than happy to join.

I will upload mine today

Edit: I have upladed it now, here is the download http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KZBH6EKU

And here is a backstory because otherwise you wouldn't get anything.

Quote: "One week ago the town you live in was invaded by something, all radio and TV brodcast's went down in a few hours. Just before that you heard that the part of the town that you live in will be one of the last to be evacuated. On the day after the invasion the streets were completley ocupied by the "aliens". In the night the same day someting came out of space and destroyed your house. In the chaos you ran out on the streets, you barley made it out alive.

Just before they killed you, you got into a abandoned house. There you have stayed for the last week, preparing for a evacuation.

Today you got waked by some sound from the radio, you heard that the evacuation had begun and that evryone shuld get to the rooftops and mark their position in some way. You had prepared for this by building a light on the roof wich could be activated."

I didn't manage to get the winzone working but you shuld complete the game once you pull the lever on the roof...

I find the idea of a pure level comp (no story, ne enemies, just level design) very interesting and I would have thought a bunch of people to enter, because modern/rundown/abandoned is about 50% of all playable games&demos people here create Actually I thought, that you picked the most crowd-pleasing theme imaginable...

Personally I just cant afford the time to build a level that I'm not planning to us in a game.

But don't let this dishearten you. Most comps barely scratch 3-5 serious entries together and with 1.18 beta and Cosmics new community pack there is probably a lot of creative energy used elsewhere.

In case you find my grammar and spelling weird ---> native German speaker ^^

@darkjames What's happening when you try to build, do you get any error message.
Try to delete the folder that you try to build to, that helped me when the build crashed.

@kravenwolf like the storyteller said i think a lot of effort is going into the community pack and thet 1.18 is preventing people from building there games. Dont give up on this comp, try and start one more cop cefore you decide not to start an other!

BTW am i the only one who have submitted my entry?

Here is my entry

Dead Lock

Description:

This level takes place present day in a Warehouse, now what this warehouse is storing is up to you to look closely and find out

Story(just so the game makes more sense):

You have just been hired for a job at this warehouse, Its your first day at your new job and when you arrive the sign on the warehouse looks like it is covering up an old faded sign which at the time is unreadable. After entering the old rotting building you notice that you are the only employee there. The gate behind you slams shut trapping you in the courtyard of the abandoned warehouse. Without even thinking about your new job, you just focus on getting that gate open and getting out!

I am about 85% done with my entry for this competition. My job made me work overtime, so I couldn't dedicate all my time to the competition in one day.

I am almost done. I'll send my entry to you by the deadline.

Do we have to have a brief synopsis for the level?

Thanks for a great competition.

It's good to see a few last-day entries. There's still over 11 hours in the day, in case there's anyone else working on finishing up their entry.

@King Cobra, no, you don't need to have a story/background. This is a level design competition, so I won't be looking at the story/plotline when judging.

Thanks for the feeback, guys. I think I will keep some form of community competition running on a regular basis, however I'm probably going to reconsider the theme. It seems that a level design competetion deterred some participants because of the amount of effort involved; which they couldn't afford to spare being tied up with other things. I'll start up a competition within the next week or so, only this one will run a bit faster as mentioned. Something similar to the screenshot competitions, for example.
