hi there, i am new to the forums - would like to know who are the regulars here, what fights (hopefully none) are going on here so i don't tread on anyones toes.
a little bout myself - a newbie to dark basic and 3d game maker.
i have been using this prog called game maker for a little while for making 2d arcade games, but i feel i would like to expand a tad further to 3d type games.
i am toaster obsessed if u happen to stumble over my creative site - i just happen to be a big fan of red dwarf character Talkie Toaster. so most of my collection of games (2 completed to date and one in progress at mo')
well thats the end of my ramblings. so plz tell me a bit bout urselves

I am obsessed by Toasters - especially talking ones...bizaare really isn't it?

Welcome. I'll actually answer your question, I think, as I can't be arsed to be a smart alex tonight.

I'm a semi-regular. I have spurts (wayheyhey) of being on the forum, chatting sh*t to people, before disappearing again when walter hits the fan. Not really actively using db at the moment, as I'm too busy.

People of interest

Raven: Certain hate him becuase he's blunt, to the point, and stuborn. Month back he and Simple had huge flame wars. Now days he hasn't done anything wrong, yet many people (especially from our sister forum) still hate him. Ponit of adivice, don't believe what anyone sayes, make your own opinion.

Geri: No longer here, he's become a sort of Forum Legend to those who joined between June and September. All he did was mouth off about piracty, make completetly senceless post (you had to read for half an hour to understand it, even thought it was only 5 words long), and act like a fool. The newer forum members, who had never seen real trolls (aka Shadow Robert, Sourmon), instantly lacked on to him and for a solid month, everything in the General Talk section had at least a referance to Geri. I tell you this now so you don't have ask quiestions later.

Indi: A Mod, fairly conservitive. He's forgiving as long as you don't post something stupid (aka, anything dealing with piracy or stuff not for children)

Rob K: Another Mod, like Indi except he's more likely to get invovled when he sees somthing that could turn into a flamewar

RPGamer: Another Mod, this guy is always monitering the Team Request boards. Long ago it was very hellish in there, now we have rule posted, though few weill actually read them. If you're gonna post a request there, read the rules first.

Rich: Forum Master, the big cheese, his posts are far and few between. He's pretty friendly as long as you don't do or say dumb stuff (aka supporting piracy and the like)

One last tip, don't directly link pic bigger than 800x600.

That was neither simple, refreshing, nor a post.

No one hates Raven. Well, no one that matters. Raven is a godsend to those looking for help.

Hehe, welcome newbie (insert magnamanous voice).

It's been pretty quiet recently because a lot of regulars are working on alienware competition entries, so the sensible ones are all spending more time coding etc. Wait till the end of the year at the deadlines and judging, then you'll see a lot of anxious coders with rings like chewed oranges .

Arrow, quick question - You do know that Raven is/was Shadow Robert don't you?

Yes, Shadow Robert used Raven's old handles in a cheap attemtp to make him look bad, he even gave a poor review or Darkbasic on Cnet.com and trying to make us beleave the real Raven wrote it. The guy was a complete spaz, anyone that disagreed with him had there e-mail bombarded with gay porn spam, considering the amount he must've visted those kinda sites alot.

Quote: "No one hates Raven. Well, no one that matters. Raven is a godsend to those looking for help."
Very true, the only ones left that really hate him are noobies that have only heard rumors. Basicly, after a week or so of reading the forums you'll get a pretty good idea of who actually know what they're talking about.

Right, and you're the one to judge .

I don't think anybody should waste their time hating anybody on these forums. It's all words.

I find it very difficult to hate anyone online, someone would have to really p**s me off to get a rise outta me these days. Hehe, for some reason I'm reminded of Eric Cartman saying ''I would'nt kill anyone, not unless they p****d me off!''.

I reckon I missed the Shadow troll guy, sounds like a few people who've stumbled across this forum mind you - could have been anyone, like that guy who kept posting the sick anus picture .

I reckon it's a bit daft to say that anyone who dislikes Raven is a newbie who knows nothing, I can see a couple of oldbies being a bit peeved at that!.

I don't Hate raven(you)... I just dislike some of the things he(you) says (especially in the thread entitled "Game Music Compo" [or something to that liking..])

I also dislike how alot of flamewars revolve around him(you), not all, about 30% of them though.

I mean i don't doubt him(you) as a modeller, he(you) does some damn good models.

(Hopes this post dosen't get taken the wrong way.... as i click the mouse... "Post Message Button has 4 HP left at end of round 3, youm have 10HP)

sides i only lay into those who've been here long enough and should know better ... you make me sound like someone who goes around just being all judgemental and crap, when i barely even bother in sections other than general anymore because hardly any of you can handle my crits of your stuff. Always whinged about it, and when i help ya'll somehow you feel like you had to hunt me down even if i'm offline and ask for my advice on everything - if TGC start paying me a salary to help ya'll out 24/7 then fine, until then i ain't everyones problem lacky.

even after taking up by my puffymail contact info down, i'm still haunted by people

thanx ppl - i am sure i am going have lots of fun reading these forums.
i am probably the only person on here who uses game maker - this is due to me not being much code orientated at the mo' so i am using these type of packages to help me along as i tend to be more of a arty person and prefer modelling my own characters for games and stuff.
Altho i am willing to learn coding eventually as i want to make my first 3d game - i have the idea and some characters to use - just need to find suitable packages to help me do this.

hehee... it's already i think my Ex and her family hate me enough.
i'm sure i'm the only guy in the world to have people dislike me so much that they not only take the car from outside of my house in the UK, but they crush it into a cube and then send me a tonne of polaroids of it.

atleast it's nice to know they still think of me alot, even if it isn't happy thoughts

wow what caring ppl you have there Raven lol
now thats a totally originalish idea - mind i bet my bf wished he done it to that vauxhall vectra he had on tick once. now that would be funny.
the story is that he got this p reg vectra on tick, the company who he was repaying the money back to ripped him off - they charged double the money (300 quid instead of 150 - we found this out after they took the car off him for being one month behind) - not only this - the car was falling apart in ridiculous ways - if that car had an mot check - then the bloke who done it was blind!
anyway cuuting a long story short - they reprossed the car off him, altho he had paid well over half the asked price for it and had it for 1 1/2 yrs. then they had the true cheek to ask for the rest of the money he owned them after they took the car off him.
funny enuff - they suddenly stopped pestering him when one secretary thought he was paying 150 quid a month and let it slip that he should've been..... my bf would claim back his car and money - but the fool lost the paperwork when we moved houses
anyhow - wouldn't it have been funny - on the day they tried to reprossess the car - they find a crushed up cube instead? now i would've loved to seen them guys faces!

^_^ i know my peeps all share the love, but 5mins with me and you'd probably understand why.

i've had a few mates get hooked into scums like that pulled by work, often isn't an accident they're just trying to get more money for something thats worthless to them ... and sadly alot of us just can't be bothered to argue about something so we'll let it slide and hope it corrects itself.
Which is no doubt what you bf would've done if they hadn't tried to reclaim the car eh

one thing to ripp people off, another to ripps us off and they become an indian giver

Hi there. Just letting you know that I also like toasters, although mine doesnt talk.

(P.S. I dont actually own a toaster, but I do have one of those toasted sandwich makers, which if you think about it is better, but it doesnt talk.)

Concerning 3DGM, I did buy it but rarely used it. Too limiting. In fact its still taking up 800meg of my hard drive. Bah.

Nice to see a female game making person on the forums, quite rare is that

tbh nick i've only just recently noticed ... i can't remember if i'd just forgotten or not, but i could've sworn you used to have 'user' underneath your name only like 2weeks ago.

but i'm probably just loosing my marbles - 'tis the old age setting in hahaa

and Maya ain't hard, maya's fun man ^_^ it's got a simplistic way to develop, it's just got an insanely complex UI for no good reason other than to make available all 480 tools within such a small space.

yea, I got a friend who's obbsesed with Maya, but u should see how he treats modellers. One day he would call me and get so excited saying "YESS I GOT LIGHTWave!" and then uses it for a week and forgets it, then the same process begins for 3ds max, 3d canvas pro, terrage, CoralBryce, softimage and he will get bored with maya soon enough

(unless its as fun as u say )
