noah's ark....

it was a terrible doom clone where you are noah on the ark and you have to feed your animals till they go to sleep.

also, T.I.M was amazingly innovative for its time and hasn't been mentioned

my crash Bandicoot disc got damaged. It crashed on the last level. Never actually clocked it. same thing happened with resident evil nemesis. and tony hawk....

and damn, so many of my play station game discs died. I love the digital age. everything is recoverable. no just "oh well, better luck next game."

what about killer instinct, it wasn't as good as mortal kombat but was still pretty decent.

lawn mower man for SNES was awesome too, loved that game.

there was a NES game called Gryzor trainer that me and my friend loved and played to death. It was a side scroller shoot em up.

Has anyone else ever played In the Hunt?
Old scool super fun submarine sidescroller for PS1. It was as japanese as they come.

Everything was recoverable beforehand too - but it was illegal...

I got really into the GameCube version (Wonderful Life) - it's worth owning a GameCube for - that game has so much depth it's unreal, and the characters are great. I especially liked the little hobo dude.

Gamecube for me would be Mario Party. I have them all. I must have spent £350 on them.

I have the GameCube Harvest Moon and can't figure it out! My little dude kept getting hungry and I never had things to feed him. He kept complaining all day!

My favorite games growing up we're the classic Sierra and LucasArts adventure games. Me personal bests are Space Quest and Day of the Tentacle, all of which I still play to this day!

Gabriel Knight was another great Sierra adventure game, though I didn't actually play a lot of it. But yes, I agree, they were some pretty awesome titles. I did love Day of the Tentacle as well, I remember you having the avatar for quite a long time here. Sadly, I can't remember what I did with all those floppy disks.

I've always wanted to make one and I did start one a few years back in DBP (Shadow Behind the Leaves), but as always with my projects, it was never finished. Also tried a Monkey Island like one waaaaaay back when I was a wee kid playing with The Games Factory.

There was one I remember that was made in Multimedia Fusion, it wasn't half bad, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called, pretty sure it had a reference to alcohol. It was done in the style of MI3.

Oh yes, that was a great game. I used to play Populous: The Beginning on our old Playstation and it's on GoG, so I might be tempted to buy it again. One of the best God-sims I've ever played. I have been playing Age of Empires recently and arguably, they're nothing in comparison, at least IMO. Though AoE is still pretty awesome.

Lufia, the original Breath of Fire, Shining Force

classic MMOs: Asheron's Call 1, Dark Age of Camelot.

I know: rpg, rpg, rpg

how about Pilotwings, Captain Skyhawk, Rad Racer, Top Gear 3000, Double Dragon, Nibbles

Mario Paint? complete with a mouse for the snes! and a wonky music section

Boogerman (Sega) (Apparently released on SNES too??)
I still remember the first time I played it as a kid. It was shocking in its own way but once you got past the lavatorial nature of the game and into the second area, you realised it was quite a challenging little game, especially the mountain area.

Just remembered Uridium on the C64. The reason it was impressive was that it created colours impossible on the C64. I watched it with these bright golds, and luminescent reds, and thought.. "How did he do that?" Well, the programmer quickly flashed colours between each other. Unfortunately, you can't capture it in a screenshot.

Theme Hospital shows how good Bullfrog were at making games. That game should have been dull as dishwater.

And it was co-founded by Peter Molyneux. Populous has already been mentioned, but that was another great game of theirs. In fact they had quite a few decent games. Though according to Wiki, Molyneux left just before Theme Hospital.

The company I worked for merged with Bullfrog. I just looked them up to see how they are getting on. Vancouver Film School's seems to be where some ended up teaching. And another guy works on Pop Videos (Kylie Minogue for one), and mobile games.

Robozone was going to be a puppet animation like Thunderbirds, but never got the sponsorship, so ended up as a game with no movie. I watched the first movie example though, and it was good. That was the best thing about working on movie conversions, you get to see them before they are released.

The most famous game in the list is R-type2. I suppose that Predator 2 is well known as well, but just as a movie.

I've heard of R-Type. However the only game I've played out of that list was Bart vs The Space Mutants. Arguably one of the better Simpson games out there. A classic.

Still, that's a pretty resume.

You should download MAME if you missed the early games. Get Rtype2, and Dragon Breed. It's not exactly piracy anymore being as the cabinets are no longer in production.

@ Thraxas I love that game too.

anyways on the pc i would say Baulder's Gate was my first exposure to RPG and Hexen was my first experience on FPS afterwards it was Duke Nuken 3D. Strategy was Populous.

I feel your pain. It's like when my niece said she had never heard of Aliens I'm feeling very old. End it now cruel world!

Heh, then again I named a stray cat Horace the other day and gave it some food as it was starving. My wife totally got the link. Love her! Then again her family used to love playing Mikro-Gen (Pyjamarama?) games on the Speccy years ago as the company used to be next to Woolworths in her home town. Ah, lovely C90 tinted Speccy days...

Cheers

There was a magazine out just a few years ago, and it had the top 100 games of all time in it, and Rtype2 was about No 68. That was pretty good. I only worked on the Amiga version, but I think that it was a list of home games, so that would be the Amiga version.

The original one (Enemy Unknown) and Terror from the Deep were the best. What made them cool was the completely destructible map and also the atmosphere.

There was nothing quite as cool as moving a soldier around a corner to see an enemy. You'd crack off a load of shots but not manage to take him down and all your time units were taken up. He was definitely toast on the alien's turn. That is until you used the rest of the squad to open fire, even though they have no line of fire. Lobbing grenade over roves, blasting holes through walls, often exposing another alien hidden away, then taking him down.

New games came out and lost the unit progression, completely did away with the destructible terrain and dumbing down the base building and top level strategy. I'm not sure what the new one is like, but from a quick look at the videos it seems to be more about the presentation and less about the core mechanics that made the original one mega.

Even by today's standard I think you could play the original and really enjoy it if you like your strategy games.

Edit: Oh, also the originals had completely randomized maps so no battle was the same. Apparently not so in the new one.

thanks for the insight! Me thinks GOG may have the originals ^^ might check them later, got a dinner meet up shortly...

I like the idea of time units, I think it could always be reintroduced, I recall another game that pulled off this technique properly, I like how you could... oh hang on, I think I may have played them or one of them, maybe a demo... will check GOG anyway unless someone beats me to it ^^
