My vote:

Weekdays - Continue with current map, plain vanilla
Weekends - Factions mod with new map

I feel like a separate map for pvp would ruin the whole idea. I thought the point was that during the week we would build castles and epic structures, then at weekends fight on them.

I think we should start with a new map and use it for both building and pvp. Could you set up a starter kit of some stone tools? Just so people don't have to do that first part of punching trees, making a one-use wooden pick and mining three cobble. It's such a tedious and pointless part of the game.

I don't know about server commands, but there's some really interesting stuff we can do with command blocks now. We might be able to do some cool stuff for battles, like capture points for example. Oh and you can set teams in vanilla now.

I agree that more than two teams/factions would be good, but that would leave us with pretty small teams. However, I think it would make things interesting if people were able to conspire against their leaders and/or fight for independence.

Me and some friends are playing feed the beast online. It's like tekkit but up to date and the developers have permission from the individual mod developers to put the mods in the pack...

Well - primarily "mods that makes the game harder"
But otherwise, anything that might expand upon the game would be nice - really anything might interest us

If you want something realy hard, look into the ultra hardcore mod. It removes the health regen and replaces the gold nuggets in golden apples with ingots

You have? I thought everything was lost in the crash? I haven't been on since actually.

Hmm, I suppose we could keep the map if the faction without a base is given some starting materials and food.

I had no intention to remove the existing map.

Ok, wilderbeast, here's the idea I mentioned...

In a server a friend of mine had, we decided to create certain hidden "temples" that teleported a player from one temple to the next. The general idea was to make it the "hub" of spawn, and players could choose which biomes to teleport to, in order to start building. But we took it a step further, and realized we could make sort of an adventure out of it. Unfortunately, we never finished it, but I'm sure the idea would be pretty fun to implement!

We didn't lose anything in the crash. It did crash again just now.

Melan's farm tower disappeared so I assumed everything had gone.

@Yoda
That sounds pretty cool but very different from what we've been discussing. Certainly would beat letting people teleport directly to their base, that kills a lot of the game and people just stay hidden in their own bases.

I don't like the idea of people teleporting around on battle days though. I like the idea of castles being far apart, so we have to plan out a route and build camps along the way before reaching the castle and attacking it. We could even end up building roads between towns to make the travel faster, and maybe use them for trade but they would be prime targets for ambushes. There's loads more strategy involved that way, you might for example plant a huge dense forest next to your base so that it's hard to get through and full of monsters; or booby trap routes you think the enemy might take.

Man, I wish you couldn't carry 500 tonnes of items in MC, that really takes away a lot of the logistics of it. Is there a way to reduce the inventory capacity and give pigs with saddles some inventory capacity? That would be amazing.

Are we going to have a unified theme for the server? Like mediaeval or modern day or post-apocalyptic or ancient Greece or whatever? Or are we going to free-ball it?

Hmm that is annoying - it seems my resize operation didn't go through. Anyway, the server is back up with double RAM - shouldn't be any more crashes. Backups are taken every other day, but I'd still advise that you don't build anything too amazing as it's still experiencing 'growing pains'.

Sorry about the downtime.

Creepers... creepers everywhere....

Seriously, did Mojang make creepers spawn more rapidly around a player now? Because there sure does seem to be a lot...

Wilderbeast, can you please turn off mob griefing on non-PvP days? Because this is just getting ridiculous. There is creepers literally everywhere and it's just getting annoying. I know it's kinda cheating but then again, we're not trying to fight against mobs, we are just building structures

So, the weekend is upon us, and Factions needs to happen! The a fresh map has been created (don't worry, the old one is still around!) and thus it's time to separate into your teams and start building.

I haven't gotten round to sorting out permissions yet so you can't start your own factions - so I've created Red and Blue teams which you can join for the time being (obviously they can be renamed later). If you want to start your own faction then message me and I can create it for you for the time being.

Have fun!

EDIT: Ok, so join Dawn (Red) or Blue and start building!

This has been copied from my login page which logs in successfully
I have version 1.5.2

your original whitelist post lists it correctly spelled.

this is my mojang login. Is there anywhere else where you set your multiplayer username?
this is puzzling.

Just a tip to anyone building a base, when you do /f sethome, make sure you have a small bit of empty area below that spot, as there is bug which upon using /f home, actually teleports you below the block you did /f sethome on, which could potentially choke you, and it's just annoying.
