I know it could result in much lower score, but out of curiosity, are we allowed to enter a priced game?

We can't change the rules at this stage, and to be honest I'm not sure TGC would have been as keen to provide a nice prize if products that could be bought elsewhere were used.

However, the main idea of this competition is to get people producing something. If you want to use this competition as an incentive, then anything you create will get featured in the newsletter, just not eligible for the prize. You'll also get the encouragement from everyone else making similar games at the same time.

I suspect anything is enough to be in the competition If it's seriously incomplete or if there's major issues, it simply won't win.

Found time to get something going. Once a get my friend to do some gfx, I may actually be able to post something. And to think, I thought I'd have plenty of time for this. Wonder if I can actually pull off the portability part though.

Same here, Clonkex! I should be done with my other project in a couple of days though, which means a week in real-time... Then it should only take a couple of weeks to finish my entry properly... which probably means 5 weeks in real-time... Damn, I have a feeling I might be a little too late

@batvink,
I took out the ratios for the 3d and it seems to be displaying perfectly now, so many thanks for that, was a great help. Never tried 3d before so wasn't sure.

Just done my second to last update, which took way way too long, but then like others I have to go back to my proper game so will leave this in its less than impressive state.

Good luck though to whomever wins it.... I'm not betting on Swipe It at this early stage AT ALL.

Many, many thanks to Naphier for his cool AppGameKit advertising code. I have thought about the whole advertising scene and believe that people playing games will respond to 'other game advertising' much more positively than ads such as 'insurance' or 'junk'.
I truly believe if we support in-house ads in our games that we will get much better circulation of our games into new buyers hands.
Also, Naphier is very, very helpful and deserves at a minimum our attention to his great idea.

If I only had the time...

Oh man, I might finally be converted. Not for the compo, though, I've put a lot of work into the DBP version already.

Great idea giving AppGameKit away in my opinion, assuming it's V1. I can't view that page here. I'll check it out tonight from my hotel room...

As it includes DBPro, any device is allowed. For mobile games, we'll need to put down some clear guidelines in the next week or two for you.

I have a high-end Android phone (Nexus), and Blackberry Playbook* and Kindle Fire HD. I also have a touchscreen laptop* and touchscreen table PC* for touch-enabled games. The table PC runs Android too. I can sideload APK files on my phone. I believe our judge Naphier has iOS devices but I'll check in with him for more details.

As a minimum, games can be submitted in PC version, although I realise that gameplay may make this an inferior option on non-touch PCs. We'll update with a full plan shortly.

*Three of these devices were won using AppGameKit and DarkBASIC Professional

Sounds like you have good coverage.

Mine will work on both Windows and Android, but the game plays better on Android. Can we state a preference for the judges?

Mine will still be in DBP but will be ported to Android & co. fairly shortly thanks to my acquisition of AppGameKit (doubt I'll have it done before closing). I can't disclose it yet but the gameplay mechanics should earn me some kudos (though I dunno how much since it isn't in line with the official "extra kudos"). I'll upload something as soon as I have some graphics (I'm going to strangle me bff slowly if he doesn't come through with those animations).

Just wanted to note that I will be making the AppGameKit Community Network available to folks using DBPro in the next 2 weeks.

I'm having difficultly finding time to make changes on the server and to review the DBPro code that BMacZero was kind enough to write.
It will be done by April 15th, but it might be really close to that date.

The code is easy to implement. AppGameKit users won't need to change anything to their code unless they want to show Windows and Mac app ads.

I can't wait to start playing some of these games!

Also I just noticed that I never posted about what devices I have!
Shame on me!

I have Nexus 5, Nexus 7, HTC Droid Incredible 2, iPhone 3GS, and Windows 7 PCs. No touch PCs, sorry
If you are making the game for iOS exclusively I'd highly suggest that you include high quality screen shots and a FRAPS video to show how the game actually looks because the 3GS has the worst resolution I've ever seen

Firstly: Thanks Naphier and BMacZero for your work in making this available to DBP users. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's grateful.
Secondly: This happened with the second ADG comp too; life. Literally I was simply overburdened and couldn't even enter. Well looks like that'll happen here too. Work is just piling up suddenly so I'll likely present something incomplete by the end of this. I will finish it, even if it's only a demo, and I will ultimately complete the full game at some point. Right now, I'm going to have to focus on my other two projects and, obviously, work.

Remember that simplicity is being rewarded in this competition, you don't need to make the biggest, bestest, baddest game ever.

There will be more details about submitting your entry in today's newsletter.

Hi guys,

I join this competition!

My entry game is called Super Footie Pocket Edition. It's some kind of spin-off of a larger project of mine. The goal of the game is to run as long as you can and pass all opposing players by kicking the ball over them.

I'm developing this in App Game Kit. Unfortunatly I missed the Free Offer deadline without noticing, so I have to use the trial version...

I will open a Work In Progress thread soon. Attached is some early prototype footage.

Good luck to all!

No real gameplay right now.
The idea is to blow stuff up, buildings, tank, maybe planes by clicking/tapping on them. Then swiping or clicking/tapping on the people to beam them up. The ufo can either be controlled by the player or left to just hover around by itself.

Made with AppGameKit, Blender and photoshop
A lot more left to do just need to find time. Would like to release free for pc, iOS, android, with ads

21 days to go!

It's good to see more people still coming into the competition with new ideas.

As there are one or two completed games already, the submission thread has been created.
If you have any questions regarding submission, please come back to this thread to ask them, not in the submission thread.

So I scrapped my original project because I don't have time to finish it (it wasn't that elaborate but certain aspects were). Anyways, I'll be entering my Plan B, inspired by a Famicom game from my childhood. I wanted to name it Journey but the web says that's taken. Basic demo to follow soon.

Glad to see you are back in the competition. Ched80 has just proved that you don't need the full 8 weeks to fulfill the criteria of "simple game", he's just submitted his finished game.

I'm really excited by the number of entries!
All of these are looking great!
I can't wait to start playing some of them!

Looks like I'm really going to have to set aside time to play through all of these. Great!

PS - Working on a pretty fat update for AppGameKit Community Ad Network right now to let Windows and Mac apps show up in ads (if you turn it on). Plus Mobiius made it so that the library is 100% self-contained. And BMacZero has provided me with a DBPro library!

I hope to have everything tested and ready for you all tomorrow.
In the meantime, don't hesitate to start an account and upload ads for your mobile apps!

The new API is up! You can now use it for Windows/Mac apps too
The DBPro API should be available on the site soon.

Make sure to use your own API key when your app is live.
I'm now recording stats so I can show you some more interesting numbers later.

Here's more info and some exciting notes about Chartboost
