I would hazard a guess at 'Lords Of Midnight', a brilliant game.

I even have a very limited edition Lords Of Midnight T-Shirt that I won in a compo together with PC version of game. Nice!

Hmmm. Dunno. Bit blank on C64 games really. Birds and the bees perhaps?

And of course it was LOM! Easy one.

Ok, one of my favourites here : You fly a plane only a few feet off the ground. Thats basically it. Ish. C'mon.....

Cheers

TLL? (Tornado Low Level). You had to collect little black dots on this massive level (massive in spectrum terms) - I'd always spash into buildings when turning - that was an incredibly difficult little game.

Personally I always prefered Cyclone (a helicopter rescuing little dudes stuck on islands from this badass cyclone), that was definately the inspiration for the Desert Strike series.

Heres another old Atari one...

- Was a movie liscence
- Probably one of the best co-operative games ever

See if you can get it with just those two...

There were a couple of games by Atari/Tengen that were co-op, I'm thinking Xybots, but then that's not even a movie!

I'm a huge co-op game fan though, so I'm thinking that your thinking about SmashTV, even though that's not a movie licence either. Ocean software had all the major movie tie-ins IIRC - Atari always had the worst luck with licences (like with Tetris ).

Yeah, the Goonies, however the Goonies game on the C64 was definately not co-op, was berely even playable.

Nah, I'm stumped! - wanna try out the game though.

Yes it was the Goonies, well done. On the Atari it was fantastic - me and my dad played it for ages and got to the big skull level - whereas in his day my dad completed it with a friend of his.

The rabbit's name is Usagi Yojimbo and stars in a game called Samurai Warrior

Had to do a bit of googling to find that rather obscure answer.

Just had a quick play of it and it is a load of rubbish.

Ok, here's one:
One of the very very first games to let you play as a dragon, a green dragon and it was a horizontal scroller with little dudes throwing spears at you. You have to burn them with your fiery breath.

It was a great game but fairly obscure.

Hmm. Seemed a lot better 15 years ago or so. Doesn't he also kill himself if he doesn't bow to good people? Seem to remember that..... Top character mind, and there is quite a cult following.

Dragon game was Thanatos. Class game. ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/games-adverts/t/Thanatos.jpg

Obscure? Easy man....

Ok, you were a magiciany type bloke, with a cloak. You couldn't see your face in the hood if I remember rightly. Also you were a big sprite graphic and walked around in Tir Na Nog fashion. Which is another clue BTW. Was also one of my favourite names for a game.

Erm!!!! - I know the game because I remember being dazzled by the sheer size of the sprite and the cool graphics - but I'm damned if I can remember the name. Something like Magik or Colour of Magic or something magiccy!

Thanatos was class and I'm very peeved that you got it so quickly!, I had forgotten the name and only recently found a rom file.

As for best game name, well what could possibly beat Operation Invasion Evasion!.

C'mon Van, you nearly have it. Tir Na Nog is a BIG hint (more than just looks)....

Best game name? What about that Ninja Hamster game? Or the Ninja Scooter Simulator... Oh yes, rubbish games with the word "Ninja" in them rocked...

Ok, probably the biggest game ever not released (as in it won't be, rather than in a Duke Nukem forever still being made kinda way). Practically is Speccy royalty when it comes to games. Much like King Arthur or something. And the big clue is it has a massive link to Goldeneye N64.

Well Ultimate Play The Game were huge on the Spectrum, they made Jetpac among other classics. They're Rare now .

The name 'Might and Magik' popped into my head yesterday, is that it?

I wanna guess it without looking it up (I'd know it if I'd seen it).

Ohh! - you won't get this one Dazzag...

Arguably the worlds first role playing game, share's a name very similar to a Jim Henson movie and the author also wrote a book about adventure game creation on the Spectrum. Lotsa clues but the game is old, even in speccy terms. I playtested it .

Gargoyle made Tir Na Nog. They also made the other game. And it's not Might and Magik.

Mire Mare was the other one. Basically Ultimate play the game (Rare) made it as the last Sabre Man game. Think there was a link to it at the end of Underworlde. Apparently was lost when they were bought (US gold was it?), and is rumoured to be like 99% complete in someones cupboard or something. Would be like the ultimate (no pun) speccy treasure even if you somehow had a C90 copy of it or something.

Hmmm. Got me on that one. RPGs have never been my thing. Avoid them like the plague. The only one I can remember from way back then is Bards tale. But then that wasn't that old. And a Jim Henson movie? Grief... erm... Dark Castle? (bit like Dark Crystal). Seems to ring a bell.... Hmmm... adventure game creation? Not the one with a dragon on the cover? Or was it a book about writing in PAW, Quill, or one of those other efforts (I had PAW, was class, and even the plasticy box looked like a book). More clues please.

Cheers

Yeah I had PAW for Spectrum +3 on floppy disk. It was brilliant. I thought of doing a similar thing in DBPro but got nightmares over all the work involved and gave up.

I don't know any Jim Henson movies other than the Dark Crystal (I remember seeing that at the cinema!), a few mupppet movies and fraggle rock, but don't think that got further than a tv series.

Ach. The ST version was superior. Loved that game. Oh, and Stunt car racer of course.

Ok, one of the best horizontal shoot-em-ups. Grudgingly admit the C64 version was better than the Speccy version, which was still tops. Had cute homing missiles. Another top name too.

Ohh, Stunt Car, I remember dragging my poor old ST over to my mates house every weekend and playing head-to-head through the null modem port - awesome game, Geoff Grammond is the man.

The game was Black Crystal by Roy Carnell, the book had a waterfall and an eyeball on the cover and was written for Speccy Basic. Roy Carnell was my neighbor when I was a lad.

I'm thinking of Blood Money for Dazzags latest one.

Ach. Got the right film though.....

Erm, my Speccy claim to fame is I met Jeff Minter once. Although I didn't know it at the time, and was very drunk. Also, a friend of mine got a game put on the front of one of the speccy magazines.

Tis not Blood money. Thought that was a ST and Amiga only game? Think older. And much much more famous.

Ok, bigger clues to the horizontal shooter.... you didn't just go in one direction; you could double back and scroll to the left too. Erm, and it was viewed from above, rather than the more used sideways look. So thats Zynaps out of the window then. That was a good game too... so many....

Um, I met Ruth Maddock once... erm....

I got an engine working, the scrolling, jumping, and collision. Just didn't feel like making the data map at the moment. It's a big boring bunch of squares, and I wasn't in the mood for it. If anyone wants to make the Data map, I'll insert it. It's 32*32. Otherwise, I'll get round to it later.
