I'll be back later tonite/tommorrow; i dunno.
Just got home from work (yeah RichS that is something some of us do to earn money )

Quite frankly after the last two days i deserve a damn entire keg of guiness ^_^; but anyways i'm off to my girls cause i really need to relax.

as for the game ... Fred needs to have previews of the levels by saturday as he might have some possible freelance work for me (and right now i'm too broke to say no); So this weekend-ish.
Honestly speaking withing the GI, i don't like the cabin which is the only area i've had time to finish.

I would also like it if someone who is good at creating texture maps could offer thier services; as this is what is slowing me down right now. I'm crap at making texture maps, already has darth tinkering away at a WYSIWYG Material (Shader) Editor similar to Unreal2/3

you know technically your not the only guys waiting for this; thought admitidly your the only ones waiting for just screenshots.
Oh, and anyone want to volenteer thier webpage services; I need a website for this stuff ... Have a very definate idea in my head.

Anyone who is wondering why this is taking so long;
I've been working on the models, levels, textures, shaders, website, etc... just me; you think you can work faster than me then you can go right ahead and prove it - otherwise pipedown and wait like good lil boys.

Remember i'm creating this artwork at two levels; Game Model (>8,000 polygons/character) and Normal Map Models (Largest so far has been 42,000,000 polygons) ... i DON'T have some sorta Kray super computer here; So generating the normal maps takes time.

To give you a general idea,
200,000 -> 20,000 (my dawn model) in Melody, takes around 45minutes! This is going over time because of things like this.
Unless someone is going to offer me something better than an Athlon64 FX-51 (OC 2.5GHz) to compile on

anyways, i'm off to see my girl and i don't expect to be back until tommorrow afternoon; that's at the earliest.

Uhuh. Sure.

If this was a major Hollywood production, Raven would be the not-so-subtle comic relief

On the topic of the showcase (that Raven never actually did)...

Picho, looks pretty cool. Any details about what kind of game it'll be? I can only really tell it looks like an interesting platformer ... And btw, is it really going to run in a screen res around that low, or did you just scale it down 'cuz the placeholder gfx were small?

Edit-- Couldn't avoid comenting on this gem.

The story is about Victorian London, and solving the case of Jack The Ripper. It has a lot of real historic events in it, and a lot of make believe as well. Most of the locations are real locations in London in 1888. The characters are real people. It is full of celebrities, and teaches you stuff about the Victorians. It has a lot of puzzle solving situations. The puzzles are fun, and not brainstormingly difficult. The graphics are semi-realistic cartoon style. The music is composed by Carla of Melodrift.com, and sounds like a film track. She is a professional singer.

The screen res is 800*600. The image is 3 full screen pictures reduced to fit on the screen. The image is also very badly scaled, because it is a test screen. The Public House is a scaled up photo at the moment, and its pixels are about 6 pixels above normal size. So once rendered as a 3D model, it will look much nicer than that.

Anyway, thanks for the comments Mouse!

didn't matter anyway really, the extra hour wouldn't have helped Raven anyway.

I would normally say this thread was going downhill fast, but it brightens my day so

Pincho-> Neat idea! The side-scrolling persective should give it a really neat (and nostalgic) feel. Hard to imagine it in 3d but I'm sure it'll be quite well done. Looking forward to it

3D rendered just means that the shadows will all be in the right places, and the textures will wrap around objects correctly.

Well it's all called marketing strategy ... well that's what Lombardi calls it anyways

This is just a major f**k up on my part of how long it was gonna take me to do things. I never thought i'd end up spending an entire week on the main character alone ... and i'm STILL not happy with her face!!
Kinda getting on my nerves actually cause i've got her body pretty damn nice; her clothes are working quite well especially with the physics, but her damn face looks like she's been battered with a 10lb lump mallet

Although I'm fairly sure I could show off just the world at this point, all it has in it are the dogs (std doberman things), trees and the cabin.
Really I guess it's upto you ppl if you just want some pure eye candy of the world, or some actual in-game shots.

I mean if you look at Unreal 3 on the UnrealTechnology site; although they're showing off what the engine can do, really there aren't any in-game shots .. so you have no idea what it's about.
Half-Life 2 on the other hand there is nothing but in-game shots; they're not showing off optimised technology (scripted maybe but not optimised) so your seeing it's scenes in a real-game environment.

@Jimmy: Yeah some webspace would be cool for uploading trailers and demos until puffy can get his host sorted.

I know you guys are probably either dieing to flame me to a cinder for not showing anything yet; but this is a case of
'it'll be done when it's done'

as i've mentioned money is kinda tight so as Fred (Sir Manfred, old user), offered me a possible freelance job; really right now i can't afford to not take it.

however all considering this doesn't actually change the fact I still need to make a website; else this is going to take 10x longer.
Raven + Multi-Tasking = Exponencial Development Time

i am far quicker working as part of a team lol

We already have. And furthermore, if that's what it is, why did you say there were screenshots and a playable demo eight days ago? You said you were in the middle of uploading them and showed people a URL to watch in a number of hours. Where did those screenshots go, Raven? Where did that demo go? Did the FBI steal them from your hard drive? Or aliens maybe?

Good grief this is getting ridiculous

You might've but there are a good number of people who haven't; either your going to wait for what i have to show or your just in here to cause trouble. For someone who said you were going to show me up on friday and show something of your own your being awefully loud considering I see nothing from you.
Suppose those aliens got your Hard Disk too?

Actually 8 days ago I said i had screenshots, that i was going to try and put a video together; and 'perhaps' get a working multiplayer demo done for Friday (the one just gone not the one 8days ago).

Some members knew the original game to showcased was Half-Life Zero; only problem is although the pictures are up, i'm not allowed to show them yet.
So i've been working on Deliverance, a Sub-Story; i'm yet to decide if it'll be related but basically i've been spending several hr's a night after work getting levels and characters done.

Something outside of the world of mouse that might surprise you is that some of us use low-polygon and template models and worlds just to test features of the engine suchas physics, ai, graphics effects, etc... in-engine before putting together everything.
Although trying to get it out for E3 Friday was a lil optimistic on my part, but honestly i don't care; It'll be out when i feel it is ready to be out - end of story.

Anyone else notice that all of Raven's post are about the same length? A couple of them anyhow...

I can see where you're coming from Raven boy. I was given a project at work and they're like "Think you can have it done by tomorrow night?" And I was like "Yeah, I probably can" Long story short, that was 2 weeks ago Ahhh, good thing they aren't paying me enough and they know it I'm like getting a BMW Roadster for the price of a Kia Sephia.

AAANNNNYYway, good luck man, hope to see something sexy soon.

hahaa, BMW Roadster... sweet
been showing some screenshots of the new Louise i think i'm upto rework 5 now to Crystal (not sure if she's on the forum), and it seems to be approved of.

That is literally all i've been doing the past 6hrs, working on this one model. Just can't get the face how i want it and it is really getting frustrating now.
Finally bugged a friend into helping me finish the concept for the docks area; as i've done a little but i need the entire area done - so far i have literally a rickety old dock and a small 2man fishing row-boat.

Thinks are comming along; but slowly.
I'm hoping by mid-day i'll have Louise done, dusted and ready for export... though i don't look forward to rigging.

She's also comming in alot lower vertex/tris count... my original version was 8,750 tris; which would run her original 6 Shader Materials at roughly 50fps; i've since stripped her down to a mear 2,400 tris without any real noticeably drop in quality, the speed i've gained will hopefully allow me to do her hair as a pure shader rather than the current 'plains' setup.
But we'll see. Still can't get the damn Global Illumination working either (hense why i was using Defered Shadowing), there are a number of DBP limitations which I can't figure any way around.

Your attempting realtime global illumination? Is it baked or faked in any way? Because the only game i have ever seen to decently fake it was a motorcycle game and they had there own weird way of doing it. You might try to find the book: "Advanced Global Illumination" by Philip Dutre, Philippe Bekaert, and Kavita Bala. Not a bad read.

Oki, well I'll see about rendering a runtime of my Physics Editor to show you the physics outside of the game.

reason being I don't want to spoil the in-game effect.
the novelty of it will wear off very quick as you'll not notice it as much the more you see it in action;

There are 2 Physics Systems in place right now.
Standard CPU Physics, this is used for Skeletal Animation, Interaction, General World Physics.
Optimised GPU Physics, this controls the clothes, hair and fluid effects.

As I was explaining in the IRC room a few days ago, something in this engine you WILL NOT see in any other game; probably not for a long time is the interactive fluid effects.
These fluids are capable of running along ANY given surface in the game... so if someone shoots a guy infront of you, the blood will splurt backwards and drip down your character; some of it will then become part of the 'dirty' map, which means you'll have some blood stains until you can change your clothes or have a wash.

This might seem like a useless feature, but as my brother is working on AI that works with Sound, Scent, Vision and Vibration; allowing for some interesting varations on enemies, some like Dog will track you based on your smell - so something like oil will be extremely noticeable to them.

I am really looking forward to how much depth we can take this game to, rather than purely making this about graphics.
Although yeah, personally I want it to look gorgeous (who doesn't); I know that for the system specs that are being aimed at, can't possible hope to have everything I want or to the level I want it.

Currently the 800MHz/GFFX5200/256MB version looks very very different to the 2.5GHz/GF6800U/1GB version. You'd expect it to, but unfortunately having the 6800 has allowed my to let my imagination run wild.
(hense the ever growing work and ever longer progression to the next step which i feel it is ready to show)

I'll be keeping everyone updated to what i'm working on via my signature; Right now I am actually looking into recruiting members of the community to help out, some have already been contacted via email. Hopefully this won't be a case of 'Oh Raven is just hyping us up again' ... I actually give a damn about this project and want it out in the open ASAP!

Yawn.

Raven, I very clearly said I was not going to post anything for this event, but might have something in the next 6 months . Please read your source material before constructing an argument.

The posts are amusing enough to read, but I've had my laugh at waiting for precisely nothing to come out dead on schedule, and that's that-- I'm sure that within a few weeks Raven will pretend none of this ever happened and start another all new groundbreakingly amazing project. Perhaps it'll still be funny the next time around... perhaps not.

I've seen some of Raven's work before on various projects. Whether it's some 3D models, code snippets(A while back he posted a vertex shader I believe.), and some other things.

Although I haven't seen any of his work on this project(as far as screenshots), I have some faith in him. (I also have an idea about what this project is about )
