btw- if ur wondering what im on about, heres the story in brief of what happened last re-election:

news networks: Al Gore has won the elections
fox news (run by some relative of bush): bush has won (they were also saying this before half the votes had even been counted)
all other news networks (after not wanting to be seen as wrong since fox put it so definate): Sorry, Bush has won
al gore: Dam
Bush: mwahahahaha

edit: corrected the script

Bush won legally. The electoral college favored him, that's the end of it. It's ironic-- the hope Kerry was hanging onto at the end was that he'd get more electoral votes, meaning he'd "steal" the election in the same way Bush did. Aren't political lies fun ?

Froogle, this is pointless. This has nothing to do with Fox. It has everything to do with Kerry conceding. Fox reporting it didn't magically make it happen. Kerry lost. Fair and square. That's the end of it.

Quote: "I cant even begin to fathom with Ohio being as close as it is why they (Kerry) wouldn't fight this tooth and nail to the bitter death,"

I think there is a simple answer to that - Kerry is over 130,000 votes behind in Ohio, and of the thus far uncounted ballots, he would need a very high percentage to win - which just isn't going to happen.

Contrast that with Florida where Al Gore was only 500 votes behind Bush in a tally of over 2 million for each side. Despite the controversy, the 2000 election was much closer than the 2004 one.

I think its a sad day for the world, but.... "Always look on the bright side of life <whistle> ..."

Ah... hidden irony... how subtle.

Back on topic.
Living in Europe I'm mostly concerned about how this election will affect the global economy. While hardly anyone could predict how it would work out with Kerry, I'm really worried for the future seeing the previous 4 years.

He conceeded to Bush, it's not a "count the numbers" thing anymore. When you conceed, you conceed.

I like the way Kerry told Bush in his phone call that the country was just "too divided" (and Bush agrees).

Goorf - get onto the BBC web site and listen to the World Service, it'll explain a lot.

empty-> Way I see it, it has to go up from here. Bush could afford to screw up in his first term, but if the right is to retain any credibility, he's gonna have to mend fences in the second. The global economy has been going uphill for the past while too, hasn't it?

I'm curious - why does everyone say things like "Bush has to improve the economy" (etc) - I mean isn't it down to an absolute sht-load of staff, advisors, ... Bush surely isn't the one drawing up the financial proposals, etc? So the real question is - who's really in charge of decision making? (this isn't me trying to stir anything, I am genuinely asking the questions, feel answer them in a "US politics 101" manner).

The Senate, and it's the Vice President who is elected President of the Senate. So that would mean the Vice President has more power than the President himself, when it comes to law and the constitution!

Presumably what everyone means is "the republican party" when they talk about "Bush's policies". In America it seems that they place far more emphasis on individuals than we do.

Can Bush spell Veto, it has more than 3 letters?

Besides, it would take him all night to find Veto on a map.

I don't want to start anything; I'd just like to offer a genuine compliment to Kerry. We (including all y'all Liberals here) were all expecting him to make a fuss about it, reminiscent of the 2000 election. I'm very impressed with the way that he's handled this. That's all that I wanted to say.

Good idea, though we can't just invade them like that. How about we say they have WMD? We might be able to go somebody to rustle up some 'photos' of WMD on photoshop, and we're away.

Wow.

I'm absolutely astonished.

Who would have ever though half the populate of the land of the free could be so blinded by propoganda as to vote Bush in for a second term.

I am truely shocked. My first reaction is to be fearful for the rest of the world, but seeing as Bush has blown record amounts of cash on the Iraq war, America cannot afford another war for at least 5 years.

It's funny, but there's lots of us in the UK who think the whole world should be able to vote for the next american president, because it effects foriegn countries as well, and we are the only ones that aren't blinded by the pure propoganda that oozes from the american media. Even in the UK we have to dig deeper to get past the smoke screen of the BBC.

Wow. Still stunned.

It's a day of celebration for Republicans. A greater majority in the senate. A greater majority in the House. And the U.S. Presidency, with the potential for Supreme Court vacancies and filling them conservatively.

It's a great victory for conservative morality and economics. Hurrah!

I've been impressed by the grace of concession of some boards around and that's what's needed here - not the juvenalia, doom and gloom, and way out there stuff is flying a bit thick. One of the reasons the Democrats lost is that this stuff is in fact, fantasy. Kerry lost, he's conceding, get over it, and try to not look like a sore loser.

Time to look at your navel, stop the blame game and figure out if you're a Democrat -why- you lost without blaming it on other people.

The economy is good. The draft is a fictional dream. You run on issues that aren't real, no matter how much media favors you, you lose. Inside as well as out.

The stock market rises on news of a Bush victory, got jittery at the idea Kerry would win. Who knows the economy better than the people who make it go?

One of my favorite moments of the night was reading the BBC News site's front page noting the results for '51 states including Puerto Rico'. Yeah. Haha! 51 indeed.

I really don't see anything that could be described as a "slightly optimistic outlook".

Obviously not in the USA. Plus there are more than enough reasons to dislike Bush, or the to be more precise the Bush administration (love and hate are so "inflationary words" these days )

Mouse is correct in saying it's "cool" to Bush bash. The same goes for here in Canada. It is my general consensus that most Canadians hate Bush, too. It doesn't help the fact that we're incredibly liberal.

Now watch it unfold as critics blame Nader for stealing votes from the Democrats (as predicted by celebrity left-wing nuttists Michael Moore and Jon Stewart among others).

I don't figure it really matters in the long run. Bush is going to do a good job in '04-'08 and restore at least some respect to the USA... there's always going to be some of the hate there, but it doesn't need a reason, it never has. People have never needed logic to cry imperialist, totalitarian warmongers, if that's what they want to do. There is cause for concern in rational people today, but I trust Bush will dispel it... if not, we are in trouble .

Haha

It's definitely cool to hate Bush. I would have liked to have seen the looks on Eminem's and P Diddy's faces when Kerry conceded. They got their 20,000,000 but got pwned by Bush. So sad.

Think Moore will lose pounds over it?
