Cool video VanB, though if there's one problem I have with it, it's the bright blood. Shouldn't it be darker?

Eitherway, looks great.

Cheers,

Yeah you can shoot the head, arms and legs off - they bleed from their wounds too, check the screenie.

Thanks guys, the helicopters blow up quite nicely, but you only get 30 secs, I'll see if I can record another one. Here's a screenie of the helicopter attacking A-Team style .

Preston, Yeah, I agree - I'm thinking that the best bet would be a alpha transparency image, so it won't loose it's colour.

At 640x480 I get about 50fps usually, that's with full quality textures though.

There's still lots to do with it, but I'm trying to get it finished as soon as.

Here's another vid, taking out a helicopter this time (edited).
http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/van-b-software/Lonewolf_Helifight.mpg

I'm adding Hummers as well.

I get a 404

Looks really cool - I especially like the helicopter! Is the movement scripted, or does it attack its own way?

Gee wiz, you ought to buy the full version of Fraps. I did.

Anyways, the first part of the video seemed a bit iffy, but the limbs thing was pretty cool. Only thing is, the limbs just disappear instead of flying off. It's still looking pretty good, though.

That's looking really awesome Van B. Top stuff, and it looks like there's some good gameplay involved as well.

Another project to keep an eye on. Can't wait to see this progress!

Cheers .

DavidT, They start off outside the level and fly towards their target, then choose a different target when they get there. If they spot you, the make you their target and start swooping in with their guns - a bit like the heli's in the A-Team. There's 6 of them, but I plan to make them appear more gradually, like a hurry up warning. They also tell the enemies on the ground where you are.

Monkey, For some reason I can't swap the textures on the enemies, but I'm gonna look into detail mapping to show limb damage where needed, and also adding spare limbs that bounce off. The limbs are too easy to remove though, I'll probably change that so it's saved for frags and shotgun bullets.

Uberwigget, It is quite tricky to kill a helicopter with an uzi, you gotta go for the engine . You can be really wyley and cause them to smash into each other though, stoopid pilots.

It is quite fun, and the AI is not bad for now but needs some bugs ironed out. I have another 2 levels but they're waiting on me adding hummers, which will follow a waypoint route but can drop off enemies and shoot you with a roof mounted M60. I have to add more enemies and weapons as well, but the AI system I have for the ground troops means I can basically swap out a weapon in CharacterFX and adjust the animations, and he'll be able to aim the weapon without any coding at all. It's quite cool to see 32 enemies surrounding you with their guns pointed at your face, then taking off all their heads because I haven't added player damage yet .

It would be nice to see the helicopter turn into a Newton object and really tumble from the sky.

Looks like fun to play though.

Especially if you get to take on multiple helis in a Humvee.

That looks really good! Can't wait for a demo But I think the helicopter needs to actually fly apart in broken pieces and not just sink into the ground with some flames up around it. Other than that looks GREAT!

It is pretty easy for me to change how it explodes, how would you imagine it would blow up?

I will be adding spare limbs, so I'll see about adding some debris too.

I changed the blood particles to a dark ghosted version that flattens to the ground when it lands, it looks sick!.

Most of the media is from limefly - I've gotten extremely lazy and textured the buildings in a way that affords decent detail, so it's mostly just tileable textures.

Tommorow (today when I've sobered up), I plan to twist the heli and make a limbed version with bit's that can break off when it explodes, a bit like jetman's death in Jetpac2003, except better .

David's working on Merceneries2, but the gameplay should be very different, mercs reminds me of the Delta Force games whereas Lonewolf is more simple and violent.

Merc 2 is for you average person who plays Quake and wants a deathmatch. Van B's game looks alot more varied - and probably will be more detailed.

However, I'll be wrapping up Merc 2 soon.. watch out for something new coming soon
