What's a fight tism?

Anyhoo, if you liked them, then you'll love these . I'm just adding different material decals, like when you shoot glass it'll have a glass decal, should be pretty cool.

@Van-B

Is BucketHead shooting at your foot in the image for the bullet decal?

And in the second image, the last time I shot a Uzi, I went through the entire clip in 3 seconds. I like your ammo rate a lot better!

Excellent images thou. Keep up the exciting work!

P.S.
Sorry, everytime I see a terrorist in a ski mask, I think of that kid from Fat Albert with what looks like a lamp shade on his head and two eye holes. It's not good when your in the USA and someone mentions hooded terrorist and I start laughing...

Hehe, good old ski masks. I can't model faces very well at all, need lots of practice so I opted for the easy option.

The enemies aim real low when your too close to them, it's a bit of a pain but I'm thinking of ways to avoid it, it all stems from the otherwise cool aiming on the enemies. I have a melee attack on the enemies that'll probably come into play again.

I was born and raised in Alaska and it dawned on me when I was young when you would see people on TV (we had 6 channels back then) holding up a bank wearing a ski mask.....

WE ALL WORE SKI MASKS in Alaska, even when we entered the bank. I would hate to be a security guard there.

[EDIT]
Have the BucketHeads aim for the Root Node, which is the Pelvis or Torso. Or aim for the (Player Position) + (Player Height * .66) Units in the Y direction.

they are an aussie band, they always wear masks over their heads and costumes too. secret identities. but usually its a balaclava, which is why i said you fight tism, and which is why i always use the tism as my clantag in counterstrike and only play balaclava models.

VanB > one of the coolest touches I remember in a game was in the first Soldier of Fortune. Naturally, under enemy fire you could hear bullets hitting objects around you, ricochet's etc... but if the bullets came a little too close for comfort they made this kick ass swooshing sound as they flew past your ears I've probably still got a few of the original sample rips if you're interested ...

Adr,
I'd rather not use media from that - but it's an awesome idea - I'm planning on having unique spot effects, like when you shoot steel it make a little spark, so a little ricochet sound effect would be great (the shotgun would sound awesome). I'm thinking off getting away from 3D sounds and using a simpler sound engine, but with my bullet handling, it should be a breeze to check if a bullet whizzed past - in fact the enemies just miss you a lot of the time when they're running towards you, should be cool. I could have ricocheting bullets too, but I don't know yet - it could hit a little group of barrels and ricochet a single bullet forever!. Maybe set it so a bullet will only ricochet if the return angle is not too extreme (I hate when you hit a wall straight on and take the ricochet in the face).

EDIT:
What sort of decal would I use for a ricochet bullet?

Currently, my decal for steel is a standard lead flower thing, so that denotes a ruined bullet - what would I use when the bullet ricochets though, a scuff mark?, maybe a little dent?. I'll have the current decal for when the bullet is done though.

instead of a circular hole have like a small line of smear*, so it looks like a dent, or maybe just have a circular dent.

Uber,
Yeah, I think I know what you mean, sorta like a rough scrape - should be easy enough, I'll probably have a little dent with a scrape comming off it.

Matt,
Cheers - they're particles really, I use sparky's collision .dll which will take any 2 coords and check collision between them, and even return the normals and deflection vectors, so adding those decals was a case of hijacking the particle system to add a static particle at the returned location and angles. The collision .dll actually comes with a basic decal demo, so it was all added in about half an hour. The decal textures are alpha layered .png's, it gives a nice subtle look to them which kinda affects the look of the underlying texture rather than a typical sprite decal. Those decals shown are for buildings, the steel decals are different - I'll try and show all the different types of decails in 1 screenie later.

I'm afraid there will be blood splatter decals too, if you take off an enemies head and it bounces off the wall behind him, it'll leave a stain .

LOL!

I'm not really a psycho - well scratch that, I suppose I am, but I'm not dangerous . I'm actually thinking of keeping track of how many litres of blood you've set free, sorta like an EA game - I'll be keeping track of headshots anyway, so I might as well have a stat's list with as many irrelevant stat's as I can count.

You know that bit in Kill Bill, where she slaughters all those followers of the ali-mcbeal woman? - and she's like ''You may go now, but take nothing with you, anything I've chopped off is mine'' - it's sorta like that when you have a big battle then come back, there's heads, legs, arms, and often bit's of chopper littered around. I'm making a death pit to test my frags, like a trap to put in a load of enemies, then throw in some grenades and pretend your making popcorn .

I do have a bit of a problem, I'm not just posting to expunge these sick thoughts that occur to me... When shooting the uzi at close range, it's targetting is off, or rather it's targetting is perfect and the illusion is off. The bullets will fly straight towards the reticule, perfectly - but when somethings only a foot from your face and you shoot it - the reticule is a million miles away from where the bullet lands. I'm thinking that I'll calculate the real destination point and show that, which is fine - but it won't tell the story when aiming at enemies. Anyone got a suggestion that does'nt involve reanimating my weapons?.

Ahh that's her name, I remember her in Charlies Angels, although I thought Drew was the cutest out of them all, the only one not dangerously skinny . In Kill Bill, the cutest one was Chiaki Kuriyama - Lucy's bodyguard.

VanB - I just checked out your videos on my new broadband connection. To put it bluntly - that puts anything I've ever made to shame

I am really, truly, amazed at the profesional quality of the game - and you seem to add new features every day, on demand! Definately the best graphics and quality I've seen in a DBPRO game.
Your music is on the way, double priority

I'm still working on the 2 player aspect of Dumbo & Cool - causing a lot of problems, and I think I'm simply going to drop it all together and focus on a stronger single player game. Sorry if I sounded a bit ratty in the e-mail I sent recently - just tired feckless...

Keep working on this one!

Enders,
Not at all, I modelled that about a month ago.

Saberdude,
I use CharacterFX, it's really easy to learn - mesh deform animation scared the hell outta me before I experimented with it.

Drew,
Cheers - I did'nt think you sounded ratty at all, looking forward to hearing the tune. I think you should stick with dumbo and cool - let me take a look over that source and I'll see if I can level out the frame rate - from my tinkerings 2 player is already very smooth, let me add timer based movement and then decide if you want to progress with it?. It'd be a shame if you dropped the 2-player idea, the switching between split screen and single player at the press of a key is awesome - that alone makes it unique and people (especially kids) will really like that.

There will be a disclaimer, and definately the option to turn off gore (gibs and blood) and also change the level of blood, because sometimes it can look like a slaughterhouse - esp with the blood decals as well.

Enders,
Who the hell do you think you are? - if you check the post dates of Chimera's shotgun, you'll see that a screenshot of it was posted on the 23rd - the post date of my shotgun is the 4th. Do the math.

In fact, here's a comparison - now the textured render is not available, but that's the faceted view in white of Chimera's shotgun, mine is above that. My shotgun is 490 faces, Chimera's is 629.

Chimera did'nt even upload his model.

Need I go on.

I think the reason they look similar is because they're both modelled to look like the same thing... a shotgun.

jeeezus, its a bloody shotgun, there are way over 100 fps games, professional, indi or whatever with the same type of shotgun! Just because they look vaguely alike doesnt give YOU the right to accuse someone of ripping work. When you base parts of your games on real world elements like weapons, chances are its going to look like someone elses model because that other guys model will be based on the same or similar real world reference.

@vanb: very awesome! really cant wait till the release, if you need any help with 3d models, textures or whatever (only if its non commercial/shareware, i use the student version of 3dsmax so theres licence issues there..) let me know. BTW the link to the video is down.

EDIT: nvm found the right link, all i can say is wow thats just beautiful i really like the hud effects when you get hit by a bullet

Enders,
Again with this shit?

My model and the one you posted are real shotguns, you can see both our shotguns in the attached picture. I've never played much counter strike, and that was the first shotgun I liked the look of from a google search.

Quote: " I F*%^%ing did not say it was CHIMERAS! I said Darkwolf or something!"

Well seeing as how you came into my thread and accused me of ripping someones work without proof, I thought I'd do the sensible thing look for whatever shotguns had been posted in 3D Discussion, and Darkwolfs wasn't there.

See the thing is - I don't really have to explain myself to you, if your gonna keep this crap up in this or anyone else thread then you'll be dealt with. Enough already.

Others,
Quite a while yet, I tend not to do demos, just finished games.

actually i woulda said thanks for using the power you have after being an expereinced db user for what 5+ years now, i am so foolish as to think someone who is adequately skilled to make such games and media would all of a sudden decide to rip a gun from cs purely on the grounds that it looks the same, i guess i should stop my campaign to ban small pizza takeaway shops from making their food on the grounds that it resembles the pizza i have seen in italy.

In what way exactly have I exploited my mod powers Enders?, by warning you?
You seem to like throwing accusations around when people have done nothing, so this should be good - maybe I'm just copying DavidT because he has mod powers too.

''i apologized, i said no offence''
Did you?, must have missed that.

It's going through a collision overhaul at the minute, trying to get sparky's collision working for the player collision, and started on a neat enemy collision system that will cost virtually nothing in terms of speed but will allow for much better AI (I'm expecting a nice speed boost after adding it, means a lot less collision checking you see).

Yeah, I made the middle one, there were higher res shots of the shotgun detail on that site, so it was very usefull - I think Darkwolf used the same site though.
