This is just not funny. I have reinstalled the operating system this morning, thinking I had a virus that I couldn't track down.

Looks like I won't be around for a while, Dark Basic is not very high on list of things to reinstall.

First thing to do when your browsing goes amiss is to check the address bar. Rich didn't disguise that it was a TGC-hosted fake google (g.php). Plus all other sites would work fine. Reinstalling the OS seems a wee bit overreactive to me

I just got in now - it 6:17 pm over here, and I tried to get on at school - when it went to google I almost got banned 'coz we are strictly not allowed to use google (Luckily the librarian was on the other side of the room).

Last night I was looking up at the stars and said "Where the hell is my roof?!"

Hehe, good one.

The best and most elaborate one I've seen was when a national paper ran the story that The Proclaimers are not related, and one of them had surgery to look like the other one (as if you'd pay to look like a scots geek). The best thing about these though, is that some people are stupid enough, my dad always falls for them regardless of how incredible they are.

Almost every indie/mod development team has either posted a cease & desist email telling them to shut down or claimed they've been hired by some games company and are going to work on the next Half-Life 3 or whatever. Unfortunately, no matter how many of these you read, people still manage to fall for them, even after being told it's a joke!

Ha ha ha - I was expecting something April Foolsish;
I searched once to see what would happen and then clicked on "I don't like April Fools Day".

The DB pyramid gave it away instantly, I had April 1st on my mind when I went to the forums anway.

Made me laugh anyways...

This definately falls into that catrgory of "How to be a complete b'astard". This definately falls into 2nd place. First place being the bomb disposal pic if anybody's ever seen it.

Anyway, very funny

OK...so nobody fell for my puny, futile attempt at retaliation.

I have to say in my defence that playing dumb technophobe in places like PC World is an enjoyable experience, and my attempt here just proves that anyone who knows actually knows what they are talking about doesn't fall for it.

Try going into PC World, saying you need a PC "just for word processing", and see what they try to sell you. Then starting playing stupid, and asking why you need a 256 Meg graphics card and 250 Meg hard drive for word processing.

Anyways, my home page was google, and I went to the forums bookmark... And I'm still at google... then I saw DBP pyramid, and thought hermm... Free advertising?

Then I compared the two pages with some Tom Jones in the background playing.

And I clicked teh evil button.

Now, WE DANCE!!!

I was working last night around midnight and needed to get to the forum. Needless to say it took me about 4 attempts to figure it out.

Strangely enough the nagging thought of "why is the DB logo on the goggle site", was in the back of my mind after attempt 2!

This was an outstanding prank!

it took me one, 'cause i instantly saw the DBP pyramid and thought, "Oh, an april fools joke." of course, it helps that i am rather conscious of april fools day, due to the fact that it is my birthday.

Heh. I fell for it. I admit it. So there. Me stoopid. But I've had problems with the PC today (nice excuse, eh?) and had to do a reinstall of Windows.

Not getting to TGC was just one more little thing in a long chain of things...
