i started COB ages ago, and it messed up, the system sucked. Ive restarted recently from scratch, and am giving a more agile and cartoony approach to gameplay with more flexible animations, jumping and the ability to pull self up on ledges...

Dunno... its just people usually comment on the graphics, and glitches i already know are there... and say what i SHOULD do...

modelled a gun (this is MY world, MY creations, so dont complain that it doesnt look like a traditional gun)

making party members too, and hopefully onto a future online mode with Benjamins online dll (if im allowed to use it), GO BENJAMIN!!!

Heh, the characters are dark, and heartless, so dark clothing. Plus they will dive about like the matrix... minus the slow motion and overexagerated moves and you got THIS game

and yes, all the characters in this screeny look the same, im still working on the other characters... some neo-ninja and some girl

Sounds good, the cartoony look (did you say you wanted that at some point?) would match comic stuff with action

temporary set up field to test in

got the dual arms working correctly, and they can lock to, and follow the enemy whist you click the left or right mouse buttons to shoot either hand also improved some animations

Looks like the game's going to be very awesome.

How will you control the camera- does it just follow the player, does it turn with the mouse, or does it work some completely different way?

Also having a gun in each hand that can fire seperately sounds very usefull and very cool. Does it mean that you can reload one gun and still fire with the other?

yes! both arms fight seperately im gonna be adding 2-handed weapons too, and a load of melee weapons.

The weapon system will work from the numbers 1 to 5 on the keyboard, all being different combinations of weapons which you set in your field menu (when not in combat). This means you can do combinations like this:
1. sword and handgun
2. shotgun
3. handgun and handgun
4. nothing and handgun
5. sword and sword

players set the weapon combinations and then when in a battle, they can change between each weapon combination by pressing the corresponding number key. This makes it easier and faster to change between different dueled weapons im currently adding sword to gameplay, and then shotgun

Using melee wepons and ranged wepons at the same time sounds cool, but how would that work? Also, you say when in a battle... does this mean its an RPG of sorts??

Yes, think of GTAs killing adding to the likes of Final Fantasy, therell be a leveling up system too


im still working with different ways on the melee working, currently the best idea is have it so you cant use the other hand while using a melee weapon. but you can use it in the combo

e.g. sword and handgun = slash, thrust, slash down knocking enemy to ground, then front flip over enemy shooting down on them with handgun...

still getting idea perfected, will send screenies as soon as done also have to neaten up my code, its got messy and ive lacked rems the last week so its getting confusing

thanks for positive comments though

o, i was bored, and played good ol "state of emergency" for a bit of mindless slaughter... i guess thats how my combat system shall be based back on here tomorrowz bye

The game appears to be kicking arse, P-Gary. The code must be really complicated to do all of this stuff. I'm not a programmer so there is an air of mystery around code for me.

Looking forward to new screenshots and ahh hell, I will probably see COB when I come to your house on Saturday.

Need to get more music done too... For anybody who's interested on the music side of this game, every song will be original and good quality sound (OGG or MP3 or something, I dunno, I'd prefer OGG). There's one track done so far and a few other things that I did ages ago which are a bit naff.

stopping the camera going through walls? heres a piece of helper code:
lets say the character object is 1, and the camera object is 2 and the scenery is objects 1000 to 2000

this code is basic and simple, but im constantly improving through the code:


this codell make it zoom closer the the character if the camera collides with a wall
This piece of code is still buggy, but it works to some extent


update on COB, yay! motion blur and faster animations...

way he held the guns sucked... havent programmed much lately, been busy... unnoticably different










By the way, my musician, Sevish, says OGGS would be better to use than MP3s, does anyone have a link or something to somewhere i can download an OGG player for DBpro?

Anyways, next screenies will hopefully have people being shot in the streets, bullets and blood-filled damage...yay!

Thanks for the info, your using a different method to me. I use a ray casted behind the place to see if an object is in the way. But hey whatever works !...ive got heavy changes to make to mine anyway but level editor first !

its half the framerate of what it actually is by the way, it got slowed down when i recorded it

AWESOME. Is that a bullet-time sort of blurr on the hands moving up and down? I dunno, maybe it's just a bug in the recorder, but hey it looks cool Only thing I'd suggest is changing the color of the tracers--it's a little too yellow for my tastes, maybe a sort of white sheath around the yellow?

my level editor is completed.... no GUI at the mo, you press certain keys to perform certain actions, but anyway, its gonna be for staff only and probably have a public release in far future.

all objects are fully resizable and rotatable and can be placed in any location, then the player and NPC can also be placed down... gotta add landscape function at some point

And how do you go about making a video for people to see? I've never found out where I can do that...

Yeah use the Fraps demo, and then download 'Virtual Dub' for the commpression as it handles the sound well, I recommend DivX commpression myself. Oh and 'Virtual Dub' is free aswell which is always a plus !

finally got some free time to work on this... today just changed the combat engine to more RPG style, where you can equip one melee and one ranged weapon. I will post some screenies when i got an enemy modelled for me to take my anger out on. 1/2 term, lotsa programming to do

sorry for those rubbish screenies above, they are just the new models and stuff i done today, just making sure this thread dont lock from being too old

sorry to disapoint people, but the combat engine has been changed to more RPG style... so no more FPS style action

but anyways, ive got weapon fire and the first strike in the melee attack complete. check out the attached video for a show of the animations (just animation demo, nothing more)
