A really good start. Very rough, but it's all there and I enjoyed it!

Criticisms
Look into the camera. I'd move it out and up.
Faulty jumping and gravity
Slightly too slippery and slidy
Graphical style is very random; works in some places, but not in others - if you'd like a *small* hand with that, just ask.

What are you using for collision? I'll see if I can help you out with some of your problems if you'd like...

Zotoaster, I maked 2 sounds for you
They are in the attachment.. it is a selfextract archive..
They the Coin1 is wav and the Coin2 is mp3 (or reverse):
because I edited the mp3 and the editor only saves to
.wav And I have no converter..

anyway.. enjoy (if you like them, of course)

..:edited due too much misspelling :..

@Drew Cameron

Yeah, I agree with your critisisms, I'll fix them up quite soon, but here's a few questions about them:
I don't see anything wrong with the jumping.. is it because if you let go off the spacekey it drops straight back down?
Hmm, yeah, just noticed myself, the graphical style is random, are you talking about the "Danger" ones in the middle of a city? We'll these were actually ment to be for another level and I put them there just temporarlily and forgot to change them

Quote: "Looks like you found one ... sounds familiar..."

woah, you can actually hear it? I can't

and I'm using sparky's collision dll for the collision, I found a version for dbc somewhere, i'd be really glad if you could help me out

@louiz ofRohr

Thanks for the sounds very very cool! for catching the coins I think i'll use the second one, and use the first one for the end of the level

thanks alot

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't replied for ages, you must all've been thinking that I've given up, well I haven't, there just hasn't been anything new

I've started again with it (No don't worry, I'm not starting completelly from scratch, I'mm keeping all the files and stuff, and using most of my old code) It's just that the old code was WAY too messed up, for example, if I wanted to get to a new level I would have to check if I'm close to the end of one level and then do all the code from there, like changing models and positions and stuff. Now all I need to type is i.e. "Level=2", so you could go to random levels

[edit]

oh yeah, and I can make the enemies collide now so the game will be even better

[/edit]

[new thought]
maybe the levels should be random so the game is never the same!!
[/new thought]

beside, with the old one there were like 10 arrays that I wasnt using, and so much useless code in it.. now its all nice and fresh, and I'm almost done

I'm using this one and Newton (not for the same game )

Zotoaster.. you're doing a great work man.. I can see you're working and learning at
the same time.. this in a nice way to go..

First screenshot you posted I found it just a little bit cool..
now your work is going amazing

btw.. nice effect above.. I would rather use the black boundaries..
It looks much better for this game..

Keep bringing more info, ok?

Hey guys, I'm not gonna be replying for a short while because I'm moving this project to DBPro, but its for the best.. When I've got alot done I think I'll start a new thread.. It will all look much different.. my friend remade the textures, and I'm giving the X-ball cel-shading. But in the mean time give me any ideas you would think would be cool in the game

But don't start crying yet.. I am NOT stopping this project. No way josé. The thing is, I am moving it over to DBPro, and I need some time to get used to it. Besides, the game is starting to take a completely different shape. The first level is completely different.. and I am changing the looks to the main character (as you may have noticed from above..) The game needs some serious going over, you know, the kind of things you can't just go back and change..

Besides, this thread is full of crap now, too many old screenies, not enough new ones..

I'll get this thread locked and start a new one in a few months (maybe not even that long ) and it will be completely updated..

and now - Mods, lock this pLeAsE

P.S. I repeat - X-Ball is not getting flushed.

Sorry i cant download the thing , but it looks so cool , and your game has given me an idea , is it ok for me to make a game that is sort of inspired from yours ??

Ill take that as a yes , dont worry , is more than just collecting coins (only smaller levels)

PS : very offensive bmp few posts up ...

hey keemo.. I don't mind if you make something inspired by this, infact, I'm very happy that you like it that much

The coin thing... bah, no more of that, the coins have now turned into potato chips, and if you collect a whole bag of them you get an extra life heh..

Quote: "(only smaller levels)
"

lol, you cant really get much smaller than the first one

Quote: "PS : very offensive bmp few posts up ..."

hmm, now sure if you're being sarcastic or not.. but it doesn't matter anyway.. cos the game's gonna be full or swearing

but anyway. progress is going well with DBPro.. next time you see X-Ball it will rule!

The jumping is quite bad unless you want it like that in that case its great!

The height that you jump is determined on how long you press the spacekey, Itd add more difficulty if you jumped the same height no matter what right when you press the spacekey. But its your game.

Other than that its great awesome progress cant wait to see it done.

Yeah I think I'll make the jumping better, the only thing that's really really REALLY annoying me is the collision! It sucks sooo much!

I tried the download, and it's pretty cool. But I didn't like how it felt like you were on ice the whole time, and he could bounce on the water without getting hurt. I also had a problem where when trying to go up a slope when I didn’t bounce, and I fell right through it!! One more thing; considering he's a ball, wouldn't it make more sense if he rolled down when he was on a hill? I just think a game with a ball for the main character should have some interesting physics.
You may have already addressed some/all of those, but I thought I should mention it in case you hadn't.

@Bizar

well the icey feeling isn't like that, you go straight forward. The collision still sucks, I'm working on it. The physics, well it's all in the making...

@Drew

Not yet I stilld on't have the money to get NGC, and even if I did I can't get it on the net

Hmm, does newton work for collision? If so then I could have collison and physics..

Yeah, Newton works too for collision / physics all in one, but it's a smidge more complex.

Go for it though.

Grab the whole shebang in it's thread, there's a sticky somewhere I think in this forum, or program announcements - but you'll get a pack with lots of demos and documents.

Newton is like a massive complicated fluffy teddybear!, it takes a little getting used to, but once your cumfy it could'nt be better - it's like having a concearned buddy looking after collision and object reactions for you. Actually adding and enabling newton physics and collision is straightforward, like making rigid bodies for complicated meshes, and using primitives for simpler boxes etc - that's all fairly easy, and that's about as much as you need. Newton get's complicated when you mess with vehicles and joints. For your needs, you might be as well using ODE physics with v5.9 - should be simpler to use but I imagine you'll get the results you need from either system.

Found a bug, if you hold down the spacekey you can jump on the water forever without dying, even outside the map :

There is a ball demo that comes with newton, you have to roll the ball to the end.
