"Quikly 3d Model Pro" is a 3d modelling package specifically designed for making models for using in videogames. Its very easy to use, even for beginners and is designed to intergrate instantly with Dark Basic, Dark Basic Pro, and of course, Quikly 3d Games Studio Pro.

There are 2 versions available:

"Quikly 3d Model Pro"
This is the Full version. It is FREE when you purchase "Quikly Games Studio Pro" or available to purchase on its own for £9.99, around $17.49 US, or €14.99. This version is a boxed product with free worldwide delivery. People who purchase the standalone and decide to upgrade at a later date can request a reduced rate for Quikly Game Studio Pro.

"Quikly 3d Model Free"
This version is FREE for registered, non spamming users of either "TheGameCreators.com" or "Quikly.com" forums. It is the same as the full version but limited to 25 boxes, and 512x512 final texture. This version is download only, and can be requested from Quikly.com once you've been an active member of either forum for 30 days+

Demo:
The Latest Demo is available here:
http://www.quikly.com/modelpro/demo/modelpro101.rar
This demo has some features disabled, a new version coming very soon with them reimplemented Apologies for the slow loading times in this demo as explained in the WiP thread, these will be fixed soon. Ditto the fact you can only use 512x512 textures.

Cool Features I feel compelled to mention:
*.x Export - and these .x files load perfectly in dbpro first time
"Export Alternative Map" feature. Easily make multiple skins for models & swap them instantly in game. This could be used for:
*Adding damage to texture of vehicles or objects on collision
*recoulouring strips in sports games
*alternative paint jobs for vehicles in racing games

To conclude:
I hope you all enjoy using it Any questions please ask

Cheers, Sam

Where did you read that? It says "Quikly 3d Model Pro
This is the Full version. It is FREE when you purchase "Quikly Games Studio Pro" or available to purchase on its own for £9.99, around $17.49 US, or €14.99."

MODEL Pro is available separately for that price, or free when you buy STUDIO Pro.

Studio Pro includes:
Game Pro - to actually put your games together, build levels, place objects, edit AI etc
Model Pro - to build your models (what this thread is about)
Texture Pro - For autogenerating and editting texturemaps
Tree Pro - For making Foliage (a bit like Plantlife or TreeMagic)
Terrain Pro - For making heightmap terrains and skyboxes.

The EA Version of Studio Pro is available to preorder now, delivered for christmas download, with the full version coming Feb 14th. There is a thread dedicated to it stickied in the Work in Progress forum.

This thread was simply to announce that Model Pro was complete and ready for ordering for anyone who wanted to buy it standalone, as during development I had a few queries about selling it separately.

Sorry for any confusion, I appreciate there's lots of products with "Quikly" at the beginning so it can get confusing!

Dev News:

All weapon models, skyboxes and terrains now import into game pro games perfectly with no scaling, texturing and scaling errors. (screenshot attatched) All the media in this screenshot were made with Quikly Studio products, model pro for the gun, and terrain pro for the sky & terrain. (except actual terrain & gun textures, I'm still perfecting texturepro) Sky is generated with terrain pro, and is roughly based on the methods and patterns Terragen uses.

Wow, I've had a LOT more EA orders than I expected - MANY thanks to everyone who had the faith in me to order this. Less than 24 hours before I have to email the EA copies out, so I am busy beavering away to add as many cool features/models/tutorials etc as possible before I do them! I have bought more webspace, bandwidth and even got a few backup servers to make sure everything goes without a hitch!

To everyone who has requested a free version of Model pro, I'm delivering them at the same time as the full versions late this evening (xmas eve) - twill make a nice present for ya Apologies for the slightly late deliervy, but once I saw how many orders I was actually getting I panicked and thought I'd better work 10 to the dozen to make this as cool as possible for everyone who's bought an EA version Its going to be a very happy christmas for these people

[Edit] I've got loads of cool stuff to show you guys, but I can't post screens etc until I've emailled out the EA versions, so expect a nice update very early xams morning - and then I'm taking a whole day off for a change

This is actually a different product to the one in WIP - its available as part of studio EA or as standalone - seems to confuse a lot of people though I'll edit my first posts soon to make it clearer

hm..it looks like my post has been eraced or something..(or i didnt post it..)

ayways i have a suggestion , i would like to conribue a RENDERING PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE (renderer with very simple syntax..)
Witch will support:
*.x models loading
*Rendering resolution setting
*Save rendering image to .bmp or .jpg file
*Some rendering effects
*texturing 3d objects (but only for the renderer , it doesnt export them textured..)
*My moddel pack (also my contribue to you...)
-----------------------------------------
This is what it can export to .exe
-----------------------------------------
*static rendered object
*rotating rendering object
*Rotating rendering objects while showing special background and playing music

Ok , so i would like to make a sort of rendering program with a support for your program.

so , what do you think , should i get to work ?

The thread you posted in is here, in WIP not Program Announcements

ok well i tried the latest demo, ideas to make it a more usefull tool would be as follows,

make the app run in a window, so fullscreen can be annoying like if your editing a texture at the same time, someone spams you on msn etc etc.

add a toolbar somewhere with usefull tools such add add movement tools/rotation whatever

add extrude, merge verts, selecting objects by face/verts/groups

needs to have more than just cubes to model from as they are very limiting and end up wasting polys especially without a extrude feature, also add lots of primitives with adjustments like x/y/z segments etc etc

when i set 2 viewports to be 3d the 2nd one ran rather poorley, a small area that displays model information, model total polys/verts polys/verts in selected bits etc etc,

better viewport control like shift+mousemove or something so you can pan the viewport and 3d view could have better mosewheel sensitivity.

loading could be alot quicker took me about 20secs to load up the pistol example,

3d view`s grids need to be worked on as they can be very annoying, maybe a wireframe grid thats only on the x/z axis?

the 2d viewports should be wireframes by defalt and the ability to set each individual viewports howto display objects,

ability to hide/show objects, works on multiple objects at a time, better uv mapping editing not just auto uv`s but have a window popup showing the objects uvmap and be able to edit points on it.

i could probably list alot more things but i guess this modeller is supposed to be aimed at the introductionary users.

Halowed are the ori.

dark coder - thanks for your comments :

"make the app run in a window, so fullscreen can be annoying like if your editing a texture at the same time, someone spams you on msn etc etc." - Ok I might do that. Personally I prefer it running full screen, also that way it matches all the other quikly apps (which once released all run in "quikly desktop") But for the standalone I could certainly add the possibility of a windowed more too

"add a toolbar somewhere with usefull tools such add add movement tools/rotation whatever"
Those tools are covered in one single dropdown - its FAR more efficient asnd easy to pick up than separate buttons, its also easy to add more tolls to the dropdown without using space, PLUS the tools wprk differently in each window, that wouldn't be possible with that many vuttons. It was a concious design decision I appreciate its very different to how other modellers do it, I principally made thios tool becuase I don't LIKE other modellers

"add extrude, merge verts, selecting objects by face/verts/groups"
No theres a very imple reason I didn't do that. Because once you do, it makes stuff control differently, ie once you merge verts you can't just adjust one box anymore, they all move. The purpose of the modeller is to be as simple as possible for non modellers and non programmers even to be able to make game items for use in Quikly Game Pro without having to learn complex techniques - there is no need whatsoever to use these techniques whilst making low poly furnature, crates, buildings and weapons - and thats what this is designed to do

"needs to have more than just cubes to model from as they are very limiting and end up wasting polys especially without a extrude feature, also add lots of primitives with adjustments like x/y/z segments etc etc"
They don't waste polys as once in dbpro the non visible polys are culled But you're right I will add other primitives in the near future, triangles, plains and cylinders are likely, spheres are possible. But for now boxes really aren't that limiting - I've modelled all media for quikly in it and not found anything I couldn't make that I needed to so far

"when i set 2 viewports to be 3d the 2nd one ran rather poorley"
Yes thats already covered in the tutorial, it will be fixed by the next version

"a small area that displays model information, model total polys/verts polys/verts in selected bits etc etc"
Yes good idea, already added this to the new version (released in feb if not before with the full version of studio pro)

"better viewport control like shift+mousemove or something so you can pan the viewport and 3d view could have better mousewheel sensitivity."
Again, done and done in the new version

"loading could be alot quicker took me about 20secs to load up the pistol example"
Yup covered in the tutorial, its becasue of a temporary fix which stops the "you must have square textures" 'bug' with some graphics cards. This will be speeded up for the next version, about the same speed as the x.export is currently.

"3d view`s grids need to be worked on as they can be very annoying, maybe a wireframe grid thats only on the x/z axis?"
Thats already there, you can turn on and off each of the three grids individually in the view menu

"the 2d viewports should be wireframes by defalt"
Usually I'd agree with you, but wireframes care and confuse newcomers, as it means they have to learn about polygons - its simpler to start off learning how each box relates to each other (sets of 12 polys) - of course you can turn on the wireframe modes whenever you like if you find them useful

"and the ability to set each individual viewports howto display objects"
Yes I definitely want to look into that for the next version, 'm going to post a forum thread asking if its possible in dbpro to set object properties for each camera, I'm not convinced that it is possible, burt its on my "wishlist" of features to bug lee and mike with

"ability to hide/show objects"
Already in there, under "advanced settings" (disabled in the free versions and demos)

"works on multiple objects at a time"
YEs I agree I'm working on a system to use Tabs for switching between models, a bit like pages in Firefox

"better uv mapping editing not just auto uv`s but have a window popup showing the objects uvmap and be able to edit points on it."
Already in there, under "advanced settings" (disabled in the free versions and demos)

Anyw some good ideas there, many of which are already in or I'm already working on, thanks for trying it out and spending the time to help me improve it

Tpfkat - "how does quikly compare with 3d game studio"
Um I've never tried A6, I tried A5 but didn't like it too much. I'm not going to put down another person's project though I'm sure they both have their plus and mius points - I'll pop and have a look at their website and come back with a more informed opinnion in a minute or two

Hmm well it seems that A6 has lots of different versions. I'd say that quikly is most similar to the $899 version, being that its royalty free, has full physcis, the game code is supplied, no splash screens, media file compatibility etc - the $49 version of A6 has none of those. A6 certainly looks like a decent engine though, if it all was included in the $49 version I'd have no problems endorsing it, as it is though I'd say its too expensive for teh kind of market that would be interested in Quikly, so they are quite different products

Quikly 3d Game Studio
+ Drag and Drop Simplicity, very easy to pick up
+ Powerful but easy plain english scripting
+ All upgrades are free for life
+ Much cheaper and always royalty free
+ constant support from the programmer on forums & email
+ Ever expanding Royalty free media inc models, music and textures
+ Lots more bundled software than A6
+ Outputs to dbpro code or exe with media
- needs a good graphics card to perform well
- EA version is a work in progress, not all features there YET
- Innevitably not as flexible as a c++ based language for experts

A6 Game Studio
+ More complicted and flexible model editor
+ Slightly faster graphics engine
+ Flexibility of C++ style coding
+ Finished product been improved over many years
- Harder to learn scripting & model editting
- Slower to get results
- Far less included media
- Much more expensive for full version AND you have to pay for each update (ie A5-A6 etc)

I think/hope thats fair? As I said I don't want to put down other products at all but you asked for a direct comparrisson. I'd much prefer it if people compared them themselves and made their own decision, once the FULL version of Quikly is out in February and the community of EA users have really got into gear it'll be much easier to compare them and the released demos will be far better

Anyway, this has got quite off topic for a modeller discussion If you have any questions about Studio PRo (includes game pro, models pro and much more for one price) then please post questions in the WIP thread here or on the quikly.com forums Thanks!

Model Pro is the Model Editor, where you can make objects. You don't have to though as many are provided and many more will be made for free as time goes by at a rate aof AT LEAST one a week, along with any that community members make and add to the pool

In Game Pro, you make scenes (Ie levels) where by you add all the models together to make levels, this includes painting shapes together out of walls to make levels, its VERY simple and you don't need any modelling skills to do it. (if you've used FPSC its very similar but in my opinion much faster and slightly more flexible) There are some different styles of walls, ceiling, floors, steps etc included, plus a tutorial about how to make your own, and obviously more and more styles and types added as time goes by (Sci Fi, War, Fantasy, Cartoon, Medieval, Junlge, Pirates etc etc etc)

As for an example of the script, here's one for an example I'm writing now

Pretty self explanatory, but basically this would do the following:

In the EA version you'll have to type these codes out into a text editor within the program. Howevere by the full version these scripts will also be able to be chosen from clicking different options to write it yourself, similar to how The Games Factory/Click & Play/MMF does it.

A lot of the time scripting won't be necessary, for example you can just click and drop in a FPS charater or Vehicle etc and edit their properties with click boxes to choose their speed, camera, control methods, physics options etc.

That is extremley verbose scripting, kind of like Apple Script.

It looks really interesting though, and I wish you good luck tokenising and interpreting it

Thanks

Yes its quite wordy, but the user doesn't usually need to actually type it, its mostly written by Quikly for the user based on selections they make. But then they can open and edit the scripts easily and its very simple for them to understand. The emphasis was on make it A Proper English and B consistant for all commands.

Its actually very easy for the program to interpret as all snetences are made from the same setup, ie

"when to do this" eg

"compare" ie

"what to do" ie

"what to do it to" ie
