After 2 days of work here comes my new game : no goal, just you, the island and these floating dumb men.

You can drag and throw them on a rock or on the water if you're in a bad mood, you can play bowling with a few of them or even look them doing nothing ! (impressive, huh ?)

The game isn't finished at all but I've got a little demo :
http://dbpupload.blackgate.us/math89/Island/Island.rar (edit : now version 3, no more crash)
Arrowkeys to move and right mouse button to drag.

It needs the last version of directx.

Pretty cool. Although you should make the mouse stay in the centre of the screen, IMO. It's difficult to control.

But pretty nice work.

If you can create that without media, you should enter the DBP challenge this week.

Pocean.fx?

So the reflection in the water would be a texture loaded by the shader?

The water shader that this program uses is very basic. You make a camera object that creates textures, and those textures are applied to the shader. But I don't like this method, because it's so cheap. If there's a fern in front of the camera, you see a giant fern in the water. I wish that we could have some sort of modified version of the reflection shader that DBPro uses. Its reflections are much more accurate.

I see. And I agree that is would be neat if DBP could apply a water effect...

Aw man, that's awesome!!!! Are they actauly generating a random conversation, or is it pre-scripted? Either way, that's awesome, and I love thier voices.

I got between 100-135fps, but the camera controls need some serious work. I bounced off water like 100ft in the air, and zoomed all around the map.

Thank you ^^. The conversations are pre scripted but I think I can add a few things to make it better.
QtR : I don't know what exactly is the problem, perhaps the collision data of the map. Try without shaders, trees and grass.

Phaelax : I know, controls weren't my first objective on this game, and I have to learn a few more things about newton before.

Tobias : A little trick if you're bad at maths : I position an invisible object just on the top of the character and use object screen x/y to find the 2d coordinates of the text, then position the object right on the character and draw a line between the 2 points.

okay... I'll try do that
In my FPS Multiplayer project I also have the name of a connected player above their character. So maybe I will add the sexy line between the text and object

If they are too annoying, put them in a volcano (not realistic but funny) and watch them burning ,then, you can use them as a torch to set fire to the others.

I've fixed the gameplay, no more boucing .

or when doign the dragging, dont use the mouse coordinates. Use it from the center of the screen. Then all you'd have to do is hide the mouse and not even position it. Thats what i do for my game, and it works fine. Also, you can drag those people even if you are extremely far away... Good game so far,of course, the water shader didnt work on my pc cuz my pc sucks.

Ok, I think I'll do that. If you can't see the shader, set 'shader' to 0 in the config file.

I'm working on the lights and my particles engine, for some better effects.

The camera is WAY better now! And that conversation thing is pretty sweet! Maybe you could do something so you could move the noobs closer to you/further away from you, using the scroller on the mouse. If you know what I'm saying? And are you checking out the Ultimate Shader Pack? I think there's a better water shader in there.

But so far, it's really fun to play! Good work, keep it up!

Nice bug, Mike, but I don't know how I can fix that :S. Try to change all settings.
Freddy : Not a problem, I'll add this system.
The Nerd : I think it's a problem with newton and my terrain, but I can't be sure. Try with 'optimization' set to 0.
