BOMB ROLLER 2

Since I have nothing better to do, I made a big fancy thread for it.

Information

Bomb Roller 2 is the next game after Bomb Roller. It will have up to 5 seperate levels with ramps in each level. the ramps will bring you higher in the level, and a drop onto a lower level will destroy. This will be the only really big difference from Bomb Roller, besides a few other types of tiles. The levels will be alot longer too.

Please post any comments on my website in the guestbook. I just want to show my website without making a thread in the geek culture board. My other games are there, and alternative downloads of the demos and stuff should be there too.

lol you posted fast.

Thanks. I spent alot of time making the textures and landscape with milkshape.

JK. Its just a skybox
It's temporary, but I might use it. Not sure. Its not mine, and I have no clue who made it, so I might not want to have it in the game. It is from TDK_Man's skybox tutorial (very well hidden in the newcommers board)

Nice, I was waiting for this... So, will there be faster loading time in this version?

Hopefully. I made it load only enough tiles for the viewing screen. It takes the old tiles at the back and uses them at the front. It loads pretty fast, but so far I only have one out of 5 possible levels, and only the ground tile so far.

I won't have much time to work on this this week, because I will be at a programming event, but after that, I will be in the mood for programming, and the progress will go by much faster.

I apologize, but I won't be able to work on it until saturday. Sorry. If I had known this, I wouldn't have posted the thread this early.

Sorry

The background looks a bit pixellated. Maybe you should display it through the 3D pipeline?

Thank you, Crazy Ninja!

FoxBlitzz - The background is temporary. Don't worry about it. Please! The image is pixilated because it isn't a very good skybox texture. There is nothing I can do to make it better, because it is already as good as it can get with that image...

No no no, you don't get it. When DarkBASIC scales 2D images, they aren't resampled (Why do I have to tell everyone that?). Instead, you should render the background in 3D, preferably as a skybox.

I do get it. It is a skybox.

Thanks for trying to help though.

Having major fps problems. It is getting down to 10 fps

Edit: Holy crud. I got rid of the transparency and ghosting, and it is soooooooooooooooooo much faster. I will make an option to use ghosting or not in the finished game. My computer doesn't have a very good gfx card, so on another computer with a really good gfx card it would probably run fine.

Thanks . Because of all the background comments, I changed it to a hideous green background(so you will know that its temporary ). I am still not sure what the background will be yet. I also changed the tile textures. I am still working on the ramps. Its challenging...

Oh, and the fps is fixed now.

Good luck on those ramps! Oh and is this being made in DBC or DBPro, just wondering...

I doubt you can draw me/60 by hand, so you REALLY can't draw ME/1, can you?

DBC

I'm going to use bouncy tiles instead of ramps, like in the first Bomb Roller.

At the moment, I am working on the bouncy tiles and the multiple level thing.

Yay!

So you mean to tell me that you were going to remove the bouncy tiles! Well, um... DON'T those were one of my favourites

I doubt you can draw me/60 by hand, so you REALLY can't draw ME/1, can you? Okay, you do that. Just tell me when you're done, I'll be someplace else having a life.

I wasen't. I was just going to use ramps instead of them for getting up onto a higher level. I would stilll use them just like they were used in BR1. But I decided to use them for both getting up a level and jumping over pits/walls.

Sorry about the slow progress. I haven't been able to make myself work .

It's fine, take your time. You do not have to release this in an instant. Take as long as you need. Don't rush.

I got the jumping to work. But now I need to make the jump speeds right, and make it so you can jump onto another level.

I'm planning the jump to be low and far...

so sorry...

I only want it to go up a "floor" or two in a jump, so its not going to be high.

Lol

Yay! Jumping is finished! Now I am working on multiple floors. I will post a screenshot once that starts working.

I also added a speed boost when you press the up key. In the first one, you would just speed up, but this way is alot gameplay friendly, because after you release the key, it slows back down. This is very useful for long jumps, which would be impossible to cross at the normal speed.

Thanks zzz. I put a link to a bunch of my functions in my sig thanks to you.

Yay UFO you finally got the jumping to work! This is going to be a lot of fun to play when it's done, but take your time. Oh, and UFP I have a bunch of functions that may come in handy in the link in my signature (sorry, none are tested in DBC because my DBC actually takes longer to load than DBPro and that's hard to do!). Anyway, some may work, others may not. Take a look if you like.

Umm... wasn't there always a speed boost when you press the up arrowkey? OH wait just finished reading the paragraph. Sounds good!

Thanks, I'll try them out

Two more screenshots

The jumping and the multiple levels seem to work. I am currently working on a small "obstacle cource" with multiple levels to test it out and see if it works.

I only need to add explosions, and finish the first level and then its demo time

Oh, and eventually, I will need a beta tester or two, so e-mail me if you're interested

EDIT: Here is a short video of the level so far. The music is from Dakurv.

Nice tunnel! And how is the loading speed, faster? Anyway, it looks good!
Yay, I got an idea! You could have different type of bombs with different functions. Like a really small bomb or a bomb that can bounce higher and so on. Just a thought.

Thats a good idea, but I'm not planning on having the player switch between bombs. I just can't think of how that will be added to the game. Sorry

Just saw the video, and it looks úber awesome!

Maybe for the next one you could have full 360 degree movement?

Jumping looks slightly odd, but the levels look really cool.

The jumping looks like it could use some work, and I think the turning should be smoother, but otherwise looks like it's comming along quite well!

Thanks for the feedback!!

Quote: "Jumping looks slightly odd"

Yes, I have noticed this. I am trying to fix it. It shouldn't be that hard though.

Quote: "maybe you could add a fog so the blocks just don´t "pop" up from nowhere?"

I was going to try to do something like that, but I guess I forgot.

Quote: "OH and btw you OWN at bomb roller... I would have died if I knew I was being filmed by the computer."

Lol, thanks. Being filmed with fraps really doesn't make it much harder though...At most, it makes the game a little slower, so its actually a little easier

zzz - Nice sig

EDIT: OK, the jumping is fixed!! It looks real and not messed up now. The fog is added too. YAY!

It doesn't look any different. Its just a little foggy in the distance. Its also really late and I want to go to bed as soon as possible. Sorry :-(

Ok, I added mouse and joystick support, so you can control with either the keyboard, the mouse, or the joystick. When I release the demo (after I finish the first level and explosions), I will post how to change what kind of controller you are using.

Here is a pic of the wip explosion. The finished explosion will have manually-coded particles and a camera shake effect. Alot of people liked the camera shake effect in Laser Assault 3, and I like it too , so I am going to add that here too.

Have a nice day/afternoon/evening/night

Oops didn't see page 2 where the question Flock had was already answered (I always do that).

Camera Shake?!? Can't wait! Oh and can you spice up the wall and floor tiles to be a little more... real? They look kind of... unfinished to me. Yes, I know it's a WIP but I just wanted to let ya know. The Boxes for walls were nice in Bomb Roller 1, maybe a futuristic version of the tiles in Bomb Roller 1 can be in Bomb Roller 2! Just a thoght Maybe some chrome Layer Styles in Photoshop (If you have it, that is.)

Anyway keep up the good work.
