You just need some more edge loops in there so that you can define the shape more.

ya have edge loops in the arms but not the torso.? it seems your going for low poly. but low poly is much like a budget. you polys to the more important parts like face and torso(cause its the most visible) and slightly less else were like hands and feet.

Here's an update of Kain from FF. I'll make a folder with the refrence photos and model for the entry thread later. Enjoy!

Edit: Oh yeah, I think it's only about 894 polygons.

Damn, this is harder than I expected. I have a question about the poly limit. Quads or tris? Dark Basic counts tris, but that would effectively half the limit to 750. I'd like to know before I get any further so I don't waste time.

I would say triangles because that's what .x format uses.

i contradict, we've always done it counting quads. besides even counting the quads or tris on more proffesional models they are not usually under 750 quads which is 1500 tris (escpecially these day) if we were to go by tris i would alread be over the limit and i have added little to no detail.

P.S. thank for the comment medevil

Yes, yes. But this is a low poly competition and a triangle is as low poly as one can get.

Those of us who haven't had the benefit of knowing that "[you've] always done it counting quads" have half the number of polygons as those who did.

Would've been nice to know in advance.

Indeed. Not every modeler works in quads. Milkshape works in tris. My model is 988 tris and already entered. You can get detail with low polly, you just have to put some effort into it, and use a good texture. Technically it's not a low polly contest if the limit is 3000 tris.
3000 tris is accually mid to high polly.

Big Add already apologised for the confusion and my apology goes to it as well as I am managing it, unfortunately, these sort of things happen, in your run of the mill home cooked contests Hope it hasn't put you at a Tangent, from looking at disturbed's, 900 tries and that quality increases his/her chances of winning.

hehe what you guys dont realize is that the program counts in tris anyways.

I am certain blender does, and fairly certain that 3ds max does. Its the theorem that (euler?) made that they usually slap onto a program to count stuff. Quads are for ease of use.

I know this because ive tested it. Exported models made strictly from quads into milkshape and it kept the same poly count. sorry, you DONT get 3000 tris. Just use the poly count tool in your program and chances are that its correct.

Actually, Blender doesn't have a poly count as such. There's a face count, which I use, so if your modelis in quads, then double it or convert to tris. DB counts in tris.

It's not a big deal though. If a poly count is provided, people will take it into consideration. Higher poly count will harm your vote. Oh, and 3000 tris is low poly.

It's no biggie. Especially because it is a home cooked contest.

But for future low poly contests I'd suggest converting the models to .x format, loading them in DBPro and running:

Suggestion taken, but for people giving their polygon counts it can ONLY be a suggestion, simply as a rule it may not be fair for many users.

They want the dll? I'm not sure why. You can find goga's dll in the program announcement forums. Are you (or did you) try to recompile the exe or something? Has anyone else gotten this problem?

All I did was download the zip file, unzip the exe and ran it. So, having very little skill in DB Pro, I am unable to get a screen capture from inside a game engine.

Look for a button on the key board labelled 'PrtSc' (AKA Print Screen) it takes a copy of the screen and saves it to your clipboard (meaning you'll have to paste it in Paint or another application)

Well good luck BenD, thats something to feed your competitive nature, so WIN WIN WIN!!

Oh right, what I would do is either get his dll from his thread, wait until the creator of the program is here...however you don't need to use the model viewer for the contest, however I'll try to sort something out

Lara Croft is so like ten years a go...plus that would also lose votes (like mine) like everybody is like into Anime chicks now like totally whatever

Here is the thread with goga's dll. http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=71505&b=5
Just download the latest version (.15b I think) and throw it into the file with the exe. See if that works.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to pull out of this one.

My model wasn't going the way I'd hoped, and I don't have as much time as I'd originally thought. I'd much rather concentrate on my game with the time left.

I might continue it over a longer period of time and start a new thread if it's any good.
