One of the biggest problems we have with these expansion packs is with the activation. Please ensure you are using the latest version of DB Pro before installing. When you do install and get asked to activate it's crucial you enter the email used when ordering and the activation code. If something goes wrong with the activation please check you are entering the right information. I've lost track of how many times people get frustrated by not being able to activate something and it turns out to be because of entering the wrong info like the order key for DB Pro or something.

One quick note on that...

When copying your activation key, make sure you paste it somewhere like notepad, and make sure it's all on 1 line - with hotmail especially it likes to truncate long bits of text with a carriage return.

Well I must say, thats awsome. I'm wondering if the dark physics zip has the projects in it and you hosted the projects seperated as well. So why is there two? just in case someone doesn't want to download the plug-in again? And by the way,I'm holding in a scream right now. I'm very very happy.

The main installer comes complete with all the files you need and several tutorials and demo programs. The secondary installer is an optional download that contains a whole load of demo projects. It helps those on slower download speeds to get the required files first and come back for the demos when they're ready.

Oh boy, just tried running the Vehicle demo that gets installed with DarkPhysics_v1.zip

It straightaway came up with:

"Invalid PhysX Runtime - check drivers are installed - http://ageia.com/physx/drivers.html"

So it took me to that page, I downloaded and installed the 2.4.4 drivers and then attempted to run the Vehicle demo one more time.

Error: "Invalid PhysX Runtime - check drivers are installed - http://ageia.com/physx/drivers.html" appeared again.

Eeek! Am I doing something silly?

Omikron - look in the Start Menu\\The Game Creators\\Expansion Packs\\Dark Physics\\Tools. Select the Runtime option and install the new drivers. This will sort things out for you. Ageia will have updated their site by tomorrow. There's also several other useful links contained in the Start Menu.

Okay. I have downloaded and installed. When I tried to run some of the demos that came with the plugin itself, I was told to install a physics driver from Ageia. Cool, I installed that, rebooted the pc and tried again. Nothing had changed, and I was still asked to install a physics driver. I am sure that I have activated the product correctly, because I can compile the examples, I just can't run them. What's happening?

EDIT: Didn't see last page.

EDIT2: Great, that solved it. Thanks Mike!

the cloth goes slow on my pc and the 6dof joint and the character controller well, actually,I'll give you a list of played examples that go slowly!

Here they are:
character controller
banner
cloth ball
multiple cloth objects
6dof joint.

But then again,my computer sucks.lol. I've only gotten to the 6dof joint thing.

Edit: Actually,I'm starting to think its just gravity...

Benny53 - The character controller demo loads in a particularly large FPS Creator level and all of that is constantly drawn which is going to slow things down. It certainly isn't the most optimal demo and with a better prepared level that demo should run well for you.

The cloth demos can be intense but there ways of improving performance. For example, you can use damping on a cloth to bring its movement to a halt faster. This will help as less work is needed to process movement. It can also help to scale things down and work with smaller objects as less data is used.

As for the 6DOF joint demo then if it's the one I'm thinking of then only a few objects are on screen so not sure why that one should run slow. Can you see the frame rate? What kind of speed do you get?

Huh,well, turns out it was just seeming to gravity. I get 30 fps(normal for my computer ) on pretty much everything but the first particle demo(collision),that is actually slow because of the amount of particles

And with the character controller,I knew that was going to go slow because of the media from the start.lol.

Benny - be sure to check the resolution the demo is running in too. Some of them are fixed at 800x600, others at full desktop, etc. For optimal speed you could try changing it to 'full screen exclusive' mode at something like 1024x768, or 800x600, which should help.

Benny53, the default emitters are probably a little too high in the particle collision demo. Try changing the number of particles ( the 2nd parameter in the calls to make emitters ) from 256 to maybe 100. That should help to increase the frame rate a lot without impacting on the visuals too much.

Yeah,I'm getting some smooth stuff. I didn't change the resolution, but I shall. With the ragdolls demo its funny watching them fall. I set the gravity to -30 to make it look right

Heh,and the emitter properties one stopped responding, never actually started,so its down in my little bar. Tried ending the process and everything, but it just likes being there

From AGEIA PhysX site :

What Does It Cost?

The AGEIA PhysX SDK is free for non-commercial use. Standard pricing for commercial use is $50,000/title/platform. Licensed developers who implement PhysX accelerator support in their PC title are not required to pay this fee.

How will this affect titles produced using Dark Physics ?

BTW, I'm very impressed by the demos and the capabilities of this extension but am I woried of the price tag with no reason ?

I've definitely noticed already that the demos aren't a good example of FPS speeds. They are a good example of functionality and usage, but I would suggest nobody loses heart when they see 15FPS in a demo. For example, the bridge demo crawled on my compo which worried me a bit until I turned of shaders and reflection and then it ran so fast I couldn't actually see what was going on. Similarly, some of the ragdoll demos seem a bit slow, but I switched off the frame limiter on the one where the ragdolls drop out of the sky all over the place, and got between 80 and 300FPS, normally around the 200 mark.

So at the moment the performance looks pretty damn good! I remember seeing a newton demo where 2 ragdolls falling on top of each other dropped the program down to about 30FPS. No sign of any problems like that in DP. 20 odd rag dolls falling out of the sky and it was all running fine.
