Ok, It has been suggested that I post some if not all my 2D Artwork from my "Artists Challenge" Thread in the DBP section. So here goes nothing.. Oh and try not to faint.

Looking for breakout tiles?...

How about Slot Machine tiles?...

Perhaps a Tetris type set of art?...

Or, Maybe Word Games are more your thing?...

Ever hear of Mahjongg?...

Unused misc color squares...

Is Asteroids more your cup of tea?...

I know, you want to make a card game?...

How about a Sci-Fi twist on the classic Hangman?...

Chess or Checkers anyone?...

Perhaps Millipede?...

I know, Frogger is the one you fancy?...

How about a Side Scrolling Shooter with all the trimmings?...

Ok, Now that I got your attention, How about a Pip-Mania type game?...

************************************************************
This is just the tip of the iceberg, you can find much more over in the "Artist's Challenge" thread..

Lots of backdrops, a few 3D Models and well, just about everything but the kitchen sink.

Comments welcome, Have a great day, Cheers!

Well, that seems like a terrible shame. Here you go:

Great work David. It's such a pitty that most people don't feel the same way about sharing media. If people ask for sprites or models they generally get flamed and told "Check out the rules for team request, you noob!"
This forum really should be about helping everyone to achieve their goal of creating games but most people aren't willing to help unless it's with code, even then the response is often "Use the search button noob". It's a good thing you are here. Let's hope your genrosity may sway others

Hey guys lets try to keep this clean except for media, the other thread was kind of overtaken by discussion, lets simply use this one for media, and do the talking in the old thread. Just to keep things organized and clean!

I'm working on a high res photorealistic texture pack. High res as in 7 megapixels, e-mail me with suggestions.

Agent Dink, If this thread sparks some life into the 2D comunity, do not discourage them from posting. I can always edit the first post to add new content, or like the "Artist's Challenge" thread, just post stuff as I go along.

Cheers!

yup, all these are free, you can use them in any project on any platform. Fame points in the way of Credit would be great, and if you need something extra just post a request.

Did I mention there much more in the parent thread called The Artist's Challenge in the DBPro forums?

Cheers!

Edit: for those who are looking for RPG tiles,.. here is a link to where my free tiles are located..

I think that you should post your 3D work also. Put it in the 3D section, and add a link to the 3D thread here, and a link to the 2D thread (this one) there.

Do it in the main post.

It's just a friendly suggestion that I think would make it a little quicker for people to jump between the threads.

I love how you've consolidated alot of the images in your parent thread here. Good stuff. It makes it alot easier for people to sample your work.

awesome stuff David

If only more people would take the time to make a healthy dose of quality media and give it away for free, the world would be a much better place. OK, it might not make a better planet for us to live on, but it will help the non arty forumers make better looking games, which in turn will stand a much better chance of being played because they look good.

Everyones bound to have some decent media that they can give to the community for free, go on , ransack your hard disk and backups for media you think might be usefull to the rest of us and get it posted.

Hi David

Love your work man, exelent stuff I'm working on a game creation package called Simple Game Toolkit, first prototype version (P.0.0) was released less then 48 hours ago. I was wondering if I can use some of your art for examples to include with the next version?

No chance of getting a 4 or 8 directions animated character? Like perhaps 1 movement and 1 attack animation? Something that I can test my code with and for others to use in their games.

If you wanna take a closer look at SGT you can find the download + info and shots on this page.

Sorry, dead glory, my time is very limited right now, and i don't generally do animation. and even 2 frame anim in 8 directions meand 16 frames of anim per monster/player. way mor work than I care to adress at the current time. If I was a good 3D modeler than it might be easier, but my only 3D experience is using Anim8or.

But have fun with any graphics posted here, cheers!

Yeah I know, it was a longshot. I'll be doing a 3D model myself later.

Thanks I was thinking of using some of your Slot Machine, Millipede and Pip-Mania tiles soon. And I might use some of your RPG tiles when I'm adding RPG features. I'll post the results here later.

Hi again David

I was just thinking about you and other 2D artists who don't have a lot of time and I'm now planning to add support for 1, 2, 4 and 8 directions of animation combined with 4 or 8 directions of movement and an option to turn off the stationary possition.

This will be included in version P.0.3 of SGT that will have a new collission system and some other movement features and it's hopefully comming out by the end of the month or early September.

So, I'm wodering if you have or can make an animated character in 1 (front) or 2 (left and right) directions with just 2 frames for walking/running? Preferably 12px, 14px or 16px wide to work with my current art but another size is welcome as well.

Cheers

I'm working on improving the camera functions of SGT and I just wanted to show what I'm using your artwork for Using my new ViewOffset command I can have the map placed at the bottom of the screen as seen here.

Not to spam you thread with more posts of mine you can find another shot with the new ViewMargins command in my blog here.

Thanks for the free images

David:
I was just wondering if you are interested in beta testing SGT? You don't need to put in a lot of work as a tester if you don't have a lot of time but your skills as a 2D artist would be very valuable. Your input on the features and capabilities of SGT would also be welcome.

Now with P.0.3 it's possible to use 1, 2, 4 or 8 directions of animation with or without a stationary possition. For example, to save time on the animation you can simply do a two frame animation from one direction or from the side and then mirror it for two directions. There is of course use of stationary objects as well.

Here's a shot from P.0.3 with some of your art and an animation by BlinkOk: Click

@Hobgoblin Lord,

Be careful when using images of currency. Even though they're low resolution scans, it's still considered highly illegal. The way around this is to signifigantly alter the image, and text contained there within.

Nice work by the way, just a heads up for you is all.

David--- beautiful stuff You wouldn't happen to be the same David Gervais who was the lead artist on Space Empires V, are you? That's one of my favourite games right now (although I really suck at it).

Mr. Gervais,

My name is Daniel McNeese. Even though you let people use your (superb) artwork for free, I recall you stating once that you prefer people check with you for permission first, so I sent you an e-mail asking for permission to publicly release a demo that I've been developing using your roguelike graphics. Your work is so good that I don't want to change the tiles.

That was 3 days ago. I don't know if that e-mail ever reached you, as two others I sent out recently got greatly delayed for some reason. So I wanted to ask you through another venue to be sure.

May I use your graphics?
