Finally! I've implanted the animated decal feature into Decal Maker! I'm one major step closer to having version 6.0 out! I'm attaching a video to show you an exported decal, with NO user customization required! It exported the decal files in the gamecore, and even the fpe!

I know the images are poor and the numbers are actually kinda random because of the way I had them sorted but the fact is it works!

Here is a screenshot of the interface. You select the folder with your 16 images in it.

Thanks!

I just have to fix the script thing so those three options (face player, on ground, flat) work correctly.

I made a little program that will download the latest version (would be sent to customers) but I'm thinking that, since the program itself is small due to DBP's compression, that I would probally just e-mail it to each customer, like AE's crosshair pack. The help guide could be available on line (or download for free by anyone) to keep the size down. Each customer would also get sent any updates for newer versions.

Once this is almost completly done I'll have it ready as a prize for the next level comp.

Do You really need this program to make animations with single pictures? Im not so sure...

I want to see a FPSC Professional! And lets make it REALLY expensive this time......

No.You can go to the Tutorial city thread and check out Higgins' tutorial on particles and make them yourself if you want.
I am looking for anything that will make my life easier and that is one of the things that Decal Maker has done and continues to do.
It is a tool.
You do not need Decal Maker to make games.
You do not need FPSC to make games.
They are tools to help you make the best game you can and I like them both.

Thanks Fred! But I did know that.. (Before You said it.)

Just being mean I guess.... I meant if You can make some kind of script to make FPSC to accept single pictures instead of those 4x4 animaton decals? It shourld be possible with some scripting. Im pretty sure You can make animations that are bigger than 16 frames very easy as well.. Just some thoughts...
Cheers!

yeah i mean unless its free i dont see the point. Its a good idea im sure for some. But seriously the tutorial on the sticky is just fine. I just made my first 2 decals today...using texture makers Sprite Creation and Photoshop CS2...but i came to realize that what i initally wanted to do,(animated sprite of blood flowing down a wall), wasnt realistic..so now i just started making a completely CG animated cutscene with 3ds max..to use as a story trigger video..and there...

but seriously its not hard to maker your own sprites if you just read the tutorial.

Rune, if people didn't want easy-to-do apps., they wouldn't have buyed FPSC and would be modding for HL2 engine (for exemple).

@ Mr. Love - I don't quite get what you mean. Do you mean that you want it to load single pictures up? FPSC alone doesn't do that. My program does take your single pictures and compile them into one for you. As far as I know, they can only be 4x4, because I haven't seen ANYONE change the decalspec to find otherwise. I'll try, but I think 4x4 is the limit.

@Rune - Fine, do can do it yourself. I'm not forcing people to buy it, especially when it's only going to be about $5.

Exactly.
Do I want to spend only heaven knows how much time messing around when I can use an app to do it in a couple of minutes...maybe even faster?
No.
While some may not see the point of this app some of our forum members may not be able to grasp the concept of making decals from scratch.
Then there are some (like me) who want to spend more time making a game and less time making decals.
One of the best things about FPSC is the third party apps.
If you don't want to buy it then don't.
The point is that Airslide has been working on this for a long time and if he wants to charge a couple of bucks for it then he has certainly earned it.

Thanks

Next thing I'm working on is what I've currently nicknamed 'Thick Decals'. They are boxes rather than flat plains, useful for cd cases, books, dvd cases, and more.

I'm not sure if I can get this other thing to work, but I was thinking of 'bendy books', which use an animation and a script to 'bend' as they fall, and flatten out when they hit the ground. I'm not sure if it will work (or if it will be of any use) but it could be fun to try

Jesus i wasnt trying to be mean or w/e. I was just saying. I dont know i worded it wrong i suppose. I was just trying to reiterate that you can do it on your own. But by all means those who need a program like this..which by the way does sound very cool and very efficient as far as time saving goes..than duuddesss buyyy it.
ahah

@Rune - Okay, it's just that I've had people say these kind of things before (like Raymond *shutters*) and I kinda jumped ahead.

@Flashing Snall - Thanks! To think this has brought me this far, starting out as a simple text app and then moving up, further and further, to where it is now

I'm also *trying* to get a new sizing system in, where you click and drag to create a box, and the decal is fitted to it. What do you think? The old one can still be used, this is just an extra feature.

By the way, do you guys want me to release an 'EA' version? It won't have the thick decals or 'bendy books', but EA users will get those free later.

By the way, bendy books is going to be renamed, it will be something more for things like paper flying in the wind and such.

Almost ready, the installer is all setup, now its just a matter of getting the website and such setup and deciding on a price.

What would you guys say to $7.99 USD? (€6.37 according to the conversion sites online)

Yes, of course It could prehaps end up being cheaper for EA users, since the final might be higher like $9.99 or somewhere along those liens.

Okay, I have everything ready except for the paypal thing

Seeing as I'm too young to have a credit card, this could take a while (still trying to get ahold of my mom in NJ, she's out on some thing right now, she's an EMT).

Also, once you have installed and unlocked your copy, and patches (for any regular updates) will be e-mailed to you. I'm thinking of making them avialable on the website, provided it keeps people from using it if they don't have it.

Sorry about this, but Decal Maker has been delayed. There will be no EA version, or at least not soon. For one, I'm COMPLETLY reworking the interface, using things like tabs to make it easier to switch between modes. There will also be better previews, including one for animated decals. And finally, I'm working on 'Wind Paper' and 'Thick Decals' to be included with the initial release.

'Wind Paper' is the new name for 'bendy books', and it comes set up with options to do thinks like float through the wind, along with a guide to cool effects acheived with it.

I'm almost done with the new interface, it uses TABs, and should be alot better. Everything in one program, instead of multiple. I'm also rewriting the code to get rid of unnessasary features (many of which couldn't be accessed anyway) and hopefully get rid of previous bugs.
