ok, i think i will find time for this, but my entry is goin stink... however, just so every one is on the same page here, i googeled "what is urban" and found the following deffenition
Web definitions for urban
relating to or concerned with a city or densely populated area; "urban sociology"; "urban development"
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn - Definition in context

soooooo, it doesnt neccerelly have to be located in a city, just a heavily populated place...

Your slap expires on the 28th of December.

Quote: "...as long as you're in a city"

Seems like it would have to be in a city, town, etc.
And whether or not it has to be heavily populated or not has already been covered.

? no attitude. i simple stated 'whatever' meaning, ok. I didnt mean any harm, just wanted to tell others a loop hole. but you took care of that by saying
"I'd probably stick with the one I gave."
so, i said ok. didnt mean to offend, sorry if i did.

My HDD crashed on me
It will be weeks before I get a new one, reinstall stuff on it, and start with the level making. Till then...a BIG pause in game dev for me

And not to mention the cash I am shelling out for it...means no money to buy any packs or other good stuff

Bad Xmas for me!!!

-- game dev is fun...but taking up too much time --

So how's everyone's levels coming along?

I just wanted to give everyone a "heads up" that after this competition, I will no longer be the one to organize it. Ozark Games will still be able to host the game levels, but someone else is going to have to step up to the plate to keep this going. I'm not sure how much longer this will keep going with all the other competitions going on, such as TGC's current one, and anything they may have in the works.

I had hoped that someone from TGC would come in and post a few words about the efforts and hard work of all involved; but each competition has gone by without any input from the "officials". I'd just like to say that I appreciate and applaud all your efforts over the past few months, and hope you continue to improve in your development.

aw thanks Keith. I hope some ones comes in, and tgc should really step in, not only to keep it going, but also, these compitions have produced a lo of great fpsc out put, and if tgc looked, i bet all of them could be used as examples for the fpsc.

I agree also with Keith and with flashing's comments.

TGC should really support this competition in one way or another, I'm still suprised they still don't mention it in their newsletter and aid it by donating a price each month.

As for games, I'm still puzzled why on DF1 has gotten any real attention from TGC and why they hardly ever comment and/or promote other prjects done my members. They've choosed to support an (at that time) abandoned project, while there have been others that are much better.

When it comes to TGC's interaction with FPSC users, TGC is keeping themselves far away from us.

Well to most those guys(the DBP crowd) were all noobs, as evident by the fact some of( propbably most of us) don't/can't code. But in the same breath I can say I've seen most these guys games, and the media looks like crayon drawings nine time outta ten...so to each their own I guess.

I know I've always like the idea of these contest, but never entered one. I don't like the idea of my media be released so all can play it(and could steal it). I know its a decision made by the contest holders, but I'd personaly liked to have seen this judged by whomever, and screen shots shown of the placing games.

Screenshots would have been good to put up. As far as judging by whomever; I've repeatedly asked for volunteers to judge, and only had less than a handful respond. I tried to get the community involved as much as possible, but I can't do it alone. The same goes for prize donations; I've had a few steadfast people volunteer prizes each month, but not really anyone new.

As far as using your own media goes, I agree. However, I have said many times that the design of the level can be the determining factor, in lieu of custom art.

Sorry to hear that you won't be running this any more Keith. Thanks for what you've done so far. I have been thinking about starting a screenshot contest on fpsFREE, but I don't have the particulars down yet.

It looks like I will enter this one, as I have been working on a level anyway and it's nearly complete. I just have to remove some content and change some language. It's a practice round for Crak City and I'm trying some new stuff in it.

Best.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

I have always said that the most important part of any game is gameplay.
You can have the prettiest game in the world but if it is not fun to play there is no point in making it.
I am sorry to hear that Keith will not be doing the contest anymore and it would be nice if someone fairly responsible wanted to step up and take over.
I did it before but I can't do it now for basically the same reason as Keith...time constraints.
I am so far behind now on what I need to do myself that I don't have the time to properly do what the contest would require.

There is lots of time left to enter. So, come on guys and girls.

Hey, can I add a prize to this?

I have a script at my website that enables you to sell online media. So you can sell games, graphics, entities, and other FPS media.

It's here:
http://www.furthersolutions.com/?page=viewproduct&id=4

I think this would be a good prize for first place.

Can you have a street with houses on one side and 'Urban' area on the other side and the base of the level?
And does the player have to start inside the urban area?

Thanks - Mammal

Hey, Just wondering can the player start outside the urban zone? and part of the level be on the border between the urban/sub-urban environment?

Sorry I missed this, Mammal. As long as a significant part of your level actually takes place in the urban area, you can do as you asked.

So its a max of one Level then? or is it Levels?

Just one level as per the rules...
When he says "Your levels must be complete" he is talking to everybody not just one person. You can make a good level and keep it under 200MB.

Yep, Fred nailed it. If you have to go from one part of the level (such as passing through a door into another area), you can use some type of fade-in/fade out or simply have it load the next part of the level (such as going from an outdoor environment, to a moonscape environment). Hope that's not too confusing. The key is keeping the file size down,

well im screwed my level got so big FPS creator trouble running it, i was planning on splitting it into sections with a load in-between each part, but it would still be more than 200mb, should i start from scratch?

You could either try to trim your level enough to meet the requirements.....or, yes, start from scratch.

Time's gettin' close everybody. Time to start wrapping it up and polishing your levels! This may be the last time you FPSC pioneers get to show your stuff in a competitive format.

FPSC with 1.04 RC10 screws up for me. I mean, models disappear and reappear when you are in different areas, model pack segments don't line up (modellers fault) so I don't know if Ill have a level to enter.

Due to my lack of time and many software and hardware technical errors I probably won't have the project I wanted to make and submit(also due to my lack of scripting capabilities); however I'll probably toss something together from stock media just to submit something since you say this shall be your last time hosting this Keith.

Keith.... you forgot to put my ongoing donation in the price list. But since this will be the last compo you're organizing and perhaps the last one (although I don't hope so), I'm going to give add different prize to the list this time, instead of the regular ones. So, this time only, you can add my medieval/fantasy pack to the prize list.
