Particle Playground V1

[EDIT] 2 september 2005 22.09 :

Just uploaded a new version. It will fix a minor bug. You couldn't color the particles but as i said this is fixed now

Hi!

Particle Playground is a free particle engine we're you can make particles and then export them to darkbasic pro code. If you wanna compile the exported code you will need to own and have the cloth and particles pack from the game creators installed(You DON'T need it for using the main program). It comes with some basic functions for particles and it's easy and fast to use

Here you got some screenshots of example particles that follows with the program :

And because of the export to dbpro code feature, if there are a thing Particle Playground can't do you can do just by changing the export code to whatever you want

Features:

Save and load your particles
Make your own particles by changing the particle settings
Texture and color the particles
Export to DarkBasic Pro code
Includes 3 example particles, and a user-guide

From the pictures this looks really nice, but upon starting the program and filling in the text boxes with various values nothing shows up on the main particle window, and I even loaded various textures.

So I thought maybe something I'd try to load up the examples to see how they look. I tried to open one and it says that it can't load the image at line 257. I even tried moving the textures to the example particles directory, no luck there. Even tried copying to other directories, not even a chance at seeing an example.

Nothing loads, nothing shows. Hopefully you get this working soon.

That sounds strange!

I tried downloading the program and it worked!
I will try again now.

[EDIT]:

Just tried downloading it. And it worked
This is a strange problem. KLU 007 will try and download and test it now.

[EDIT]:

The problems are found and are getting fixes now

Yeah, I get the same error, but I figured out the error
I have told The Nerd, and he is fixing it now.
I think he's uploading now, I'm testing the bug fix.

Final edit: Alright, I've tested the update, and my thoughts were right. The "image does not exist"-error was because The Nerd's example particle files refered to a location on his own hard-drive, to a file which he forgot to include in the release...

The other error where you can't create any particles, was caused by BlueGUI. The error is fixed, and The Nerd is uploading now...

I retested out the program after the update and it works great! Have you found any neat settings combinations during testing?

Also, why is there an increase of particle engines being released on the forums lately?

They cover a range of methods. Particles can make a big impact, but designing the effects is hard to do in code.

There are a couple of people doing them for classic, where particles don't exist at all.
Someone made one for pro that used Sparky's Physics engine, and just ordinary DB Pro.
I made mine to create code for the Particles Pack. The Pack is fantastic, but virtually impossible to take advantage of all of the features without an interactive tool.
As much as The Nerd's does, it only covers about 10% of the Particle Pack functionality, there is so much more to explore.

I know it's not advanced But it certanly helps you to make the basics of particles easy. Then withing dbpro you can make it more advanced
But i have planned to make more features. maybe i will make them.

this program is cool! the only thing that it still really needs is it should allow you to set the rgb of the imagekey so that you can make the textures transparent. it could also use ghost particles. otherwise, great job!

Thanks for the comment!
hmmmm the textures you put on the particles are transparent(This depends on the texture needs it). But maybe i could add a feature so you could transparent the texture yourself.

Thanks for the comment yet again, i'm glad you liked the program

Woah! That was some bump!

Thought it sounds strange that you can't do anything
I don't have any problems here... Sorry but I can't help here

But it could be something with your system specs to do

But i've though of updating the program a little... Now when I use it for my own games too... No promise though!

@jasonhtml:

If I can pull out the source code and just dust it off... I should be able to get this feature in I will look at it this upcoming weekend. Thought my biggest dream about this project would be to re-write it and make it even more powerfull.

Was playing with this lastnight. Very impressive, though I couldnt reposition the particles. I made smoke particles and figured id try it in my WIP but then realised I couldnt reposition the particles to be placed where I needed them. Or I was overlooking how to do it.

There is a bug with the particle pack yes. If you position a particle it will be positioned to 0,0,0 the next time the loop runs. Thought I've used the program to make fire particles behind the player ship in my game, it looks good.

Hmm I loaded the 3 example particles and I see nothing...

Anyway, did they ever implement a way to only billboard along the y axis? This is the only way to get good looking rain imo. Or if not, has anyone figured out a work around?
