Welcome to the Official WIP thread for the FPS Horror, Lifeless.

Please check frequently for updates, as all new screenshots will be posted in this post, so that they can be easily seen, and you don't have to scroll through all the pages looking for them

I've been using FPSC for over a year now, and I've been around these boards just as long. I've seen so many WIP threads here, and it's evident which ones succeed. Here is my advice about making games with FPSC:

Don't rely on stock media, or other people's work too much. If you aren't willing to learn to texture/model/animate, then you certainly wont have the effort to finish the game.

As you will see in the following screenshots, Lifeless is pretty much custom. I've worked on a lot of new models, and retextured pretty much all the stock models I've used. All the work in the screenshots is made by me, or TGC. Disturbing13 has been helping me with animation.

And before people start saying I should buy a model pack...I wont. Why? Because it won't flow with my own work, and my game wont be unique. That's exactly the reason I don't download freebies off this forum.

Anyway, I won't disclose the storyline yet, because I'm still working on Level One, so things may still change.

Here are your screens sir, good day:

Comments and Criticism are welcome.

Whoa you people are quick! What do you mean Bloodeath? This is the start of level one, set in a sort of derelict factory/storehouse area. The areas are part of an empty town, so from here, the player will also be able to visit places like the chapel/other buildings and such.

Ah right, I see what you mean, but they are mainly just to show the atmosphere and Level of Detail I'm aiming for

I love these screenshots - Awesome work, buddy.
Of course, I dont know the story yet, but the levels look rather bare right now. I would love to give this a go!
All the best for your project
Dan.

Cheers Smitho. I'm certainly not finished with the level yet, so small details are being put in, but it just takes me quite a while to make all the objects, seeing as though I'm trying not to use stock.
Thanks all so far

Thanks all The gameplay will basically be more exploration, discovering secrets about the place, rather than run and gun style.

That sounds much better than the conventional project. Hioefully it will be something different, such as Umbra. Also, may I ask, what were the numbers you used for the fog? I cant seem to get a realistic looking one (I'm not doing a project - I just wanna mess around )
It's nice to hear you are going for a stock free game - Theyre not fantastic, especially when you've seen them so many times

Ill keep a good eye on this;

hey man, i was just checking this over-you need to make the fog about 5 units less dense. I like how the brown fog, and the overall gloominess of the level match perfectly.

almost reminds me of saw 2...correct?

Hey thanks for the reply. I'll tinker with the fog a bit, but I'm glad it seems to match

As for saw 2, I have seen that film, but it was a while ago. I know the storyline isn't anywhere similar, but the house thing in Saw 2 was maybe similar. Damn the subconscious mind!

Also, can anyone recommend something to fill the space of that bare wall in screen one? I mean a real life object, I'll model it myself, but I was wondering what. Pipework maybe? It's a warehouse/storage area.

haha.

*Looks around cautiously*
*Makes sure a Mod's not watching*
*Sneaks up to the keyboard...*
and...

BUMP!

Oh, and about that wall...
I was thinking about a few windows with blinds over them, not allowing the player to see outside, but giving a sense of atmosphere, and some chairs (or something) a little to the left in the middle of that room on the ground, damaged or something, just in front of a subtle light source to cast shadows on the wall with the blinds to add more depth and cover up some blank space.

Thanks for the idea of blinds! I'm unsure if I will keep that room...it served little purpose, but blinds are a definate consideration for another place in the game!

Thank you for the *bump*

Hmm, I will look into it, but I preferably want to keep this maily custom, without relying on other sources. Nothing personal against Corepak or the stock media, I think I'd just feel like I had cheated in game development. I have added some new features to the staircase area, so I will post a screenshot later asking for opinions.
