Hey Rich,

I am on chapter 5 of my tutorial(From DarkBasic to DarkBasic Pro).

Will this topic interest you? Because I have seen a lot of people who had problems when transferring from DBC to DBPRO.

Hope to hear from you,

Cheers.

There are two types of people in the world: The ones who summon and the ones that create. There is a big difference...

Hey Rich, when are you going to put my tutorial for DBClassic online, I know you're a very busy person, but I'm curious. What a pitty I just have DBClassic and not Pro so I can't receive money for it(or DBDN what I prefer) Maybe my question sounds a bit rude(with the hey rich, when do you...), but it's not meant to be.

EDIT:
How stupid, it's likely you don't know what I'm talking about, I don't know I've said in my email that my name on the forum is RTSpider, but I mean the 3D map editing tutorial([email protected])

Raven - "i doubt there is any set list of tutorials they require"

Actually there's quite a list, but then you've not asked for it so you wouldn't know.

"probably just want people to cover the more advanced techniques better than they have"

LOL you crack me up. If we ever see anything useful from you arrive in my mailbox I'll eat my hat*

Solo - "no, we don't want to cover TPC yet, there are more than enough native commands to cover for now".

PiratSS - "I couldn't say without seeing the tutorial first to be honest, best contact me."

RTspider - "Busy with the new site designs, it'll be part of the re-launch and won't be wasted".

Cheers,

Rich

It's a fair enough question though, if your email was lost or wasn't sent properly it'd be nice to know.

noticing a bit of friendly-hostility... if thats possible.

lots of people are writing these tutorials hope more advanced ones are easy to read since i really want to break out of the only-use-basic-commands-syndrome. I really want one for the 3D maths commands because I dont even understand the use for all that vector stuff and its not explained too well in the handbook. Probably cos it needs a lot of explaining and its such a dinky book.

Oh yeah, rich, i just emailed you as to if you got my email and im too scared to email you again in case you get angry so ill ask here instead... for the cshop one do you want a guide to how to use cshop, or just loading a made map into darkbasic. If its the first one then im interested, but otherwise ill let someone else have the honours.

Also Rich, I just went over the tutorial I sent you (the one on making sun flares) and I found a few errors which is why the sun flare may not look correct if you run it. I just fixed it now though as well as a couple grammatical errors but I'm going to wait before sending you the updated version in case anything else is wrong that I didn't pick up. Hope that's alright.

Hamish - it was more the content than the code I didn't really turn any down, I'd still like to see your tutorial used. I just had to be frank and say as it exists I can't use it, but if you change it as advised I'll re-evaluate it. I think that's fair enough (and you weren't the only one either btw).

Rich

I can understand why a tutorial list hasn't been published, as I have a feeling that:

100 say they will make a tutorial
20 actually send a sample
15 are accepted
10 get finished.

... just going by the retro compo.

Jedive - I've replied to all guidelines requests to date.

Rob - that's pretty much the sum of it, yes. The tutorials submitted so far range from the quite amazing to the "probably took 10 mins to knock together". At the moment I've asked for revisions to more than I've accepted, but that's the way it should be.

If someones writing quality/DBPro knowledge isn't up to scratch, don't submit a tutorial

Cheers,

I sent you an email Rich, although you probably just haven't got round to reading it yet. I've explained a lot in there.

Also my DBC knowledge is very good, and my DBPro knowledge is pretty good. Just the basics of both are very similar.

And my last reply was two separate comments, I just read the message that said you have to write DBS style after I'd typed the other comment. I just need to get what you want and what I'm doing more sorted, and then I think it will be fair .

Im not arguing or anything, I'm just eger to write it and get it all right.

well fair enough Rich i won't waste my time
make a wonder why you're emailing out the guidelines rather than having a dedicated page for it - just like if you have a list of tutorials you need should also have that online so you can tick them off as you recieve tutorials you need which you'll be using, else you'll just end up with a tonne of the same tutorials because no one will know which are the current ones without having to email you again to ask.

ending up being extra work and alot of wasted time for users who could've been doing other things.

"well fair enough Rich i won't waste my time"

Raven, I don't mean to be rude, but I haven't seen much work out of you atm. so I think Rich was right when he inferred that you won't be doing anything.

If you can't be bothered to email Rich for the guidelines and list (which contains pretty much everything, if you can think of a useful and suitable subject than that is OK), then as he said, are you likely to write a tutorial?

Raven - Everyone who has actually bothered to take the precious few minutes it requires to email me knows they get sent plenty of info to get started on. There isn't any duplication of effort happening and no-one reading this should be mislead into believing otherwise. There is no reason at all why I should post all the guidelines etc on the site as it's freely available for the taking if you ask.

really... no extra effort is wasted here?
so i suppose your on 24/7 like the DBS server is?
your not only responding to request for information emails but also the current tutorials being sent and reviewing them.

i don't understand why you don't just upload the writing rules and then just manage what your sent ... seems like alot of wasted bloody effort to have to answer everyone to asks for the rules when it takes no more than a min to upload and post a link in the forum.

there is no obligation to do anything here, and i was only offering to help out oki... just to get attitude

my best guess is that maybe Rich wanted to keep a record on all the peeps who wanted the stuff, and their respective contacts email addresses so that he can enquire from them later on. U know, like keeping a database on them, rather than counting 'how ppls downloaded the file / how many ppl read the stuff online' without any knowledge of whom are really interested to have a go.

I could be wrong though

"i don't understand why you don't just upload the writing rules and then just manage what your sent"

Because people will not bother to let me know what tutorials they are writing and when 4 copies of "making a skybox" turn up - who gets turned down? I have no way to track who I've sent the docs to and no control over who's got them. How it works now is just fine, no-one else has complained and this is the way its going to remain. I am not changing something that works well.

"i was only offering to help out oki... just to get attitude"

You receive only as much as you give (infact probably a lot less). You want to help and yet post claiming we have no list, nothing is organised or effective and we only want people to write tutorials we can't handle [sic] and refuse to send a simple email for the guidelines. Way to go for wanting me to even consider you!

Agreed.

Just wondering but if someone's tutorial had already been approved and if another person wrote a better one without knowing. What would happen? Because it seems as if that's more then likely to happen sometime in the future.

I'm looking forward to seeing the end results of everybodys tutorials when they're made available on the site. Rich, you've got top marks from me

Looks like the prospect of cash is going to everyone's head

Yes...it's motivated me to send in a document sample (I'm driven by the prospect of s/w myself). But like it's been said many times in this thread in different ways, won't we all benefit by the best of the best?

To be honest, I hope that each topic is oversubscribed so that the tutorials are worth waiting for. And time will not be wasted if everyone follows the guidelines...send in a sample!

My 2 page sample took me around 3 hours to write and illustrate. Yes, that's probably overkill. But I want to be part of this.

Mind you, I haven't heard back yet, hope it's not rejected!

Thanks in advance.

At the end of the day, If people are prepared to spend the time and effort in making a good tutorial, then that's great. The list of tutorials for writing can be obtained from Richard as he stated.

Hell it only takes a minute to send an email, and if you don't want to write a tutorial based on the list, fare enough. Not as if he's gonna come around and burn your house down or something <tsk>

I believe that box is for describing how Pro is different from the normal version of DarkBASIC. You shouldn't change the words and instead just write things like "This function is new to DarkBASIC Professional and so DarkBASIC doesn't have an equivalent, etc. etc."
