Hi,

just ran it by rick and he's ok with me showing these shots, its nothing new of course, but it shows it in the X10 engine and looks freaking brilliant!

dark silhouettes, shows the illumination mapping of the lights:

front shot...overall basically

walking into the camera...

i have altered many animations to something more 'stylish' for this character, including all of the strafe animations, he now sidesteps instead of hopping

X10 is truly awesome, and the screenshots and videos don't really say enough, on your first test game, it doesn't have that "fpsc feel"

just wait until you get to see the Fresnel water flowing at 80fps with bloom reflecting off it.

Thanks guys.

That would be due to backface culling. A lot of the time it isn't noticable but i'll probably fix it.

i am also creating another character whilst finishing the map variations, i wont show any w.i.p shots but think 'Quake + Alien'

Holy crap... 157738 polys! That has to be for the scene in totality though. How many polys was the character?

It's all the water mesh right?

Anyway-
That juggernaut looks awesome man! Now, kill me if this question is stupid, but will this be included defaultly in FPSCX10?

If so, your going on my next project's "Modellers" page.

Hmm... I wonder if it would be OK with RickV for you to put that small room together in a stand alone game for people with X10 cards & Vista to see for themselves?

Well see that's my problem. Everytime I go to instal it the instaler crashes after it extracts. I've got all the latest drivers and tried re-downloading but I still get the same thing.

I couldn't help but see this huge poly count at the bottom of your screens. Why is that so high for such a small area? maybe because of the water.

I've got a favour to ask, could you fill the whole grid with a floor segment so we can see how well X10 handles extirors?

Thanks in advance Jon

a lot of the time its very high, sometimes after changing some effect parameters there are some very minor slowdowns.

for instance, it goes to about 40 fps when using a certain sky-box, don't ask why, i don't really know

@ tyrano man

full canvas filled with floor segment and water included:

@ inspire

i really don't want to abuse my access to the beta so publicly, so i think it'd be best to wait for official videos. plus, the compression of a video would wash out the detail.

Yeah, i did hear something about Lee or someone saying the framerate was around 60 with the dirctX 10 cards. It seems pretty low for just an open room with a couple characters and water.

remember what i said about the skybox, i know it sounds stupid but its randomly true, perhaps i will re-post some shots to clarify this.

Quote: "Is the fps going to be capped? Or can you set the cap or what?"

it goes as high as possible, which is what any game should be doing.

im not entirely sure if its capped and whether you can set a limit, and neither do i want to disclose any details of such features.

X10 won't be capped, the entire engine is timer-based, meaning it runs the same speed no matter what machine you are on
