Okay. I'm a total newbie to this whole Programing thing. I know nothing. I creat games using RPG Maker XP where everything is easy and already made. I'd like to move on to way bigger things. I'd like to make a real rpg game. One with 3d really detailed Characters and and Movie Sequences. I'm REALLY good at making story lines and Creating Characters and all that, I just want to be able to make a game. I'm going to college for this and I think this would get me a huge head start so here's my reason for posting this. Is there any tutorial out there that I could go to? Anything would help. I'm not able to buy anything at the moment, cause I'm out of a job ( That wont be for long though )

just get DarkBasic Pro and start small. work your way through tutorials before trying to take on an RPG. programming isnt hard, it just takes time to learn

dragon i think you are gravely mistaken. pro has more features and currently has a lot more support in the forums and with updates. btw, when DarkBasic Directx10 comes, its more likely to be more like DBP than Classic... easier transition.

An RPG is a complex game type. Classic really isn't capable of a proper 3D RPG. It's interpreted and doesn't have nearly the support or plugins that Pro does. Pro has only recently become acceptable for an RPG with the newest plugins but is certainly no easy task.

I advise making smaller games that incorporate RPG elements - a 3D combat game, a game that uses an inventory system, etc. You've got to correctly divide the tasks in order to make it work.

The most important thing is asset management. It takes a lot of media to make it all work, and if it isn't handled in the correct way then it won't work.

Don't make an RPG so soon, start with things like pointless, brainless shooters where you shoot boxes. Things like that should get you used to programming a proper engine.

Hey Dave,

what college are you planning on going to for games? I'm starting this fall at the University of Advancing Tech.

If you know nothing about programming the only RPG you're going to make is a Really Poor Game, sorry but it's what everyone wants to do when they start.
Just because you can write a storyline doesn't mean you can make a game, to be a programmer you have to be interested in computers and amazed at what you can make them do.
If you are then buy DBPro and check out the tutorials
hope to hear from you soon
PS there is a separate board for game concepts and storylines etc, you might like to post something there.

I had RPG Maker... but it was really dubious. The information on the back of the box, like copyrights and stuff, looked so fake...

It was originally a japanesse program, they just dubbed it to english. It is made by enterbrain, who are a proffesional company, they are just situated in japan. Not the UK or US.

TATBS 1.8 is now fully functional. Brilodis is having its districts extracted to Battle City. Krina and Karin are twice the size. And you’ll see 5 times as many breeds of monsters... It’s Kalspher V3.

I know it's a proffessional company... I think it may just be the copy that I got. (Ebay)
I quote the box:
Quote: "The use of this software is subject to the End User License agreement. You must accept the End User License agreement before you can use this product. The world editor contained in this product is provided stictly for your personal use. Use of the world editor is subject to additional license restrictions contained inside the product and may not be commercially exploited. Use of Battle.net is subject to the acceptance of the Battle.net Terms of Use Agreement"

The bold and underlined are the things that make me wonder...
Edit: Oh oh oh! There's a MULTIPLAYER requirements section! Also, there's no copyrights or trademarks anywhere, and it apparently was assembled in germany.

I would go with DBPro. I had never programmed before when I got it, and I picked it up immediately.
