No lol
Quote: "Before this goes OTT, I suggest we deviate away from insult behaviour [Aka dissing the Americans USA people]"
Are we dissing anyone? I didn't think we were. I can't speak for anyone else, but personally I was just learning more about a culture that's surprisingly different from my own
Quote: "Gas is used as an abbreviation for gasoline. Most people i know say diesel separate from gas although i guess a lot has to do with context"
Now that I point out that gas is short for gasoline, I guess it's pretty similar to the way we use "fuel". That is, we'd say "fuel" where you'd say "gas". It basically means "a combustible liquid for cars"
Quote: ""i always get the mid grade""
I can't say that I've ever heard anyone in Australia call it "mid grade". We tend to refer directly to the octane rating (or probably more commonly call it "premium" or "unleaded"). I.e. "I always put 95 in my car" or "I'm gonna put premium in it". Sometimes we'd say "put 98-premium in it".
Quote: "but I'd say it is more common to set it and let it auto pump while you run into the store to buy something or go to the restroom"

WOW. Not to judge in the slightest, I'm just amazed because that is so totally different to how we do things in Australia! I think you'd probably be fined for leaving the bowser unattended whilst filling the tank! I REALLY want to visit the US someday...

ROFL

I don't even know what to say to that
Quote: "Just nipping the bud before it snowballs, I am sure you don't want this thread locked"
Good call, I probably would have become offensive if you hadn't said something!
Quote: "Sheesh...it is currently somewhere around $2.20 per litre here although going down..."
Whoa, I thought Australia was paying lots for fuel... I guess it's relative, though. Australia is a hugely wealthy nation. We complain about our fuel prices, but we also get much larger salaries on average than the majority of other countries. We also
expect to be wealthy, which is primarily why our government has been swinging wildly back and forth.
Labour comes in, people are happy but jobs are lost and the country goes into debt. Liberal comes in, free government payouts are dropped (=unhappy populace) but jobs are created in the thousands and the country stays on top of its debt. But people have short memories. When election comes again, they see labour will give them lots of money, so they vote labour in.... it's a never-ending cycle. We've never been better off than under the Howard government (i.e. liberal), but there's no way people will remember that... Huh, managed to get on a bit of a rant there. Apologies for that.
To lighten the mood again... from Wikipedia's article on gasoline:
EDIT: Drat, I've ended up with a sunburn again. We got a new pool liner for our above-ground pool for Christmas (last one got chewed by rats due to poorly thought-out storage) and I love being able to just decide to go swimming whenever I want to, but it's so freaking easy to get sunburn here... EVEN at 1040m above sea level!
