Ok, what you see here is a bloom shader working in FPSC.

We modified the v1.01 Sourcecode and implemented the bloom shader by Evolved (BTW: Thank you so much for these, Evolved!)

And something other has changed:
the maximum framerate!

i changed the Sync Rate to 35, so it ends in a framerate of 40
(this doesn't affect the gameplay much)

First, i thought it wouldn't work with v104 games, but it does
i just tested it a few times, so it needs a little bit more testing and bugsearching.

Actually it's buggy but it works nearly bug-free in this little Demo-Level:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=gZwQ8GN8AS0

If you want to play it, download it here:

http://www.helixsoftware.eu/dlarea/dl/bloomgame.rar

The Final version will be released the next weeks.
I'm in London next week... so i can't work on it
(hmmm... London...England... doesn't Butterfingers live in London? )

So, this 'example' shows, it isn't impossible to use such great effects like bloom, water or others
and the best: it seems to work with (already built) v104 games (using DarkLights )
Strange but... who cares if... ok... don't want do write anymore

just... enjoy it.

The bloom looks good, but the edges of the models look even more crappy then in the regular V1, why is this? you might want to add some Anti Aliasing to it.

it's nothing special

it's very small - just the effect is important

but thank you
(i thought about sending it to Batvink for the next newsletter... what do you think?)

i had to deactivate "Full Shader Effects"
Effects on Entities would work, but effects on segments would crash the program

@Prince Of Darkness:

(btw the Screens are scaled O.o)

and the "native" resolution of FPSC is 1024x768... the Screens are recorded on 1280x1024

yeah ^^
maybe check your eyes
to see they're working right

Will this work on games made with the latest patch or only 1.4 games?

It would be super to see more of the shaders working in fpsc, Im excited about this.

i have tested it with v1/1.01 and 1.04

maybe it works with 1.07, too
dunno, testing it soon

(btw. i'm always working with 104 - haven't installed the 107)

I have scaled FPSC images to see what it did, but it didnt turn out that jaggy. but hey, if you got Bloom to work, AA shouldn't be that hard either.(No idea if there is a free shader for it though)

Antialiasing doesn't use shaders

it's a thing of the graphics card and not the software

but nice idea *writing it down*

thanks

EDIT:

@ Pus: everything at a time - i'm not at home next week, so it will take some time

we planned other mods (and then combine them)
like
bloom shader
water shader
parallax mapping
toon shader
antialiasing and stuff like that

Yeah, right there, that looks brilliant!

If I were Lee i would be cowering in shame with your DX9 Modding and your shader writing prowess... or something like that...

I found that if you turned the light up, it get's washed out in bright areas, like in Splinter Cell with the NVG, it could be useful for that if you could work out how to do screen filters.

It looks nice from the screens.
But unfortunately i couldnt tested it.
Since it was missing some files.
I know its Vista's fault.
Would loved to test this one.

Cheers,

I hope toon shader gets done, that would rock. I would really like to see that working
parallax mapping as well, that would be awsome.

They had parallax mapping on that comercial fpsc game that was out recent, forget its name, looked pretty good.

Hopefully we will all get parallax mapping for fpsc.

The bloom in the screens above is a bit subtle, looks like its just working on really bright areas like the steps, Ill have to download the map and test it out fully before I can see what it can do, if anyone has some more shots please post them. Im quite excited about this its great to see dx9 get some attention

Some modder added a bloom effect to the unreal 2 engine, it was a cheat way of doing it with a texture in front of the camera and some other stuff, I cant remember how they did it but it worked.

http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/wiki/Bloom/Screenshots

Ive got the file some place on my HD I could find out how they did it If I searched for it.

okay thanks for all your comments

I'm thinking about modifing the Variables for the Brightness/Blur Width, maybe controllable with Keyboard/INI
my opinion: the bloom looks a little bit like those TV-Lines - maybe i can work that out

yes but i meant, test the mod in fpsc.
when you said "The Final version will be released the next weeks"
did you mean the actual fpsc-game.exe mod or the built level?

as I said before, DarkLights work with this mod
but the shader possibilities open the world of realtime dynamic shadows

I won't answer in this thread till saturday next week (german time)

if Dark Goblin supports you, please don't be rude to him, his english is... well... you can think of it

I really think you should improve the performance and lessen the lag and optimise fpsc first before you add any effects to it, I was getting an average of 20 fps in that demo. Because even if you get bloom working bug free it will be impractical for most people if it is slow.

Your about to get pwned.

fxgamer, could you please post you PC Specs?

i can't optimise things which are already optimised

my first step was the optimisation step, but the code is really... ok... really uber-hyper-sized

if the actual version of the FPSC laggs on your system, too, i would first think about the performance of your system

this demo runs at 40 FPS on my system, but it's like highend (Xeon, 2GB RAM, HD2900XT,...)

as i heard from testers, it runs smooth everywhere (-> German Forum)

-Intel Pentium 4 2000 MHz
-768mb ram
-ATI Radeon 9550(32 bit)
-Direct x version 9.0c may 2007

Its not high end but it doesn't suck, its about mid range so its about what half the people here have.

thats not mid-range.... thats low-end

sorry, but at this configuration you won't get more performance

"Bloom" is very shader intensive.
E.g. your graphics card has only 4 to 8 pixelshader.
New GPUs from nVidia or ATi have 128 (nVidia) or 320 shader units.

So i can't guarantee a good framerate

BTW. your CPU and RAM are under the 'recommended system requirements'

Quote: " * Pentium 4 2.66 Ghz (or equivalent)
* 1GB RAM"

and i'm not sure if your graphics card has more than 128 MB of memory...

Quote: "DirectX 9.0 compatible Video Card (3D Hardware Accelerated) with at least 128MB of memory"

It's a really great job!!! But. It looks really bad in some places, the placement of the effect is wierd and is shown long way from the object. Like the attached screen.

It looks more like mist..

thx

already recognised it

the bloom is based on a plane that moves with the player, the problem is the rotation... maybe i can work around it

but now, i really have to stop... in a few hours i will be on the way to London

I have a mid range PC, worked completly fine for me. I would call it an interesting effect rather than true bloom, If it was made really strong you could use it on a dream sequence or something like that.
I hope you get to parallax mapping, because boy do we need that one like anything. It would really bring up the engine a whole lot. Now if that was working we are really in the money, I think not having it really distracts from the engine, after that specularity, with these two it wouldnt look that much different in look from DX10.

Will it also be possible for Windows Vista?
Since its giving some errors...and such.

I think its Vista's fault....but maybe something...
(except i didnt changed anything)

Anyway would like to know if it was.

But its looking great!
Will surely improve the games,

You done a great job on this!

@Cheese Cake; Sorry. I just find it really humourous how you blame every single one of your computer maladies on Vista. Mind you, most of them are probably Vista's fualt.

I have got Vista, and so far I've not had too many problems. I do all my main FPSCing on XP though, it's less buggy, so that's probably why.

TGPEG,
Okey i aint mad or such....but i think its kind of lame
to put me in a corner without even knowing me a bit.
Hmmm...like...i blame everything on Vista?
Dont know from who you heard that from. But i am sure it wasnt me.

Also...i do all kinds of things on my computer, so maybe thats why
i have these bugs.
But!....Vista is coming with certain updates etc..so everything is
a little cool right now.

And, the game working right now....maybe Vista's fault.(dont know)

But like i said....i am not mad, angry...etc etc.
I was just telling my opinion...
You can think of me what you want to think.
But when you discribe me in a total different way.
I am just saying, first check that person out.
See if you are right. In this case...you are not.

So i dont want any "fights" or such.
Again, like i said i am not mad.
Just telling you my opinion.

Cheers,

I think maybe you've taken me the wrong way.

I think it's you being deliberately funny when you blame things on Vista. I think no less of you for doing that, in fact I find it amusing... that's a good thing There's no need for a fight, and my toasters fine now, I just needed to clean out the tray underneath that catches the breadcrums. I can think of another few posts of yours that I read where you blamed Vista for a problem. I have no problem with that. I have even chuckled to myself sometimes when you blame a bug on Vista.

Like I said, I was not labelling you or trying to drag your name through the mud, it was a compliment.

TGPEG.
Yeah its kind of "strange" to notice different emotions,
over the internet.
So sorry about that, also i know some posts of my concerning Vista.

And great to hear you worked out your problem with your toaster!
I am having some issues with my watch however....
I think its Vista's fault....but i am mostly late at work,
and school.... Maybe someone can help me with that?

Anyway...serious mode on again,
I didnt want to attack you, but its sometimes impossible
to notice for example: Anger, or Happy etc.

I think it has to do something with Vista?
Okey sorry going extremely oftopic over here.

Hope everything is cool between us?

Cheers,
