the only thing i found confussusing for the sword tutorial:

The bit where you have to make a square, select all vertex's and do the alt-w (i think) so it turns into one point, do i have to do that again and again to get the amount of points i need and then position them to look like a sword or something? thats the bit i was confussed at

I know some stuff in blender... Basic stuff i guess. My sword looks cooler.

I think I'll read these tutorials, people seem to like them and I really need to learn more about animation, exporting and blender in general.

Bad things have happened to the site. I'll try to get it working again but I can't make any promises as to when it'll be back up. I'm very very busy at the moment, and I'm not good at web stuff, so it could take quite a while.

Blender tutorials are postponed indefinitely.

Sorry guys. I really am.

All right, the website's back on line, thanks to a little help from a good friend of mine (thanks Matt). So, blender tutorials are back in action.

This week, I've decided (albeit reluctantly) to try something different. Deathead has kindly offered to write the occasional guide to help more advanced users learn how to use Blender. To get to these guides, simply go to my website and look under the sub section "Blender Guides".

I would really appreciate lots of feedback from the TGC community on this one and I'm sure Deathead would like to hear your opinions as well. You, the reader, have the power to make or break this unholy (<- for dramatic enhancement) alliance, so use it wisely.

So, until next week, I bid thee adieu.

Good work, can't wait for the textures one!

What is happening to them[the children] is the only thing they've known. The whole system of values is turned upside down: a child is appreciated and loved if it earns money by stealing

Thanks. I hope I didn't skim over materials too quickly. I'm just very busy at the moment.

Well, it's summer break, so I'm finally going to start going through these.

PS, You might want to look at some of the links you've posted previously, a lot of them give 404s.

Lucky. It's winter here. And it's rainy. And I have a cold.

Thanks for the heads up. I've fixed all the 404 errors on the first post. My friend must have changed something when he fixed the site that effected the links. They should all work now.

Nice work Neuro Fuzzy. Although for a game model, I would recommend decreasing the number of verts in the sword handle, and putting any extra detail into a normal map or similar.

Sorry I haven't made any Blender tutorials lately guys. I've only just finished the 1 month project that we were working on, and I haven't had any time to work on anything else. I did say that I'd keep doing them when I have the chance, and I still intend to stick to that statement. "When I have the chance" is not very definitive however; it could mean next week, it could mean next month. At the moment, this takes 3rd priority, with the first two things on my list being school work and Project Squared (which I also haven't had any time to work on).

Yeah, its been like that for a while.

Trouble is, I don't know anything about making a website, besides what I need to know to get articles up and running. I tried to get a mate of mine to fix it ages ago, but he seems to have forgotten (or he's busy, like the rest of us).

Lately though, I haven't had any time on my hands to do anything about it. I've been working 10 hour days (at least) on our final school project, trying to get this game we're working on up and running. I've been doing this for the past 8 weeks, and I really haven't had time for anything else.

If anyone is willing to fix the hackiness of my website (pro bono, I'm a student), my faith in the internet community would probably be restored enough to complete my tutorial series. As it stands however, I just don't have the time, nor the motivation to fix this problem.

I'm going to get a chorus of the world's smallest violins for saying this...

@hackingc 2000 Really, you would do this for me? I'll have to talk to my friend first, for ACCESS CODES and such, but I'm seriously thinking about your offer...

Err.... Your user name doesn't mean anything, does it?

Oh, and I realised just now that I was the victim of a random attack, not the target of some malicious plot. Thousands of people have had the same thing done to them, all with the same results as the Alpha Strain website.

Why would someone do this? For power, fame, control? What power is there to be gained in an anarchic environment such as the internet?

Sorry dude, if I have any backups of those tutorials (I'm not sure if I do), they're on my old computer, and I'm not going to be able to wade through all the crap on it to get them for another couple of weeks or so.

In the mean time, try the blender wiki, it's a really good place for help, and look for a tutorial by Greybeard on UV mapping. Also, I'd look up render baking, and how to use the export scripts built into blender... If you're a real beginner, just go with the wiki.

The wiki it is lol....

I'm getting good with rendering techniques (IMO), it's just stuff like animation and texturing that I'm stumped on......

Well, a few versions ago Blender implemented a completely new animation system involving bone modifiers... I didn't pay much attention to it, because at that stage, it didn't work properly with the .x exporter (I'm not even sure if it works now). So I've been using the old system of creating a separate skeleton object, making it the parent of a mesh, and creating vertex groups for each bone (if I get around to it, I'll explain this in a tutorial).

But I digress.

I wouldn't try exporting an animated object from blender if you're a newbie. If the process isn't done exactly right, the model that comes out of the pipeline will be junk... Even I manage to get it wrong half the time (there are so many things to remember!).

UV mapping is also tricky if you don't know what you're doing, but it's less tricky than animation. If you aren't familiar with at least half of the buttons on the Blender UI, I would wait a while before attempting to make a UV mapped object.

If you're really inexperienced with Blender, the best way to learn about it is to just play around and try new things. Make some crazy models, get yourself some tutorials and just have fun. The more you use Blender, the better you'll get at it. Cliche, I know, but true.

Yeah, I've been told that a lot.
I'm going to try and get this fixed, but I really need to learn how to design web pages myself. I can't keep running to some one else whenever I have a problem with my web site. I'll get a grounding in the languages I need to learn, and then wipe my website and start again.
