I operate on the basis of steam power. I even have a steam powered time machine!

... actually, no, I'm afraid I can't support that statement.

I run exclusively on potential energy. I'm very lazy, but potentially I could do well.

Raven runs entirely on hot-air.

lmao

Still, its a good idea, Rich, why don't we have a proper show case area, like on the Darkbasic.com site where people can show off Games, demos and screenshots that really show DBPro in a good light Not that the few demos there aren't cool, but there's a lot of potential to grow it

I bet after the new website is finished they will have an area for this. And if not, after reading this post they'll probebly add it in.

IceBird :

I have no nice pictures right now, but you can check out my matrix editor in the beta section. If you think it's nice I'll post it.

I'd like to see a (PHP-Based?) system where you can login and update your project with screenshots, little tid-bits or whatever so if someone's browsing and they see something that interests them that's still a WIP, they'd still be able to keep track of it. True, there are websites but most of the time people can't find a good host or don't think people will visit it or what-not and the forum's a little messy for constantly updating projects.

Edit: Should also mention that the main idea for this is for Work In Progress' rather then just showcasing completed projects.

lol... i'd say one big plain and the railcore texture from Q3
nice to see the Hexen 2D hands making an appearance in games again

Rich won't make that sort of gallery btw for the same reason we don't have attachments in the forum.
it takes up alot of space, bandwidth and would slow the overall speed of the forum down.
"but what does a gallery section have to do with the forum?" if i hear anyone say that puffy will turn up on your doorstep and stamp your forehead with the word "BAKA!"

though i wouldn't mind seeing that feature on other sites

I have been working on mercenaries 2 since september, However, pach 4 cme along and did it bidding and left it a buggy, lifeless mess. What a waste of 3,500+ lines of code.

Just a nice level

Looks quite cool

You need to set Light and Ambedient to 0 with the Set Object command, i.e.:

SET OBJECT Object Number, Wire, Transparent, Cull, Filter, 0, Fog, 0

That basically means it won't react to shading and so the angles won't be so visible.

Oh and Raven, I thought something like that would be the case.

I know we have shown these before... But these are some shots from Children of Sivara... Our main character still needs to be dressed in her texture and we shall post some shots in the anouncements section showing some interactivity and the user interface which is already in the game.... For those who dont know these are the scaled up versions of the tent used in the recent pathfinding post by Mr Flibble....
Enjoy

Yeah they are Dbp's hardware ones... we cheated tho and picked our angle on shots.... We had problems that it shadowed by polygon on the actual model so we got some sharp lines and angles...Thats refering to elephant. If you were refering to the tent model we baked the textures in 3ds Max5 first. Baking textures can help you fake your shadows and gives a nice effect for atmosphere purposes.

Well, I know it's old, I know it's DBClassic, and I know it's not as good-looking as most other DB games, but here's my screenies:

These are from my aging Sherman 2 game. Ahh, the memories. In fact, the DBDN interviewed me about this game about a year ago, did any of the subscribers see it?

The spiral you see in my screen, I designed completely by myself. It uses some plains for the vortex and a cylinder for the tube. It really looks kickass in realtime. And I made the images myself... except for the hands, which are filler until I take a picture of my own hands to doctor up for the game.

No problem. I'm not sure how you created your skybox but if you created 6 plains for each of the sides you need to slightly overlap them so the dotted lines aren't visible. The same goes for Jmansr who I see is having the same problem, a good skybox will look something like this:

That's a screenshot of a skybox I quickly mixed up in DBP just then, source code attatched. Incidentally my 6 images are named in the format: skybox(angle).png like so:
skybox0.png (North)
skybox90.png (East)
skybox180.png (South
skybox270.png (West)
skybox360.png (Sky)
skybox450.png (Ground)

Hence why I use a for loop multiplied by 90 to load the images, you can do whatever you wish though. The key piece of code that makes the plains overlap and hence hides the lines is:

SBw is the width of the skybox and adding 2 to the size of the plain makes it that little bit larger and so the plains overlap causing the edges of each plain to dissapear. In my screenshot the camera has actually been pointed at 2 corners where the edges meet and you can't even see it at all.

Finally, the sides of the skybox become visible when you're right up close to it or really far away, however, in a game this should never happen because the skybox will always be centered on the players position and you shouldn't be able to roam within it.

Hope you understand now how to get rid of those horrible lines that show up for the edges. Oh yeah, the skybox images were created by yours truly

Now that is a good skybox, Exeat! Unless you spend ten minutes looking for them (like I just have), you'd never see the seams.
