Hmmm...I did have that problem ages ago, and I don't remember how I fixed it. Blender has very modest system requirements, so I can't imagine that being an issue. I suggest just doing the usual re-installing of drivers etc, that might fix it.
After reading a few forum posts, it may actually be a hardware problem. Do you run an ATI card? Blender has had problems in the past with them, but there are a few suggested fixes.

Also, I do remember what was making it crash. I had one of those crappy DVD player programs that you get with a new DVD drive, and it sat in the background, not doing much. By getting rid of that from the system processes, I could use blender fine. It was a strange one, and I have heard reports that Quicktime does the same thing on occasions. I suggest trying to run blender after going through your system processes and getting rid of anything that could be using your video card.
