Ok im not a noob here... I've been programming for almost 8 years (started with Q BASIC ) and 3D modeling/texturing is something I would REALLY REALLY love to get into... Ive picked it up probably 4-5 times over the last years and downloaded at least a dozen programs that promise the ability to make amazing things.

No matter what though I cant figure out how to make a complex shape (i.e. an apple, a gun etc) with nothing but boxes, spheres, planes, and "doughnuts".

Recently I've been working with AC3D but EVERYTHING I even attempt to make looks very blocky and cheesy like it was built out of childrens blocks. I hear about people that can make an FPS gun in an hour or two. How do I do that??

The only thing I came close to being ok at was Google Sketchup but that is more of a architecture thing and no offense but the texturing seems to suck (unless i was doing something wrong) but sketchup exports badly so even if I make something awesome it always messes up when I try to export to a decent/usable format.

I'm so frustrated what should I do??

Well most programs can make complex shapes, it just takes time and experience

Heres a link to a gun scn in TrueSpace 7.6 (which is free)
You could study or alter it for learning purposes.

I have been in the same situation, Just pick up a program i'd recommend 'milkshape 3d' for beginners. Then get use to the UI, Then start modeling small stuff then go big later on. I did that and now im starting to model characters pretty descent.
