" Isn't it ironic, that a united world would cause division, that world peace would cause war."
- Un-named journalist

This is a quote from my games backstory, a quote the summary of the entire game.Backstory is very important to me.It represents everything you didn't get from the game itself.Which is why have decided to let gamers and developers alike read most of my story, and tell me what you like, what you don't like, and what your opinion of how it should be changed. Here it is...

After 3 years of hard work, the United Nation was formed in 2017.The UN was comprised of America,Africa,Europe,Australia, amd most of Asia.Countries/States were disposed of, and in their place was districts (ex. Washington District, French District)
Each district is controlled by the District Authority, which reports to the the Authority of their continent (ex. American Authority, African Authority)
However not all of the world joined this new world goverment.Russia compared it to the tyranical kingdoms of the dark age, and refused to join. It, and several surrounding countries, formed the Russian Alliance. It completly cut off foreign trade and cruched any chance of leaving the country .Lets move forward to January 7, 2031.Russia has depleted all of it's natural resources. While it's long dormant economy completly collapses, basic necessities disapear from stores and markets in hours. In a month, small towns and cities begin to fall apart, while places like Moscow live in luxury, getting their resources from the massive warehouses filled with supplies.Russia becomes two different worlds, one for the rich, the other for anyone below.
But Russia's goverment is not pleased.Their country is living off borowed time. So, to avoid their imminent destruction, they go to war with their allies, the other countries in the Russian Alliance. The rest of the RA calls for help, but the UN refuses to send people to fight and die for those who hate them.Meanwhile, a group of rebels in Russia start a guerilla war against the Russian Goverment who has exsressed their complete lack of care for their own citizens, and is now pouring all their money into the military....

Part 2 will be posted tomorow.....

Sounds cool to me! just to get a little more feel for it what kind of game will this be? First person, RTS, RPG? that helps when deciding a story a lot.

Not a big deal but There is already a united nations hahaha i don't think it's a big deal just pointing it out.

My opinion of your story is it should be converted into code, and then upload a screenshot of the results.

This shouldn't be in WIP yet. Maybe put in Geek Culture...

Sorry, this isn't ready for the WIP board. You need to have screenshots, code, etc done. It might sound unfair, but there's a godzillion ideas for games, but very few actually have playable demos or screenshots to show actual work that's been done.

Everything I needed to know about trigonometry, I learned by becoming a game programmer.

Hey, it sounds very good, very intense!
I think a suspenseful story and atmosphere is very underestimated in games today.
I would recommend telling the story with pictures to underline it.

Sounds interesting, but doesn't the UN already exist?? You need a new name, I think. And yes, this should be moved to Game design and theory.

The "United Nations" exist, not the "United Nation" . Even considering that, I would advice you to make some smaller or larger modification of the name, so no one will get it wrong.

Anyway, sounds pretty interesting.

Let me guess, using FPSC X10? Just another reason why it doesn't belong here.

First work on the actual game, then post it here:

I'm surprised the thread hasn't been locked or moved yet.

sure it makes sense, Japan invaded China because they were running out of resources.

China wasn't allied to Japan, so the analogy doesn't hold. It can't possibly make sense for Russia in your scenario to invade its allies to get resources - if they're allies they should be able to work out a peaceful deal for aid, which would be far more efficient. Moreover, if Russia has somehow managed to run out of resources, despite occupying a significant portion of two continents, its smaller allies must have run out resources long before, so it's hard to see what it will gain by invading them.

But the initial idea of a world government being created as soon as 2017, with all countries other than Russia and its unnamed allies joining, is pretty unconvincing to start with. How did this happen after only three years of work? How were the fierce nationalist elements in every country overcome? Most people in Britain don't want to join the Euro, let alone give up their sovereignty to an international body. Half the countries in Africa can't even unite within their own countries: how on earth did they all unite into a single "African Authority" and join with all the other countries?

Thought we were letting this one drop quietly off the bottom of the WIP board!

Mind, I'm not helping by also posting on it but its gone totally off the topic it was originally supposed to be on.

It's nice to have an intricate and involving back story but it really isn't showing us anything 'In Progress' from a programming, graphics, texture or audio point of view.

As to comments on its suitability for a game back story it makes me think of a Command and Conquer style RTS with emphasis on combat and resource management. FPS style games generally don't need a lot of wordy narrative (unless you're producing a novella to go along with it! ) and too much text in FPS games tends to detract from the flow of action.
